I agree, Pauls's mindset is clearly to put out a video on a daily basis if possible....which equals more views and more $$. Paul is TH-cam crazy, and I think his life primarily revolves around being at home in front of his camera.

Couldn't agree more ! I saw the back stabbing and bitchiness for myself in Bantayan Island 12 years ago. Most of the expats from that period all hung out at an expats bar and pretty much drank themselves to death. I decided after witnessing all the craziness to move to a quiet part of Cebu and bought a plot away from everything. No noise, no late night partying nearby. Decent Filipino families who help each other out and have made my wife and myself feel welcome and treat us as part of the local community. Hope you get things sorted soon!

The drinking expats seems to be universal...usually very angry about everything. Personally, I don't even bother with bars...it just attracts some really poor character people

I got lucky by meeting my Filipina wife through a mutual friend. She is from a very small barangay where half the people are her cousins and the other half are married to her cousins.
We built our house - which - only has one electrical outlet in the kitchen and our three bedrooms are 8 ft. by 10 ft
The dogs don't bark too often at night and I rarely hear the roosters at 4 am.

It's not just the Philippines. Countries where older single men go as expats all have the same problem - many of those guys "have issues" as people like to say. Deep-seated issues. I've lived in a few different countries, and I'm sorry to say, many of these guys are bitter about how they think life has treated them, they believe they have wisdom, which they want to dispense freely, but they're dumb asses, they have anger issues, they're flakes, squirrels, alcoholics, nut jobs, conspiracy theorists, they want sex but many of them don't really like women, they just like having sex with women, they're paranoid, they treat the locals like crap, and on and on and on. Not all, not all, don't come at me with your pitchforks, some of the best guys I ever met I met overseas as a fellow expat. But, it gives me no pleasure to say this, even if it is the truth - many of these guys are just stone-cold losers, and not just in one way, either - multiple ways. You've really got to choose your expat friends carefully, because if you don't, some loser's problems become your problems, just by proximity/absorption.

@@keithd1219 I agree not the best environment they would rather sit in a bar all day and bitch about life then rather getting of their duff and make their life better. These are the kind of people that come there and ruin it for all the good people that want to embrace the Filipino people and enjoy living in a different environment. This is same here In the States you get these old crocks join a club like elks or moose and sit in the bar all day and complain about all wrong with the club .but God help them if they would volunteer or add to help with a suggestion on what could make the club better. Unfortunately these old complainers will never be happy. Guess only good thing is they all congreat in one location so they don't spread their complaints and lack of motivation to everyone else

Listening to you Paul, living where you are in the Philipines sounds good, but Thailand in general covering most of the mentioned problems is by far better. The only hick up at the moment is the English aspect. Then again entering the Malls, it has never been a problem for me at all or any other place, so to speak. I will never live in the city or even built up areas, farm is the best. No noise, no dogs barking, people partying till who knows when, total piece and quite, so enjoyable, freedom at its best, you cannot beat it. Living in Thailand for over twelve years with no problems at all. Farm people are the best, couldn't care a hoot about anything, leaving you to do what you want without interference. It is just great.

If you want to know what a hospital visit in Thailand is like here it is: I had a kidney stone attack last night (Thursday). I went to the emergency room and was seen immediately. The doctor spoke English. Dr., drugs, and tests. $135. Today I saw a urologist. The customer service lady spoke English, the urologist spoke fluent English, the technicians spoke English. They sent me up for a CAT scan ($391). The cost for the nurses and urologist - $37. The CAT scan machine looked new to me (at least not old). The hospital itself is beautiful. The whole afternoon visit to the urologist and the CAT scan took 2 hours.

I find that the local dogs constantly barking are very annoying. And I found a fix for it. I go on TH-cam with my laptop & look for posts of dogs, huskies & wolves howling, plug the audio output into my 50-watt battery-powered guitar amplifier & just crank er up to very loud. The results are both very amusing & satisfying. First, the dogs join in, then after about 10-15 minutes the dogs fall silent & scatter. Then about 20-30 minutes later they very slowly start to return but remain very quiet. The hilarious part is watching these dogs slowly slink back & forth on the other side of the fence & trying to peer into our compound all the while they remain pretty quiet.

Love your realistic, down to earth content. Funny how most expat stories repeat, even after decades around all sorts of countries. I did the expat thing at the age of 24, moved to Haiti, stayed two years, and came back to Austria with a haitian girlfriend, who became my wife for 24 years. - Now I have to laugh at so many expat stories, as I have known similiar ones for so long. I met my Cambodian wife #2 here in Austria, and we bought a semi-detached house near Phnom Penh, but still live in Austria. You are right, a car will soon turn into a hassle and I wonder if you both will not soon get tired of your 'country hopping', which sure sounds like a great idea, but most likely's goint to bog you down with all kinds of details bcoming hassles. The best of luck to both of you, maybe we can swap stories in person some time in the future... 😄

At 6 months....I began feeling outside the circle instead of inside, amongst the people. Could have been because of it being covid times...Could have been the "dirty farang" thing...dunno... But having a vacation from the PH and a mind reset...(reboot) was truly essential. I highly recommend it for every expat. Would I go back to Thailand again....for sure...but only about 90 days max, next time.

A no-vax friend of mine is "stuck in Phuket" waiting to get back into the Philippines, the first thing he noticed is how quiet it is where he is living here, no cheekins' no kalaokay no dawgs barking, he says it sounds like terminal Bliss!

I thought those places you showed a couple months back for your friend were amazing and reasonably priced for what you get. 3br, clean secure subdv., pool, nice amenities, etc. We moved to a nice bungalow in Cebu after the typhoon wrecked our seaside place. We bailed 12 hours before it hit when I looked at the map and the eye was projected to pass right over our house, which it did. Spent a month in a hotel that had a generator and found another place in the interim. When I moved to the new place, the old neighborhood still had down wires, no water, no power.

What Paul saying is all about planning, because your decision is the result of a good plan. What i like Paul said "consider the weather and water". Do not fight the chickens and dogs or pigs because it is everywhere in the Philippines. Now remember this (laughs), rooster is our alarm clock, dog is our security and pigs is our investment. One thing for sure, Paul is not like John cause Paul, he plan it very well for whatever he made a decision and i am gonna be like him plan and plan before i decide. Carry on Paul and BTW advance happy birthday to Kabayan Mae.

Use to live behind the local nightly party spot. I was renting in a private community, the other side of the wall was the squatter area. All night till morning the obscenely loud bump bump bump so called music. It literally shook the walls, complaining is as you know not an option. Noise canceling headset saved my sanity, lesson learned. I now am content with a few roosters and dogs interrupting the quiet in a new place.

If they stay in the philippine, the relationship will stay intact.

I know you are mountain guys , so after Phuket you must visit North Thailand and Chiang Mai area is perfect to have a home base to explore around. Fantastic riding with a scooter. Good medical services, good airport, (a ticket Phuket to Chiang Mai on Air Asia about 50 USD.) train station, bus station to many destination and local and Foreign restaurants, large shopping center, many markets and near border of Laos( 4h30 m by road) and Myanmar( not open at the moment). And I forgot, way cheaper than Phuket that have many great beaches and a lot of tourists from Europe . Have a good trip and I hope May can get her passport.

Oh, yes - if you cannot find the rental listings and you only rely on signage ... it would be challenging trying to find a place, frankly I do not know how you do it.
Even more so if you have some requirements and, of course, the higher up the mountain you the more brown outs & sketchy internet you might get(?)
Come on Baby Mae, get that passport so you guys can start traveling. As always it is so nice to watch you both. Have a great day!

Hi, Paul & Mae, I enjoyed your video. It's not until you have lived somewhere for a while do you get to find out if it is really the place for you. I agree short term monthly is the way forward. It allows you to get out after a short time if needed.
I love the beach but the living temperature up in the mountains is far cooler and far enough away from the coast not to be as affected by storms. I have a fear of Tsunamis having seen the devastation they can cause so up in the mountains I would feel cooler and safer. Happy Birthday Mae, you look amazing for 37 you could easily take ten years of that as you look in your twenties.
Take care GOD Bless you and yours. M

Valencia is on the slopes of a dormant volcano these are known to go off and not so dormant the Valencia one as power is generated from the steam in the mountain I often look at the rocks all the way down at San Miguel Bacong that have been blown out of Valencias volcano and realize even here I must get away if any rumbles are heard but bear in mind last time it erupted was 150000 years ago but I remember St Helens in the States and what happened and the explosions at Angeles City areas not so long ago and the volcano at. Lake Taal on Luzon also so Valencia not for me.
