- Today we’re going to look at some walking bass, specifically a bass line over the popular jazz chord progression Sweet Georgia Brown.
Walking bass instruction usually focuses on the improvisation side of playing. But it's also important to learn pre-written lines.
This walking bass line is taken from the new book release "Walk That Bass" from Talkingbass which features 30 pre composed walking lines over popular tunes for you to learn and study.
The book also features a complete section devoted to functional harmony, scales, chord tones and vocabulary so you’ll have lots of theory knowledge to add to your walking bass practice.
Today's video is taken from the accompanying video course in which I take you through the learning of a bass line moving through multiple fretboard positions.

Super clear and useful as is Mark's unmistakeable style!
Always very helpful. Thanks so much for all of your easy to follow lessons 😊
Practice indeed>> for the next week with this.
Thanks for sharing Mark 🎶🎵🎸
Great explanations throughout!!
Still the best walking bass teacher out there . . . .
Test yourself by playing the root notes for each chord in the progression first, then move to the octave of each root .
Thank you 🙏🏻
Good walking line in Moondance by Van Morrison
VERY NICE VIDEO MARK
Nice, Very Nice.
By far you are the best Mark, thanks!
At 2:18, Mark plays something slightly different than what's showing on the tab (but not the notation). Both ways sound good. Pick it off and learn both of the lines.
Yes, the line is written wrong. I’ve amended on the tab/notation over at the website
Are you only plucking with your index finger on the down beats?
Starting at 3:48 you describe coming down from F in Mixolydian and hitting a flat 6 and the tab has it coming down on the G string with 10-9-8-7. Should this be 10-8-7-6? (This gives you an idea how much I like your stuff and how closely I follow you're every move).
Yes. There’s a mistake in the on screen music. I’ve rectified it on the website.
@@talkingbasslessons where can we down load the book of the walking bass exercises..
Hi mark. What are the 30 popular tunes you are referencing in the course? Thanks
