Zhou Shen started early with singing, joined the school choir and won the first place repeatedly in choir competitions. But when he hit puberty his voice didn't significantly change. Since he still sounded like a girl in middle school he was ridiculed by his classmates and they were calling him names. Because of the discrimination he experienced, he became more and more silent. He didn't sing on stage for three years in junior high school. Fortunately he regained confidence and was able to make his uniqueness his strength. He studied Bel Canto at the Ukrainian Conservatory of Music and today he is one of the most popular singers in China. Zhou Shen plays the piano, guitar and clarinet. He can speak five foreign languages: English, Ukrainian, Russian, Italian and Polish (his French is pretty decent too) and he sings in even more languages. I love his angelic voice. For more wonderful performances I recommend his duets with Sa Dingding (a Chinese singer and songwriter) "Upwards to the moon" and "Flower walking freely", but you can't go wrong with any of his performances. He sings even higher in those duets. For a great spooky performance I suggest "The Song of Heaven Island". "Zhou" is pronounced like "Joe" with the J sounding a bit sharper like the "Ch" in Charlie. BTW, Charlie is Zhou Shen's Western name.

I think 2018 or 2016, on Super Vocal, a singing reality show. He has worked super hard and consistently since then, and now is an incredibly popular singer in China. It seems he performs on a live stage every two or three days, so there is a constant stream of new material on TH-cam. I personally loved when he wasn't as self-assured and professionally polished as he is now, but he still shows some moments of incredible vulnerability, like the Thank You show he did for his 9 yrs of being on stage, in Beijing this late summer, for his fans (called Sheng Mi, or Raw Rice... haha, strange eh). It was very personal, and he choked up in tears at a few points. He touches all kinds of music from pop to rap to musicals, Japanese to Russian, classical bel canto, lots of OST for movies, and especially makes himself beloved in China by incorporating traditional kinds of singing, like Peking Opera, different dialects etc. In any case, I discovered him by accident, on the show Singer 2020 (which has song after fantastic song from the participants), back in May, and am still stuck on him! I hope you get lots of recommendations to react to and you can explore his amazing voice. BTW, he is also just a super sweet person, with a relaxed, joking and open personality. Always polite, always open to interacting with fans, never arrogant.

Li Wei went on and Zhou Shen was voted out. Zhou Shen sang Memory on Super Vocal” (《声入人心》) Ep. 7 on Dec. 14, 2018. This was after he'd become known for Big Fish, but was still super shy and lacking in self-confidence.

He is able to adapt and sing all kinds of songs and with all kinds of singers. He is mainly self taught and during this competition, he did not have much confidence competing against classically trained singers.
