Rick: I discovered you by accident. But I have friends in "the industry" who tell me you're "the real deal." I agree. I enjoy what you do. You're not only a musician, but you're a natural teacher as well. People should leave you alone to do what you do. Keep doing it.
Immanuel Can Rick does this very difficult thing of appealing to both the layperson and the expert at the same time, while boring neither. For the layperson, one of his videos might be like a music appreciation course, giving the viewer a next level of understanding of what makes a song great. The very same video provides deeper analysis that gives insights to the trained musician exploring her or his craft. A lot of Rick’s analysis goes over my head when he gets into musical theory, yet he’s never boring. I suspect that Rick’s ability to engage and appeal to all levels comes from decades of teaching experience.
@@MarcosElMalo2 Well, he just also seems a very nice, personable guy. He genuinely likes what he's doing, and makes it impossible for watchers not to like it too.
Rick, literally EVERYBODY that watches even one of your videos, loves you. I hope you know that. I’m a forever subscriber. You make the most entertaining, educational videos for musicians (and music fans) on TH-cam, period. Keep doing what you’re doing and people will keep discovering you and following. THANK YOU for being YOU!
Rick Beato is correct! He's trying to inform the public about 50-year-old music (i.e. Eagles), and the artists and/or management are so stupid that they block it. "Life in the Dumb Lane"
I’m only coming across this video now , in June of ‘23 … and this is OUTRAGEOUS !!! You are actually providing free advertising to these artists !! Bringing music through the generations and ensuring that it’s never lost in time .. WE thankyou Rick !!!
Hey Rick - I was the bassist with Huey Lewis and the News for the first 20 years (the guy with the shades and cig) and Don Henley opened up for us in Japan one year. He was the MOSTnegative, pessimistic person I had ever met....example: q - "hey Don, do you want to go around the corner for Kobe beef. A - oh, they're probably closed" That seemed to be the attitude with everything. LOVE your channel.
I made a video to activate people on reducing emissions for climate change. 3 seconds of Arlo Guthrie protest song to introduce my acapella singing of chorus. 3 seconds. THEY put up an unauthorized content basket and monetized MY video. That protest song against the machine doesn't belong to the machine, Arlo Guthrie gave it to the world. and I only use 3 seconds just one bar to introduce my acapella version. BASTARDS.
Mario your bands early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Sports came out in '83, I think the band really came into their own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '87, Huey released Fore!, their most accomplished album. I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends. It's also a personal statement about the band itself.
I did a drum cover of Hotel California which was manually removed after 9M views and 4K comments. So I tried a collaboration, recording only the guitar intro and outro of the same song from scratch. That one was blocked too. Ok, I learnt my lesson, no more tribute to one of my favorite bands then. Well... Last week, I bought your ear training course, it's great, Rick :)
It's a shame that these guys don't understand how micromanaging the consumption of their music is alienating actual fans, not just cleaning up some fractional transactions that missed the bank. For instance (though I was never a huge fan), after the whole Napster thing happened, I lost all respect for Metallica and it never came back. I realize everyone has bills and they gotta eat etc, but once you make a clear stance that the money is the only thing you care about, I'm out. Protect yourself, it makes sense and we all get it. But don't throw away the most important part of music: *community.*
@@dooshnukem32 problem is Don Henley is from the pre internet generation and has not toured in recent years at least to my knowledge of which is how artists make their living in the You tube age I guess in his eyes he foresaw the advent of the internet as the end of the innocence..
I'm about to post a video of myself dancing to "Heartbreak Hotel," which is basically Michael Jackson's reaction to "Hotel California." I was so sure it would get blocked that I uploaded a second copy with altered tempo and muffled audio. Both videos were immediately demonetized, but not blocked at least. 😅
@@billstock3663 then he took the paranoid coward's viewpoint instead of realizing the ability to capitalize on his own terms. It's fine to protect your assets, in fact I encourage it. My point is that his approach is not only out of touch with the times, it goes against a cornerstone of art: it's for everyone. The fact that he has hired 60 people to hunt down arbitrary infractions and bully fans into submission is disturbing enough to begin with, but it's also incredibly disingenuous and disrespectful to the entire art community. He would be no one without us. The people he's attacking are the last chance at gaining a new audience. But I suppose if he wants to go out looking like an entitled, pompous, indignant has-been, that's his choice. He might be able to censor some of his own content, but he can't censor the reactions and the lasting effects.
I just have to comment on this again. This is directly to Rick: Don't let these idiots kill your inner fire, you are a great musician, transcriber, interpreter. People LOVE what you do. Keep it up, we'll keep subscribing and supporting. These fools blocking your videos want to keep their music alive but have no clue how to go about it.
The world is becoming a negative place…. You are trying to fix it. You Rick are a hero. Thank you for being an incredibly talented and caring individual.
The shitty thing is Rick, you are promoting THEIR music, you are educating the public about THEM, you are bringing THEIR music to people who would otherwise not know about it. And you do it brilliantly! If they watched your videos they would change their minds. And for Don Henley to be bitching about not making money, how many millions does he have as an Eagle and solo artist!!! Pathetic. Don’t stop Rick. Your videos are superb and sorely needed. Thank you!!!
His team are out there swatting down tribute band videos. I have friends in 2 different Eagles tribute bands and they get hit all the time. Like you said, they are out there bring the Eagles music to the people. They are keeping the name and the legacy alive. Henley is looking at this all the wrong way. His team should be out there just monetizing everything they can. He cold make money off this instead of pissing an moaning that others are.
@@jf11111 absolutely. I admit there are a lot of dicks trying to make money off the backs of great artists, but Rick is an absolute professional who serves the music community in every way. Watch any one of his videos and you will learn a TON. some people just don’t know a good thing when they see it. Compare the eagles response to Joni Mitchells. She invited him to dinner after seeing one of his videos about her!!!!!!
It didn't cause me to what to listen, just confirmed what I already thought about those so called hit songs. Bits and pieces can be somewhat interesting, but overall the songs are repetitive and sort of primary.
Watching this, you mentioned King Crimson... I haven't listened to them in many decades... often you do this and remind me of an artist and music that I want to go find and listen to. You support artists and should be encouraged, not blocked. You give so much good info on music. I learn lots.
The behavior of the people that “protect” these acts such as: The Eagles, Black Sabbath, G n’ R, etc...does a lot to diminish the legacy of these bands. I find myself living my life just fine without these acts. In the words from the 90’s....Don Henley, your ponytail is too tight.
What Beato does is HELP old bands - and some new bands - sell records! They ought to put the 60 people in the smoke-filled room in Don Henley’s offices to work on checking out the Bump in sales that follows a Beato/TH-cam performance/mention!!! This is Entertainment we’re talking about here, folks! Does Don H. kneel during the playing of his songs on Sirius radio?! 😂Do I care…?🙄😉😎. 🏴🏴🇬🇧🇺🇸🏴🏴💟✝️✌🏻💜🎸👨🏼⚕️🎸
Don Henley is 75 years old and he has $250 Million. I would THINK that time is more valuable to him now than money. He should certainly stop stressing about copyright problems and enjoy his remaining 15 years or so. Go buy an island, Don. Relax. Chill, and at the very least, pay someone else to worry about this. Good video, Rick! I'm sorry I missed that top 20. That sounded like it was awesome.
Miserable people don't know how to find inner peace. He is also a greedy individual. I used to like the Eagles, but as I learnt more about Don Henley and Glenn Frey I realized that this was not a band for me.
What the music industry fails to realise is that videos like Rick's introduce artists that many may not have heard about or have forgotten them. The music industry should look at it as free advertising for their artists. I have been listening to Rock music for over 55 years and I find it sad that many of my favourite bands block their music being heard. Keep going Rick - may not always agree with your choices, but boy it is great to watch your videos !!
Rick, I have a fly speck of a TH-cam channel and they took my cover of 'New Kid in Town' down soon after I uploaded it I asked myself how my singing their song was taking any money out of the pockets of any Eagles band members and couldn't come up with anything. It wasn't a big deal to me because I just did it for fun, but your videos have considerable value in the realm of teaching. I consider myself a reasonably intelligent person, but I can think of no way that your videos do anything besides put money INTO THE POCKETS of artists. It was hard to watch this video because I really respect your work and think I have an inkling of the tremendous effort that goes into what you give all of us for nothing. All I can do is say thanks and I'll try to do what I can to support. As a fan, I'm behind you.
With the hit of COVID, I went from 8 (covers) gigs a week to 0, overnight. I’m now doing Live-streams from home on FB. If there’s an Eagles or Don Henley song in the two- (or sometimes three-) hour stream, within /moments/ of being uploaded to TH-cam (not monetised, because SOME of the songs I do are covers) I get an email to say the vid’s been blocked. Such a silly, pointless shame.
Who is Don Henley ? (seriously that's is what is going to happen as the Eagles slip into obscurity) I went on Robert Fripps TH-cam channel and left a message for him to check out your post and explained that Aviator were making his music fade into rock history. Please keep up what you do, the videos you do are some of the best on you tube.
@@neaituppi7306 There's no criticism of Robert Fripp or anyone else, I just thought he ought to know, he didn't sell his point of view. It's just not right to put any music out of reach of people like Rick who are merely using the music to educate others.
Fripp is a great guy, an amazing artist, love him, but also quite a weirdo. Some of his ideas are reeeeally out there. And I think he doesn't get this at all and wants (or at least used to feel this way) wants to just bring the hammer down on any music being transferred through the internet. For a while you could not buy any Crimson music digitally AT ALL.
Try Toyah's channel. Maybe she'll see it. Two more eyeballs in the same room, if you've been watching the ... uh ... I don't know what to call it but it's usually adorable af with dancing and LP goldtops...
Cracks me up. Back in the day, all the artists went nuts about censorship and the parental advisory crap, now they’ve flipped. Because it’s not in their favor. Do they not get that these videos make them even more popular and their music heard more? Shallow as a wading pool. Great content as always brother
Side note: Ricks channel reaches non musicians. Hell my 83 year old father has watched it and he is not remotely musical. Keep it up Rick. You're educating the masses. Now my pa is being exposed to this young Van Halen kid. ;)
I know nothing about music, technically, but I subscribe to Rick's channel and Jacob Collier because they speak so passionately about the subject and so I want to listen and maybe learn something.
This is my favorite TH-cam video of all time. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Rick Beato and my respect to him is for his integrity. I don't know Rick but I do know Rick is a teacher. Rick teaches a lesson in integrity in this video. I hope his lesson reaches the class.
LOL... yeah that might be part of the reason why the band broke up. Oh, excuse me..."took a 15 year vacation" as the "hell freezes over" statement went. DON HENLEY, get this: 1) you are amazingly talented as a song writer, musician and arranger as well as performer. 2) that does not make you an legal expert 3) that does not make you automatically a genius about social-networking nor music streaming 4) it does not make your lawyers into geniuses about either of the above either 5) maybe you should have spent your money on hiring people who HELP YOU TO MARKET TO SOCIAL NETWORKING instead of a sweatshop of sixty people to try to shut it down. 6) in general the music labels are resisting the change in their industry because they are incompetent to adapt 7) and that refusal to adapt is simply indicative of a larger problem in corporate america, which is hardly news to those who actually pay attention
Don Felder would know. And, Joe Walsh gets clean from drugs and drinking. And then turns his back on Don Felder the best guitar player of the Eagles. Joe Walsh Dose music for the money not for the love unfortunately. ALot of people are only in music for the money. Just like Metallica a band I can't stand with their Meet and Greets that are a few thousand dollars. I would never ever pay for someone's autograph. I got Pat Travers Autograph and talked to him for 15 minutes. Very nice guy and, one of my favorite guitar players.
@@buddywilliams5650 I have to assume that the intrusion of corporate america into the art of music, has a variety of consequences. one of which is that some artists are quite wealthy but the downside is that there is probably a lot of pressure to "make money" and a variety of marketing ploys to do that- among which are appearances for money, which do not involve actually performing.
@@tracyavent-costanza346 The two major reasons that both Don Henley and Glenn Frey were world-class dicks are: Cocaine and Irving Azoff. Azoff - from day one as their manager - represented the interests of only Henley and Frey at the expense of the rest of the band. He purposely created friction - then hate - between the two sides, fed their egos. Cocaine magnified the hate, as it does. For Azoff, it was all about money, since Henley/Frey had the most songwriting credits. Look at Azoff now, posing on his $100M stretch-yacht. No band manager deserves more of the profits than the musicians. Don Felder doesn't have a stretch-yacht.
@@broeheem2804 thank you for that background. I did not know that story but I see little doubt that they were two sides being played by the middle for the middle's own benefit and at everyone else's expense. The economist in me, looks at phenomena like this and wonders how it became capitalistically a-moral. It is certainly unethical.
You're a damn fine human being, Rick. And an upstanding, unselfish, incredibly gifted musician and you have helped me to move my own guitar playing towards a much more pleasing experience for myself. And I thank you from the depths of my heart.
Aren’t they missing the point? A lot of these bands stopped being relevant a long time ago. Your videos actually promote and encourage people to seek them out. I turned your Top 20 ballads and solos videos into playlists on Apple Music. I’m now listening to stuff I otherwise wouldn’t have.
God bless you maxthomas78!. These bands will continue to be irrelevant, no matter how good their music is simply because of terrible, short sighted content blocking policy of screwing over content creators like Rick who are not just giving them free advertising of their music but also introducing a whole new generation to it. The other day at the supermarket I heard a kid humming "Angie" by the Rolling Stones & I asked them where they had heard that song. Imagine my shock when they replied "From Rick Beato, boomer....get with it man" even though I'm an X gen pmsl
The part that gets me about this is that all these videos do is promote the music. I watch Razorfist's Metal Mythos videos. Because of his videos, I went from 4 metal albums to 67. I spent hundreds of dollars on music I'd otherwise have never bought. Because of Rick's Toto video about Rosanna, I finally got that album and it's one of my favorites. I don't see how a few seconds of a song being played is this massive violation when the end result will likely be someone buying that song, the album, or, if they're a completionist like me, the musician's entire catalogue. They're hurting their own cause by blocking content.
In the History Of The Eagles, Glenn pointed out how their popularity grew when they broke up in 1980 because of the popularity of classic rock radio, you would think that the idea of introducing new generations of people to old music via a new format would be something they would all understand.
It's been 2 years and I've thought about this issue a lot. Like many here I'm old and I'm old school. I know who King Crimson are and what they sound like. There are however many more out there who've never heard of them. You and your channel provide an opportunity for these artists to be remembered and heard. You do it for free when in reality someone should be paying you for presenting the artist/album/song. You don't ask for that. All you want to do is be left alone to get on with your great work. Those people on the other end of the phone probably don't even know who King Crimson are.
I can't tell you how many times I've "re-discovered" a song from the past while watching TH-cam videos and then purchased that song from iTunes so I can add it to my phone's play list. I have some really obscure stuff from the 70s and 80s, but It's funny because I don't have a single Eagles song in my digital collection.
For me personally, it's because every good Eagles song is already played to death on the radio. They have been one of the best selling rock acts for decades, they don't need constant new revenue.
He is paying the wages of 60 people to actively prevent people from hearing his music from decades ago. If that isn't the epitome of self defeating behavior... Not to mention the hatred he garners from people who were fans. He's missing the big picture while he's bending over picking up pennies
@Dean Green : Maybe Don Henley is acting like this due to losing a couple lawsuits against Geffen ...then stupidly signs back with the same label ....lol
The Eagles music is some of my favorite, but with Henley having the personality of a cactus I'm not proud of it. There are so many nicer people in the industry.
When Radio was young almost 100 years ago NO musician wanted their records played on the radio. They thought it would stop record sales and no one would come see them in concert if their music was available for free on the radio. Turned out to be completely wrong: The more people heard the song on the radio the more they wanted to buy it and own it, AND the more people wanted to go hear those musicians play it live, and concert ticket sales went UP! Promotion of music is a funny thing.
Big Rick I feel your frustration brotha, I 100% love your purpose, your content, and your passion for what you do. Music touches our hearts and your videos have brought joy to my soul, your take aways on Music shows decades of priceless experienced interpretations. An amazing very indepth breakdown of the song and artist . Your a genius in your own way, Rick . thank you Rick for taking the time to share your knowledge , wisdom and passion. You have many people on your side than you know brotha. God bless you and will keep supporting a real and genuine craftsman of your art. Love your content..
If that pub or restaurant is doing it right, that is paid for. They are supposed to pay for the privilege of having live or even recorded music being played and that money is supposed to make it to the rights holders. Same as here on youtube, when it is demonetized that just means the money is supposed to be going to the rights holders. but hey whatever.
@@WellnessRosterHQ yeah, bars and such pay thousands per year for live and recorded music use to BMI/ASCAP and bitch about that cost all the time but usually wind up paying it. But that formula is usually based on seating capacity not how much music is actually played there.
When an artist performs someone's song it's generally already covered. Restaurants and pubs are supposed to be paying performing rights organizations annually, in order to cover that. That's how those performances get paid for.
The reality is you're drawing people to artists that some may never even have heard of before. What you do it's invaluable and is a necessary thing! Thank you!
Hey Rick for starters your top 20 debut video was great. I thought about it all day today. I can’t believe that artists get upset over these things. In so many cases your promoting their work and talent. The idea of paying people to watch content just to block it is a absolute oxymoron. Please don’t stop what you do. Your channel better than great. You have carved out your own space on TH-cam. There is not another channel like yours !
THe irony here is that Rick’s videos give all credit and respect to the artist whose music is featured. Rick’s insights make their music even more enjoyable after the fact. Thanks to Rick, some people may buy those albums who otherwise wouldn’t even have heard of them. RIck, I think you should try to get a ‘Beato Exception” written into copyright law which would lay somewhere between education, analysis and promotion, An artist should be delighted to have you mention them as far as I’m concerned.
You are correct, people are always seeking insight and knowledge. Rick delivers those nuggets of insight as an inspiration to broaden your understanding of music. Much like we need people to provide insight to sculpture and paintings, music is no different. Sadly there are those who wish to close down debate and knowledge. Time and history has forgotten those people of the past and Don Henley, Black Sabbath, and Guns & Rose will be on the ash heap of forgotten history. When Don Henley is on his death bed he will not be saying “If I just could of banned one more music lover”. To Rick keep on dong what you do, because you are appreciated far more than you know.
Don Henley has no idea how much money people like me have spent on albums and singles PURELY off the back of videos like Ricks, which bring so much music to people who otherwise wouldn’t know it exists. By my reckoning, Don owes Rick.
So if not for Rick you wouldn't' know about Don Henley's music? I guarantee and I mean I guarantee if you wrote music and someone wanted to use that bit of music for their purpose without compensating you you would be outraged as anyone should.
I was in my guitar lesson the other day, learning 'Hotel California'. Suddenly Don Henley and 40 lawyers came into the room, grabbed the fee away from my guitar teacher, and left without a word.
I’m a composer who makes a living writing music. I’ve heard my music ripped off so many times I can’t even tell you. That being said, there needs to be a special exemption for educators on TH-cam. They provide content and services that add to the public good and enrich society in general. This needs to be written into law so people like Rick can keep teaching and adding to the public good.
And if you’re a composer and a commentator on TH-cam plays 15 seconds of a song or piece to show how great is, why wouldn’t you be grateful. Playing the whole piece is obviously wrong but let’s have some common sense.
I don't understand. You have 200 million dollars, and might make $1000 more here or there from TH-cam. On the other hand, you have a SUPER popular TH-camr essentially immortalizing the band, bringing it to younger audiences, explaining WHY the band is so great, and WHAT the band did that deserves to be remembered. How much would I PAY RICK to talk about anything I've ever done musically? How much credibility and value would it add to my existence of a human being if I was ever promoted by him by being included on a list? Can we all make a "Don Henley go F#*k yourself" petition?
Hang in there, bro. You are ENORMOUSLY important to literally thousands of musicians out there who admire what you do ! You have POSITIVELY affected a lot of lives of many talented musicians. KEEP DOING what YOU'RE DOING. A huge fan: -Frieberg, Ohio
Agree.. this will help me determine which artists to particularly avoid streaming. I already own much of this on CD.. no reason to give them more money if they're going to be like this..
Channels like this one bring music to a new generation of listeners and enhances the experience of those of us who have loved the music for years. I have downloaded so much music from iTunes based on being turned on to music that was new to me or songs I have all but forgotten about, but are great. Your videos are a commercial for their product. It is insane.
I’m 62 and I remember so well hearing songs from the 70’s and 80’s when they played everyday. Heard them hundreds of times but listening to Ricks breakdown of every part of a song is amazing. It is almost as if I’m hearing it for the first time. You really have to know what you’re doing and Rick certainly does. But what really draws me to this channel is his enthusiasm for the artists and his appreciation for their work.
You can tell Rick really is all about the music. He's so upset, frothing at the mouth, but when it comes to music history, songwriting, etc., as angry as he is, he still gives Henley his props. Think about that, kids. That's how politics used to be, too.
I sincerely just don't understand why and how these bands can't see how their content being shared on YT is a WIN for them. They get paid for the views, they get talked about, they get pushed buy the algorithm and they get exposed a LOT more than they would only through apple music, spotify or even their YT channel. Instead of employing 60 people to block videos, they could use that power to claim videos, get the monetization and maybe collabing with creators they would jugde good for them. I don't know man, these people are weird haha. Like they haven't got a 2x DIAMOND album. F them, really. You're great, Rick, just for the record!
While watching this, I was thinking, "These TH-camrs are kinda like today's version of the old radio DJs, back when Top-40 radio was how you heard about new music." The record companies would send tons of records to the Top-40 stations, hoping that their records would be the ones selected by the DJs to be played. There were even "payola" schemes where they'd bribe DJs to select their music. So now, what? we (artists/labels) want to make the "DJ's" pay *us* for playing our music? It may be old music, but there's a whole vast world of youngsters (& even some not so young) out there for whom it's new, because they've never heard of a lot of this stuff. These are potential fans, who might not be satisfied with a 9-second clip of a song that they'd be willing to pay Apple Music or the like, a buck to get the whole thing. But if some fool who thinks he's being robbed by a YT vid touting it, has the vid taken down, then those YT watchers aren't gonna get the chance to buy it, because they'll never even find out it exists. There's an old proverb about a goose that laid golden eggs, that these dunderheads might do well to look into... Fred
@@ffggddss yes! Things are getting inverted now. But it's a lost battle Don is fighting. As he said, by the time he would have had the blocking job done there would be another bilion videos. But for me its really weird the mindset they have. Like "I dont want to get promoted (and paid by it) because then I remain a mistery and people buy my record at apple music" 🤦♂️
The odd thing here Rick is Don should be sending you gratuities and promoting your website, based on your efforts towards making whoever is watching your videos aware of other artists and groups, songs, and all that goes with it. I like pretty much everyone on here derives value and appreciates your efforts.
No he should at all. Fan listen if you use the artists work you pay for use of the license. We will always strike anything that the talent did not ask for because the views = money so pay the up sucker !
I think the point missed is that when you see a clip here, you might actually go and check out, and then go ahead and purchase music by the original artist, and thereby *contribute* to the original creator.
J F I have bought Boston, Yes, Peter Gabriel, then I remembered Been Caught Stealing was on a cassette single, remember those? so that is some of what I bought all bc of what makes this song great or it reminded me, oh yeah, I should replace xyz too. I was big into industrial club and found DJ Flax on here which has been awesome since back in the day you had to wait to ask the dj what he was playing song before last. From him I’ve updated front 242, Cabaret Voltaire, etc. Maybe they should invest in seeing what triggers buying spikes of old material. Or maybe they should think about those of us that have purchased the same album in multiple formats that have helped them out? And ppl taped off the radio way back. I get that he has a right to be paid but what platform would would promote his old stuff?
"Hey - You gotta hear this!" Said millions of powerless "little guys" in 1971, as they exposed the Eagles to a world of listeners. If they hadn't done that... Henley would be washing dishes in some biker-bar today and would have something to whine about.
@@pipperoooo Ha! There's actually a place with this name on Dauphin Island in Alabama and every night the locals gather there to watch the sunset and the dolphins. I'd be honored to see Don washing my shot-glasses.
Thank you for all you do, Rick. A couple of thoughts after watching this: -- Where is Don Henley getting those numbers? And out of those "billions" of uploads, does he differentiate those that are fair use and those that are not? Does he even acknowledge the fair use doctrine in copyright law? -- I know you think your testimony won't make a difference, but I disagree. You have credentials as a musician, a producer, an educator, and a social media influencer. You have over a million subscribers, something that most senators can't claim. You have over 35 years of experience in the industry. What you say is important -- otherwise, they wouldn't have called you to testify. These are the people who make laws and set policy. If you think those who testify have no influence on politicians, please look up Fred Rogers and his testimony in the late 60's defending public television from proposed budget cuts. He almost singlehandedly was able to convince the chairman to change his mind through his power of persuasion. What you have to say is important for the country to hear. It is tempting to be cynical, but I do believe that individuals can bring change given the right circumstances. We are with you.
Fun fact: Don Henley is probably the reason why I play the guitar. When I heard The Boys Of Summer as a kid, I didn't even know that what I was listening to was an electric guitar (I'm talking very young kid, here), but I knew it was the coolest sounding instrument I'd ever heard. I gravitated to the electric guitar because of that tune... and it turns out he's a w***er... Great...

Screw these dinosaurs Rick. My name is Danny Holloway, im 30 years old, and im from Texas. I have been following your channel for several years now. I graduated from community college in may of 2017 with a degree in audio engineering technology. Despite everything i learned there from music fundamentals to being an engineer i have learned even more from you. I pray that i get to work with you or even for you someday Rick. The issue you are pressing here means a lot to me, because you are right its just sad when you have people like Don Henley or Gene Simmons who you love their music, but you cant stand the fact that they are so money hungry. You are also right, because in my music business course i took i was not being taught about chasing down every medium that could actually help promote me if i use it the right way. I was taught the exact opposite that i should embrace them.
Last time I checked Dire Straits weren’t blockers. Sounds like a “WMTSG” is a win for everybody. All the virtuosity. None of the shenanigans. I’m just saying.... Ok. Now to be serious. Every time we hear one of your treatments of a song you help us find things that we didn’t hear before. It makes the song better. Makes us appreciate it more. How can that not be a good thing for the artist?... Thanks for what you do.
King crimson is one of the most ridiculous copyright censors. They removed an entire music review channel from TH-cam they didn’t like, and he never used a second of their music in his videos
Unbelievable!.. I can’t tell you how many albums and dvds I’ve bought because of reviews from people like you Rick. Free advertising for these artists.
Same, even with COVID lockdowns I've bought CDs & MP3s of these songs from Rick's WMTSG videos even though my old cassette tapes had got mangled in tape players from when I was a kid
People like Henley don't understand that TH-cam is a new form radio, where kids discover new songs and genres that they like. If they banish their own music from the public eye then they're destined to fade into obscurity.
Your channel has introduced me to music I’ve never heard, and, I went out and bought that music. It’s free press for these guys and they are upset by that? Their loss. Thank you for what you do. I know this was 10 months ago.
Rick, you dont get paid for your videos. I cant tell you how helpful you are. When we get older we like to share what we know and give back. What you do is so appreciated and so needed. You made music theory fun. That's a great teacher. So much fun to watch and thank you for what you do.
I was in my car listening to Hotel California. My windows were down and I was cranking it pretty loud. All of a sudden a representative for Henley approached the driver's side and handed me a notice to turn it down so passers by could not hear it.
@@conniethesconnie I was always on Don Felder's side in the whole Eagles law suit. They were a corporation where every band member was an equal partner and Henley and Fry decided they should be getting more money than the rest of the band. They had money withheld from the other members and Felder sued. If they were equal partners and Henley and Fry thought they should have gotten more money, they should have voted on a new share balance and they all should have accepted the outcome of the vote. Going behind the other members' backs was cowardly.
Rick, your "What Makes This Song Great" is some of the best content on TH-cam. Period! These idiots should be paying YOU for free advertising for their music that is NO LONGER RELEVANT! They should be thankful to you for introducing a younger generation to some great music from years gone by. Are kids today really going out and purchasing any of the Eagles music anymore? I think probable not! But they would certainly be more inclined to give it a try after watching you break it down on "What Makes This Song Great"!
King Crimson only true fans know who they r. They should be happy that 2 generations after their debut Rick is reintroducing them to the youth of today.
Exactly. What Rick does is free promotion. He is here literally telling the world about how GREAT this music is. You think people are only going to listen to the excerpts in his videos if they like the music. Hell no. They are going to jump on Amazon and buy the album and them check tour dates. This is what the record companies can't understand. They all freaked out after Napster and now all digital content is bad.
What Henley fails to recognize or acknowledge is that when someone like Rick makes a video about an Eagles song, the Eagles get more publicity and get more airtime on Spotify/Pandora etc and income.
Not sure it’s a rational thing with most blockers, they’re typically just throwing hissy, pissy fits because they can- Henley’s tilting at windmills, a very, very rich buggy builder whining about them damn cars. Royalties & musicians getting fairly paid for their songs/work/copyrights, etc., are huge, important issues that seriously need new ideas, and legislation, but Henley’s angrily anachronistic take on things is just steering in the rearview mirror.
This is the point indeed. Recording a gig (secretly, without asking allowance) and uploading it to youtube or to it's likes is a crime, not Rick telling facts and praising artists' legacy with a few seconds clips. Also, ripping a just released movie and publishing it is a crime. Rick, instead, is PROMOTING artists, new, old and dead, enriching clips with background infromation as well as deep-diving into their music. Rick should paid by them, not punished. How crazy has the world gone!
Rick, you are a national treasure, and I don't mean that sarcastically. Your channel has helped me appreciate music in a whole new way, and become a much better (and more aware) musician. We need more Rick Beatos in this world, and no amount of bed-wetting rich crybabies or overbearing bureaucrats are going to ruin the love of music for your 1.5 million followers.
The Don Henley’s and Glenn Frey’s spend their life’s tilting at windmills even when the windmills are no more. Don only has 2 passions, counting his money, and finding another injustice that has been performed against him. Sadly he has long forgotten people trying to learn about music and understanding the importance of a 50 year old band. If you want to be relevant you need to understand what makes you relevant, and it isn’t rolling out on another tour charging $500 a ticket. Elvis hasn’t performed in years and is more relevant than the Eagles. ( sign me up if he goes on tour)! Thanks Rick for all the great work you do!
So let’s get this straight: you have given me 9 seconds of their album free of charge? That’s brilliant! I don’t have to buy the album any more because I can just keep playing my free 9 seconds of it on your channel! Yay!
@Buck The Banjo Player What do you mean with "if it means nothing"? That makes no sense. If you're saying that showing a 9 second part of a song for the sake of a review doesn't have a point, then you don't seem to know how reviewing things work. The fact is that it is legal to show minor parts of a copyrighted work if you're talking about it. News channels do that all the time. It's called fair use. And of course it "means something" to show a part of what you're talking about lol.
Ann,...if you playHenkeys 9 seconds and don't buy the tune he'll go bankrupt! And it will be YOUR fault! I wrote ' Henkey'so he doesn't sue me for "definition of character". Or is it Defamation Don? Douchebag!
I have never heard of King Crimson before. There is a lot of music and acts that I discover thanks to people like Rick who put out videos. If something catches my ear, I will try to find more on Spotify or TH-cam to listen to. But, if these 9 second snippets are not played how will people discover their music? How is it that Kidz Bop and Alvin and The Chipmunks can cover just about any song they want to yet there is not outlet to allow honest music reviews on the internet?
Sadly it's not even the artists but the corporations that own the rights to music which they didn't even create ... most artists would probably be cool with it ...
I have known of this channel now for a bit over two weeks. I subscribed yesterday. I am not a musician and really enjoy RB's episodes. It's like a class and I feel this is what YT should be. The point is, since browsing RB's catalog of videos, I have bought 5 CD's. I am one that needs the product in my hand.
Amazingly enough, I just finished listening to "21st Century Schizoid Man" here - on TH-cam - in its entirety. Now why in the world would they block 9 seconds of the song and not over 7 minutes. It's as thought they are, dare I say it? Schizoid! This channel is the best free advertising the owners of the song could hope for.
@@gammaraygem I know! ARGH! EX: I argue that LIZARD by KC is not only their best album (ex: not one second of waste or wank) (ex: TWO great lead singers!) (ex: 3 of their best insane POP songs!)...but may be the BEST musical album EVER (b/c it covers so much ground in so many genres!) (though i always call it "MEDIEVAL JAZZ"!) BUT I CAN'T SEND LIZARD (via YT video) to all my friends etc, to PROMOTE it! ARGH! (Would Fripp have been angry if a KC song was on the radio all the time? "People can tape it off the airwaves free!")
@@gammaraygem yeah I discovered KC last year so I was glad to see their early work uploaded to TH-cam, and for the record your schizoid comment was pretty clever :)
I’m a 64 year old fart who has learned about more new artists via youtube than I ever did during the FM radio heyday of the 60s and 70s. What the eff is wrong with these “music management” companies? They’re just a bunch of mindless bean counters. I remember how the record companies destroyed a lot of indie CD stores when they fought to prevent used CD sales. I can’t tell you how many new CDs I bought because of my exposure to a band via used CDs.
This is disgusting … You are doing a phenomenal service here for us and for the artists!!!!! I rarely leave your video without downloading from Apple. I’m sick.
Rick, sorry to hear that your video was blocked. As someone who exclusively uses copyrighted audio and video for my TH-cam channel, I understand your frustration with spending hours on a video only to have it blocked. Please keep making awesome content. I’m a big fan of your channel.
These people are killing the chances of newer generations to come to know their music. Kids now don’t watch TV, they are all on TH-cam. It’s simply sheer stupidity!
I think Henley is doing newer generations and the world in general a favor by not allowing them to come to know his music. It's way, way past its "sell by" date and was never all that great in the first place. There's so much better stuff coming out now if one knows where to look, on Bandcamp and elsewhere. I'm not hatin' on the style, I love some good yacht rock, but The Eagles were bad news
Rick, I can't afford money to support but I do support your experience and love hearing your opinions, honestly when these artists drop ticket prices for their concerts I might feel bad that I listen to their song for free. I do absolutely buy music lots of music but when the little guy, (me) can't afford to see my heroes well I guess I will watch and listen to TH-cam. Thank you Rick for all your advice and teaching me to be a better bassist
Through the years it has become abundantly clear to me who was the main cause of friction and subsequent breakup of the Eagles. Mr. Henley, care to comment?
i am a musician and i think this whole copyright infringement thing has gone waaaaay too far. And people out there abuse the system put in place for needful protection. The whole thing sickens me
These people obviously arent in it for the love of music. Pure greed. Any musician worth my respect would want people to hear their music just for the joy of it. I lost all respect for metallica over this same kind of crap. I cant even listen to their music anymore because the thought of their attitude about this stuff just disgusts me. It's one thing if you're a starving artist who is struggling to survive. But when you're a multimillionaire who is crying and sueing over people simply wanting to listen to your music but cant afford or justify paying for it, you dont deserve the fan base that you're railing against.
@@bobjob140 Exactly !!, Rick is doing it for the complete opposite reason and thank god he is .. A lot of people Myself included have learned so much from his content .... These greedy (insert descriptive here) all need a reality check !! THANK YOU RICK !!!!!
I can’t tell you how much music outside of my usual realm that I’ve come to appreciate ( and buy) because of Rick’s videos. The artists should realize his educational aspects and musicological aspects FAR outweigh the small snippets of the songs posted. He’s not stealing, he’s telling the world LOOK HOW GREAT THIS SONG OR ARTIST IS!
Absolutely. Rick is sharing his love and knowledge of music with the world, and these poor millionaires just can't help but try and stifle all that because they're seeing a tiny dip in revenue or whatever. The dinosaurs will all be dead eventually.
Have heard nasty things about Don Henley over the years. My husband and his brothers were all stagehands. Mostly setting up concerts, working them, then taking them down, loading trucks, ect. It’s very sad to know that most of these things they heard were very likely the truth.
I guarantee you’re making these musicians MORE money, because when you dissect a great song, it makes people appreciate it and want to go buy it or stream it.
Before watching Rick's vids, I didn't know of Pat Matheny or Jaco Pastorius. No I have albums of theirs and Weather Report too. Being a life long Metal head, I needed to expand and Rick explains and offers perspectives that encourage and allow the viewer to do that. Yes, musicians actually MAKE MONEY after his invaluable critiques. Thank, Rick! Hopefully, King Crimson's management and others start to realize, that other whole generations get exposed to a lot of music on You Tube and if they do realize it and wise up and think, "Hopefully, of all that music, some of it's mine.". They'll get over it.
Absolutely! It can introduce people to songs or artists that they may not be familiar with, remind people how good a band may have been or put a song or band in a new perspective, prompting people to go out and look for the music. It happens to me with TV or movie clips as well. If these people ran food companies, there would be no Costco /Sams Club free samples to let people try a small piece of something, to make them hungry for more. (I mean, there were items I didn't even think SOUNDED good but one taste and I had the box from the freezer section in my cart). For me, it was the same way in the 90s and early 2000s when we'd make each other mixed tapes or mixed CDs - it actually whet our appetite for MORE of that music. Shoot, someone even gave me an ENTIRE album by Muse ("Absolution" fantastic record and I STILL went out and bought it because it was that good, and I wanted to have the original, with the packaging and all.
I'm just reading this and I am sad. How will the young people know what good music sounds like without someone like Rick Beato pointing out what is so amazing about the music from the past. So if you don't want to be mentioned as being awesome, go ahead and block his videos with your snip of music. History will eventually forget you and that is your own fault.
Well you partly have to blame the great classic rock artists we love so much. Their glory days ended decades ago, they've lost the passion and willpower to continue that success and make new and accessible music so they have to capitalize on the past as much as possible. Touring the greatist hits has not proved to be as lucrative as it has been in the past decade as well because they obviously can't play their songs anywhere near as well as they could, and have to cater to a specific demographic that is slowly dying out, save a few exceptions.
@@IgnorancEnArrogance hey if new and accessible means everything sounds the same and is boring as hell, i'll take the great classic rock artists side any day.
@@jamescuttsmusicjcm5013 - Hey I agree with you man, but that's not exactly how I mean it. New and accessible by their standards, sticking to their style and experiences in life but exploring new territory, surprising the old generation and attracting the new generation. Paul McCartney, Glenn Hughes, and Bob Dylan have done a fairly good job at this among many others.
Somehow, I can just imagine Don Henley in the seventies rolling up on a fan in the next lane with an Eagles 8-track blaring out of his car stereo, and taking his tape because people in the other cars weren't personally paying Don Henley to hear his music. I hope all the classic rock stations take the Eagles off their playlists so Don can watch those sweet royalty checks dry up, all because he wouldn't let people like you teach young folks about his music. The word is "douchebag", Rick. Call him what he is.
When I think of this problem, I get confused, because the Eagles were freakishly talented. Don Henley gave so much to music that it's hard to fathom. But I hate to see and am mortified to witness what he's doing to Rick and others. I am truly confused- and it doesn't happen to me often.
ha ha you think so , go on to a topic page with a political heading then say anything against it and youre comment will be removed faster that you can refresh the page. shadow banning is alive and well
Just catching up as a new subscriber. You seemed to be going through a rough time here and it’s so inspiring retrospectively to see how much happier you are now.
As a former artist who was signed to MCA in the very early 90s, Rick, I find your opinions, knowledge, and willingness to share really inspiring and rewarding. Your take on the music business is so dead-on and your music knowledge is truly amazing! Cheers to you!
The true nightmare: Huge labels with a billion sub-labels like SONY MUSIC GROUP (when it comes to new artists who aren't keyed ONLY towards touring, but writing & marketing). It's not unbearable, but difficult right now.
I’m glad I found your channel. Really like your interviews… so informative. Usually after I watch one of your videos I will go to Spotify and listen to the artists that you have on. I’m sure that the artist makes money from that. You should post what artist are keeping your work from getting out and let the public do the rest.
Rick, you're doing these musicians a favor, not just promoting their work, but revealing the genius of their work that novices like me would never grasp. You analyze at a level that even should I study music theory I will never understand in the way I do watching your videos. All of your work is inaccessible by artists. Nobody is doing the work FOR THEM that you do, and your doing it for free. Love you man! You are freakin awesome. Their mgmt is damaging the artists interests, not protecting them.
That is so spot on. It's exactly why I hold Rick in such high esteem. I can't understand crucifying genius and generosity for the purpose of shooting your own feet off. Who does that serve?
@@jaymusic9039 Not 'using someone else's music', just reviewing and analysing music under fair use. Why shouldn't we honour him instead of the actual criminals who don't seem to grasp that fair use is a legal right.
I have gained so much understanding about how much genius goes into some songs that I listen to music differently since finding Rick. I love watching his reactions.
I'm with you Rick. Take a hint Don from Fleetwood Mac. They adored the Cranberry Juice video and their music is more popular than ever. Stop censorship.
Yup, and when someone breaks down an entire song in 50 pieces to talk about it, everyone out there is going to jump on that crap video/audio and stitchi it all together so they can see it uncut! The Henley's of the world are just greedy idiots, and they ALWAYS hide behind "it's for the artist" crap, because otherwise, if they chose not to outright lie, even THEY would be embarrassed about what they are doing. Dinosaurs with half an ounce of functioning brain matter, that's really all it is. I don't think it would be a bad thing if most of the record companies out there disappeared off the face of the Earth, frankly. I see vids all the time of groups doing their own recordings in house and frankly, many times they are better. And you don't need some crap record company that takes all YOUR money, as a musician, to 'promote' you any more...platforms like YT work pretty well, for the most part. After they started suing mom' and pops I don't know why anybody bought any records off them, I didn't, and you know what, if NOBODY had, just watch how quickly they would come around.
Eagles are complete a-holes and bullies on youtube. There are 2 types of claims on YT, a composition claim (that demonetizes cover videos), and audio claims (that claim you're using the original audio from the artist and those claims block videos). I did a Hotel California solo cover where I play both guitars, drums and bass, which means I recorded every sound in my video, and they went in and manually claimed an audio claim saying I played the original record, and of course blocked it. There is nothing a youtuber can do, because if you appeal, and they don't accept your appeal, that's an automatic strike on your channel. That is just bullying by false claiming and you have nothing with which to fight back! That would be like beating up a disabled person.
There is no defense against false claims, the appeal system is broken because the appeal goes to the claimant, not to a fair third party, nobody wants to bother with false claims
Thank you for this video Rick. Very informative. A friend of mine runs an acoustic channel that has released a top notch guitar demo every day for about 18 months. Not a huge channel but people seem to enjoy it. I do. About 1500 videos on it last I looked. Earlier this year, Henley’s goons blocked two of their videos within 5 minutes of each other (for 24 seconds ‘Hotel California’ and a bit of ‘Boys Of Summer’). They removed all related videos immediately (about 27 Eagles/Henley vids) to avoid the whole channel being lost and all the hundreds of hours of work being for nothing. In the 70s it was all live shows, LPs and mystery - now it’s the social media microscope, and the Eagles’ legacy is withering by the day. Music is traditionally taught and handed down through generations, that’s how longevity is acheived. Henley is not only ebbing that crucial process for the Eagles, but losing fans like us through their greed (and more than a splash of narcissism I expect).

Rick Beato is correct! He's trying to inform the public about 50-year-old music (i.e. Eagles), and the artists and/or management are so stupid that they block it. "Life in the Dumb Lane"

Surprised Don didn't try to file a copyright notice on behalf of Japan against the Kobe beef cows.
BASTARDS.
No wonder Stevie Nicks dumped him with an attitude like that.
It's also a personal statement about the band itself.
thank you Mario for being a good sport I only posted that for fun ! it was there so I took it !!

The fact that he has hired 60 people to hunt down arbitrary infractions and bully fans into submission is disturbing enough to begin with, but it's also incredibly disingenuous and disrespectful to the entire art community.
Rick, I have a fly speck of a TH-cam channel and they took my cover of 'New Kid in Town' down soon after I uploaded it

I like to karaoke and a lot of the artists who block r some of the songs i like to sing. Just waiting for them to start blocking the programs.

No.
Side note: Ricks channel reaches non musicians. Hell my 83 year old father has watched it and he is not remotely musical. Keep it up Rick. You're educating the masses. Now my pa is being exposed to this young Van Halen kid. ;)
Yeah totally agree... not only about age but even from around the globe. Keep it up Rick!
I know nothing about music, technically, but I subscribe to Rick's channel and Jacob Collier because they speak so passionately about the subject and so I want to listen and maybe learn something.
Absolutely, I enjoy music but am not a bit myself - really enjoy his chat.
This is my favorite TH-cam video of all time. I have a tremendous amount of respect for Rick Beato and my respect to him is for his integrity. I don't know Rick but I do know Rick is a teacher. Rick teaches a lesson in integrity in this video. I hope his lesson reaches the class.
Amen to that
A great storyteller indeed.
"No-one can suck the fun out of a room like Don Henley" - Glenn Frey
LOL... yeah that might be part of the reason why the band broke up. Oh, excuse me..."took a 15 year vacation" as the "hell freezes over" statement went. DON HENLEY, get this:
1) you are amazingly talented as a song writer, musician and arranger as well as performer.
2) that does not make you an legal expert
3) that does not make you automatically a genius about social-networking nor music streaming
4) it does not make your lawyers into geniuses about either of the above either
5) maybe you should have spent your money on hiring people who HELP YOU TO MARKET TO SOCIAL NETWORKING instead of a sweatshop of sixty people to try to shut it down.
6) in general the music labels are resisting the change in their industry because they are incompetent to adapt
7) and that refusal to adapt is simply indicative of a larger problem in corporate america, which is hardly news to those who actually pay attention
@@buddywilliams5650
I have to assume that the intrusion of corporate america into the art of music, has a variety of consequences. one of which is that some artists are quite wealthy but the downside is that there is probably a lot of pressure to "make money" and a variety of marketing ploys to do that- among which are appearances for money, which do not involve actually performing.
@@broeheem2804
thank you for that background.
Praise you Science the power of the internet! Awesome to hear.
This. Precisely this!
Agreed
Well said.
Exactly. Short sighted. Get with the times or get out of the way.
just some guy,... i am subscribed to you!,..cool to see you in beato's comments.. do you do music at all? i would love to hear it if you do
In the History Of The Eagles, Glenn pointed out how their popularity grew when they broke up in 1980 because of the popularity of classic rock radio, you would think that the idea of introducing new generations of people to old music via a new format would be something they would all understand.
""""the long run """,,,,,my intro to the eagles..... 1980
There you go!
Exactly. It's free publicity. What is wrong with these people??
I’ve done the same thing many times myself.
And to think of that payroll. 60 people to pay? How could that be worth it?
I'll help Henley for free - never listen to anything he played on again.
Picking up pennies on the railway track as the (super fast) train approached.

I’m convinced if Don Henley walked into a restaurant or a pub and heard a starving artist play an Eagles tune he would sue them.
OK, this wins the ‘Good Comment Man’ seal of approval.
Henley is talented, but a dickhead
I would like Don Henley to know that I attended his concert in Philly in '89, but I didn't pay to get in.

I enjoyed the list too and made some suggestions to debut albums that I think are good to great
THe irony here is that Rick’s videos give all credit and respect to the artist whose music is featured.
So true, I recently started listening to Korn - who i never cared about before - because of one of Ricks videos.
And because of rick's insights, they will have an even better story to tell when they are listening to it with friends.
The "Beato Exception" is a great idea!!
Exactly what I was going to post !
So if not for Rick you wouldn't' know about Don Henley's music? I guarantee and I mean I guarantee if you wrote music and someone wanted to use that bit of music for their purpose without compensating you you would be outraged as anyone should.

In many ways, you help promote the music they are "protecting ". Keep up the good fight. We support you.
Right. There is an exception I law. Fair use. It’s the owners that are abusing the weakness of the platforms in defending legal fair use.
You re absolutely right josh. That would make sense.
I agree that educators should be exempted. But I thought fair use was supposed to cover that.

Yup. I'd like to see that.
The record labels will be like, "Aargh, we can't block this, someone else already did. WE FEEL ANGRY."
Well said
You can tell Rick really is all about the music. He's so upset, frothing at the mouth, but when it comes to music history, songwriting, etc., as angry as he is, he still gives Henley his props.

@@killaken2000 you could have just stopped at " kids don't think" and would have been even more correct !
While watching this, I was thinking, "These TH-camrs are kinda like today's version of the old radio DJs, back when Top-40 radio was how you heard about new music."
The record companies would send tons of records to the Top-40 stations, hoping that their records would be the ones selected by the DJs to be played.

I was big into industrial club and found DJ Flax on here which has been awesome since back in the day you had to wait to ask the dj what he was playing song before last. Thank you for all you do, Rick. A couple of thoughts after watching this:
-- Where is Don Henley getting those numbers?
Damn, that was inspiring! Well said too!
Rick, hope you take this to heart.

100% Agree with this
Where is Don Henley getting those numbers, indeed!
Great...
That is actually Mike Campbell from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers that wrote that riff and plays on the record.

Ok. Now to be serious. Every time we hear one of your treatments of a song you help us find things that we didn’t hear before. It makes the song better. Makes us appreciate it more. How can that not be a good thing for the artist?...
Thanks for what you do.
Those that block are analogous to the goon squad mentality, "Shoot first and don't ask any questions". 😑😑😑
Yup
People like Henley don't understand that TH-cam is a new form radio, where kids discover new songs and genres that they like. If they banish their own music from the public eye then they're destined to fade into obscurity.
Zappa had it right about Henley a long time ago-he was the death of rock & roll

Solution: Take all the Eagles content off youtube and other media. See how popular the Eagles will be then.
From what I understand Joe Walsh and Don Felder are pretty cool. It's Henley who can't get along with anyone.
@@conniethesconnie
I was always on Don Felder's side in the whole Eagles law suit.
You won't see Randy Meisner or Bernie Leadon at the hearing.

Agreed mate!!! Some of the music that I love to listen now-a-days I found in the "what makes this song great"....
Agreed ! Rick does top quality education.
What Henley fails to recognize or acknowledge is that when someone like Rick makes a video about an Eagles song, the Eagles get more publicity and get more airtime on Spotify/Pandora etc and income.
I think he realizes that,he's just an ass...lol
Exactly! New followers ~ the lot. Roger Hodgson behaves in a similar way about "his" Supertramp songs.
The Eagles need little or no advertising! That is why all of you want to do covers of them.
Interesting
Sorry to be the one to tell you this.............Elvis is dead.

So let’s get this straight: you have given me 9 seconds of their album free of charge? That’s brilliant! I don’t have to buy the album any more because I can just keep playing my free 9 seconds of it on your channel! Yay!
@Buck The Banjo Player So people go and listen to the rest of it.
Buck The Banjo Player oh you got us there.

These artists should be paying Rick for the publicity.
Sadly it's not even the artists but the corporations that own the rights to music which they didn't even create ... most artists would probably be cool with it ...
yeah especially the washed up ones lol

I'd bet you were watching a demonetized version - meaning KC is getting the money for plays.

Im a metalhead and I love the Chainsmokers now. Go figure.
Playing 9 seconds of a song AND RECOMMENDING IT is free advertisement for the artist.
Exactly how many people even know about King Crimson? Utter stupidity to block it.
That is an interesting but true way to look at this, maybe all these TH-camrs should start sending the labels bills for the promotion
what gets me is if you made fun of the song for 9 seconds your good......the whole parody law makes this look so stupid.
And telling the world how great it is would be a "tribute" so it's absolutely "fair use"!
@@touchcircle22 Nope, parodies aren't fair use
They'll get over it.
yes exactly
EXACTLY my thought.
Another reason why Rock is dead. Old, stingy, corporate, out of touch.
Yeah it’s sad how out of touch they are
Well you partly have to blame the great classic rock artists we love so much.
@@jamescuttsmusicjcm5013 It's because these old artists have lost their creative touch. Maybe it's time to put them to pasture.
@@jamescuttsmusicjcm5013 - Hey I agree with you man, but that's not exactly how I mean it. New and accessible by their standards, sticking to their style and experiences in life but exploring new territory, surprising the old generation and attracting the new generation. And you are a great teacher. A very generous giver of your talent your knowledge of theory. OF ALL THINGS MUSIC!!!

I sincerely appreciate this video clearly explaining a very frustrating situation for all of us.
Make videos and exclude the blockers. "Top 10 guitar solos by nonblockers."
Heck yeah!! 🤘🏼
But then it’s not a genuine list unfortunately
Sad to see such a talented Giant prove to his own fans that Don Felder was correct about the greed.
It's one of those 60 Don is talking about :(
There is no defense against false claims, the appeal system is broken because the appeal goes to the claimant, not to a fair third party, nobody wants to bother with false claims
That's just sooooo petty... I would feel honored if people put in time to do covers of my songs.
@@AngryLeaf5 some other favorite content creators have had that happen to them, it's crap
Don't forget about Jimi Hendrix's ADOPTED sister that has control of his estate, and has a stranglehold on all of his music.
