    Rick Beato's rants make for great entertainment on TH-cam! 😄 It's great to have you also speaking out on this issue Brent 👍
    It's so baffling to me, the fact that TH-cam music educators who are actually driving exposure to (often obscure) copyright material
    are not much more greatly appreciated by these dreaded 'blockers' !?

      It’s an interesting problem that deserves more attention!

    I would love to do more videos on my channel with melodies, but because of issues like this I mostly stick to concepts and chords... which is sad because in private lessons playing the melody is a huge part of teaching a tune :(

    • @Learnjazzstandards

      Agreed the melody is the toughest one to not use for teaching. Can get away with playing it yourself but not anything the bots will catch

    ABSOLUTELY!

    Great points. As you pointed out, I’ve been hearing this from a number of TH-camrs. TH-cam’s main reason for doing this is to protect themselves from the copyright holders, because they are ultimately the ones who are really making money from it. The bots used to find copyrighted material in videos should to be refined, and there needs to be a realistic appeals process. TH-cam needs to get their act together on this, or they are going to lose viewers. A large petition might help.

    Shall we all petition and perhaps organise An Embargo on TH-cam ?

    Your work is excellent and these claims only demotivate creators. The music which they intend to protect becomes known through these educational videos. You made a good point there.

    Much sympathy. This is one of those cases where the few that are actually just trying to steal music ruin it for the rest of us. Greatly appreciate the content you put out.

    youtube is bought by the large corporate labels, i hope they can change the system and treat educators like yourself fairly.

    Truly unfair. This should be clarified by TH-cam

    I teach copyrighted music to my students all of the time, and I have a school owner that is incredibly paranoid of things like that. So it can be stressful to do something so essential for the teaching of music in that context.

    Ok copyright holders, you’ve been served. Time to get your heads out of the ground !! You’re only screwing yourselves with these blocking efforts !! 👨🏻

    Egregious copyright claims is one reason some music educators are going up on Nebula. Unfortunately you are not alone.

    How was this a rant? This is one of the most constructed complaints I’ve seen in a while 😅

    I think copyright is on the melody itself. No matter how slow or fast. As long as the melody is the same, not altered, then the copyright laws apply.

    And the game is the TH-cam creators do not have the money to fight TH-cam in the courts.

    • @Learnjazzstandards

      To be clear TH-cam is just the vessel here, it’s the rights holders it would be a legal fight with

    BRAVO!!! 🙋🏽‍♂👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Hey brother, Im actually just creating a channel now to teach metal licks, riffs, and solos. Do you think I could post up solos (with instruction on how to play them properly) if I just OPT OUT of monetization? I mean, how do guys like GuitarLessons365 and Marty Music get away with it? Sometimes they play the whole solo with backing tracks! There must be a way to do this!
    Would I be smart to start with these song snippits (all self produced of course) and perform the solo with instruction under a non-monitized format? And then once I have an audience shift to more classic instruction (scales, modes, technique, etc...???) Would absolutely love your feedback. Subscribing to your channel now. thanks bud~! And GREAT RANT!!!

    just monetize thru patreon by creating additional content behind the scenes or sheet music only for patreons. it's a very supportable model, you get views and you still get paid by actual people who want it and appreciate your work. i'd rather support thru patreon as i do with other creators than joining special website.

    They should be happy you're using their song. It's like in the 70s Paul Simon got sued for his hit song "Kodachrome" until the dumbasses realized that the sales for their film were way up because of the song playing on the radio and it was free advertising. So they decided not to sue.

  • @daleleeroy

    IMO, these types of claims by rights holders are complete overreach. Unless you’re playing the entire recording in your video, these videos should fall under fair use.

  • @rolls7112
    @rolls7112 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    That’s the key bit these blockers forget and a key point you raise, without teachers and others highlighting these are twists work, no one goes to or may not discover these great artists, then nobody wins. The small minded mentality brigade 🤦‍♂️

  • @robertgreen3702
    @robertgreen3702 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You, Rick Beato and other teachers are giving free advertising and promotion to songs (esp pop songs that are mostly forgotten). They should pay YOU, dammit!!!

    Nothing new about youtube's stupid policies. Teaching and using music for educational purposes is 100% fair use and i'm sure if you told any artists of these songs, they would have no issue with anyone using their music for this purpose, in fact i'm sure they'd be angry that people are not able to use their music for that purpose.
