These guys have grown up. Maybe some of the selections on the new album are a little overproduced, but their hearts are still there. The poetry is still there. I love this album. You have to live a little to have anything significant to say.
Got to admit, As a Musician and a gainful woodworker, The Avett Brothers are quickly becoming one of my favorites. I often have them on the over head in my shop. Add Martin guitars,Beards, The south, and excellent songs, that... fellow youtubers... is the winning-est combination I can think of... I wonder if they'd like to sit down in my shop with me,some bourbon, couple guitars and some good conversation?...
"If i live the life im given, I wont be scared to die" what a powerful lyric. this is beautiful what a great performance... honestly.. live>recorded. these guys are a must see live ... im a 4 hoping to make it 400!!!!!
avett brothers ! how can ? this is one of the best songs i ever heard ! congratulations ! this song compained me within 8 hours on the flight from seattle to amsterdam, no joke ! looking back to the sunset trough a frozen window up in 36.000 feet. thank you.
Let "the carpenter" settle in before you judge it. It is "slick" sounding but I can never really review an album until I have let it soak in. I trust these guys, and while not all that glitters is gold.. some of it is.
One of my favorites from the new album (along with Down With The Shine). Enjoying the new album very much, but also looking forward to the inevitable LIVE version which is where I think the Avetts really shine.
they were just in oxford not to long ago.. maybe a few months ago.. That's twice they've been to oxford.. also just got done playing memphis in october!! gotta watch out for em!!!
You guys are such an improtant edition to all the popcountry music out there. We need people like you who put rock/folk/country on the map :) :) Love you
You guys are such an important edition to all the popcountry music artists that are out there right now.. We need people like you who put rock/folk/country on the map :) :) Love you
I feel that I, love & you was overproduced too and worst. Even though the Carpenter does have the overproduction sound I like it better. But live, they bring it back to their heart like we love. And it is wonderful that they let people record there shows so we have the opportunity to have both!
couldnt agree more! Loved The Carpenter. My only issue was the piano ending on this song. I was really hoping for that awesome guitar ending like I heard in videos on youtube.
OK, First....The Avetts are the BEST (#1) Music today has to offer!!! Thenn, c'mon guys.. City and Colour, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero's, The Head and the Heart. Im not hip to the Civil Wars, but ill definitely check em out... Since they're up there with the Avetts lol
No, trust me, it's the older D35 he has. He only has 2 Martins including his signature D35. He also has an ancient Gibby LG1 which I learned on & a custom made guitar made for him by Jordan McConnell, guitarist for the Canadian band The Duhks. I have 3 Martins & live about 50 miles from the factory so pretty much have them all memorized by now! LOL!
Alright someone help me out cause for some reason I can't figure this out. In tabs I found online it shows them going from a F major chord to an Fm chord during the first line of the chorus, and while that sounds right it doesn't like that are playing the standard barred version. Anyone know what chord it is?
IMO, this is just after TAB were at their absolute best. They were still damn good though and had every opportunity to keep it going. They were just coming off of I&L&U, and they were working from a catalog mainly comprised of this album (The Carpenter), the aforementioned I&L&U, Mignonette, Four Thieves and Emotionalism.. All incredible, genius level albums. Since then, other than a few bright spots on True Sadness it has been a sad, slow slog into mediocrity with the best word I can think of to describe how I feel about TAB is "gentrified" .... in every bad sense of the word.. When I saw them at Boston's House of Blues in 2009 I walked out thinking they might be the best active band in the world.. Just the core 4 members and it was a cacophony of energy and jubilation I had only ever seen at Grateful Dead shows....with every year that has passed and every show I have seen and every new album with Rick Rubin they have gotten further and further away from that amazing unique powerhouse they once were. Sanitized might be an even better word to describe them. It really has made me so sad to watch it happen because my wife and I were such huge fans and so excited for the future of TAB. I'm 50 and have never been more disappointed by a band. Endless potential pissed into the wind. I have nothing personal and don't even dislike Rick Rubin but (imo) he has clearly ruined TAB. Just look at their albums before and after he came into the picture... No comparison..
The carpenter is a huge let down. This is coming from a fan whose followed them since the beginning. There are some gems on the album (This one, Down with the shine and winter in your heart) but there are some overproduced songs that lose the 'avett' feel that fans have grown to love over the years. It feels as if Rick Rubin has made them the new Kings of Leon. Before people flame me, listen to live versions of Down with the Shine and this song, then listen to the album versions. Overproduced

Saw them live this week..... and I thought I was a fan before. Seriously do yourself a favor and see these guys live. It's magical.
Cant wait for September 11. The Carpenter is going to be the most beautiful album of The Avett Brothers
im pretty sure that i have hit replay 1000 times today.......
"If i live the life im given, I wont be scared to die" what a powerful lyric. this is beautiful what a great performance... honestly.. live>recorded. these guys are a must see live ... im a 4 hoping to make it 400!!!!!

looking back to the sunset trough a frozen window up in 36.000 feet. thank you.
These boys are the real deal and enjoy their passion.
Let "the carpenter" settle in before you judge it. It is "slick" sounding but I can never really review an album until I have let it soak in. I trust these guys, and while not all that glitters is gold.. some of it is.
I can hardly type for the tears in my eyes... TAB rips my damned old heart right out EVERY single time...
I've run out of ways to say how much I love their music and talent.
Definitely no disappointment on my end. These guys are musical geniuses. Love the album guys. The WHOLE album
I'm hooked. Love that bridge!
All the best for a well deserved Grammy for Carpenter.
These guys and Justin Townes Earle are by far the best two acts of the AMA's
True passion in thier lyrics. I love the harmony.
Yes, as a matter of fact, I AM obsessed.
Mountain music baby! The Appalachians,a Methodist grandaddy, raised on Waylon and Tom T Hall-we grow the best tunes in the world.
My favorite music video this decade.
One of my favorites from the new album (along with Down With The Shine). Enjoying the new album very much, but also looking forward to the inevitable LIVE version which is where I think the Avetts really shine.

Beautiful.
No need to read this, the greatness is above!
Gorgeous! I am eagerly awaiting the new album.
LOVE this song! Cant wait til the concert !
encore une belle balade des frères AVETTI, merci!
Come to Memphis, Oxford, little rock? Just some place I could get to, your music haunts me, so real!
I feel that I, love & you was overproduced too and worst. Even though the Carpenter does have the overproduction sound I like it better. But live, they bring it back to their heart like we love. And it is wonderful that they let people record there shows so we have the opportunity to have both!
It's not my favorite album of theirs but its definitely one of favorite songs of theirs.
OUTSTANDING
couldnt agree more! Loved The Carpenter. My only issue was the piano ending on this song. I was really hoping for that awesome guitar ending like I heard in videos on youtube.

Absolutely love this song! Anyone noticed how shiny Scott's hair is? :p
LOVE IT MY FAV SONG
@brianbf1986, I think this was during the time that Bob took a break to take care of his daughter.
Awesome...
The guitar ending is so much better then the piano ending they used on the album!
"Come on, Seth!" haha nice
Is this real life? Sobbing in my room, no big deal.
@Minxsie thanks! we will posting more and more videos soon! stay tuned!
I did this song in my camp in Lake Luzerne, New York
Just in a different shape

I searched for this band because of Colleen Hoover's Slammed. Man, they're good
His daughter is very sick so he's been with her a lot this year instead of the band
:O Where's Bob?
How about making that a top three with the Civil Wars?
is this a new song?
@iOgilviei Bob is with his daughter, who is ill.
It's a Martin D35...
It is an Fm chords :)
Bob's daughter is sick, so he didn't tour for a while. Search the internet for info.
no.... the martin D35 is different than this one. he usually plays a D35 though but this ones different
Americana folk/rock
The sound of Seth's guitar in this video almost ruins the performance for me, what was that sound guy thinking?
What kind of guitar is Seth playing??
seth looks completely different without his beard!
i'm listening to an americana shuffle, and for some reason they killed the volume on this one. damn shame.
Seth 1:04 :)))
@wrichardwilson Where the fuck is Bob?
He does look like Ashton Kutcher with beard
Sorry posted on my husbands account, still meant what I said.
No worries. Hope y’all are well
Nah, Ashton Kutcher looks like him.
2 people in the world are delusional.
@Doogle81 Aw man that's awful.
