- In this video, I talk about the basics of sound design and how to make drums sounds from scratch in FL Studio. I use a lot of third party synths and plugins so this can be done in other DAWS. We go over how to make 5 basic sounds; 808s, kick, claps, hats, and snares for hip-hop/trap music. Let me know if you want to see a more advanced tutorial in the future!

been trying to make my own drums and get into sound design more and i kept coming across 'simple' sound design tutorials but they were always so complicated and no one could have broken it down any simpler than you simon thank you so much. best producer
Great tutorial as always. I don't know why I hadn't thought too much about what a kick, clap, hi-hat, snare etc are in terms of the sound itself and how they can be created given all of the things I've tried to learn about. I'm sure I have explored how they look on a spectrogram etc, but for some reason I haven't explored too much in terms of how they can be created from scratch, so this was a great idea for a video which will make me research and learn even more about this topic, so I thank you not only for the video, but also for the sort of "aha" moment in terms of me realizing and wanting to learn even more about sound and sound design. Great work Simon :)

Patcher is a great tool for more complicated sound design. It helps keep your projects very organized and it allows you to save complicated multilayered presets.

I thought most producers just take drum shots that already exist and reconstruct them, but Simon proved me now that sound design to create sounds from scratch isn't really that hard as I thought. Awesome tutorial as always, thanks Sensei Servida 👊🏼💥

Definitely the best drums sound design video I've seen. Many of the others just show blending other peoples' samples to make your own samples and don't even remotely explain how to do any of this. Good shit man!

It's awesome how much I have learned from Simon, even tho I'm a Logic Pro user, I still implement his technique into my DAW. 🙌🏼
Damn, think by far this was the most down to sound design lesson I've witnessed everything was a lot simpler versus most producers anad engineers being way too "techy" causing so much confusion for most people including myself I enjoy designing my own sounds but of course I didn't really know the bare fundamentals i would just mess with stuff until I got what I was looking for 7 hours later.... and thats just one sound done...lmao smdh.... anyways dope video again Simon, also congrats on the studio addition to your journey looking forward to more vids brother.

Amazing techniques man! Just a tip you might like to try, something I’ve personally found super helpful is recording sounds on the iPhone or any mic and dropping them in the serum noise folder, and then designing drums from that (: serum really is the best drum designer though 👌👌
