@@mikesunboxing How is it with a Ryzen 5 5600G. This APU game along with Gen 4 Ryzen series CPU's but as i see is based on Gen 3, so shouldn't it be fine out of the box?
I got it last year after noticing it's basically a cheaper, more boring-looking B450 Tomahawk Max. Paired it with a 1600AF, RX570 8GB and 16GB of DDR4 3200mhz and all worked well out of the box and even managed to push the CPU to 3.8ghz at 1.3V with a custom tower cooler. I've never seen the VRM temp go over 67C even on hot summer days during OCCT which is amazing. I'm very happy with it overall, tho it has one big flaw which is the on-board audio. I have some 24 Ohm Sony headphones and they simply don't get loud enough for my liking. Looking to buy a USB or PCI-E sound card simply because of that. This won't be a problem for lower impedance headphones as my other smaller headphones all get loud enough. Very solid board for the price and the lack of RGB stuff is actually a bonus for me as I prefer the sleeper look.

Juuuust in case someone has this board and wants to boost the system with a 5800x3D: I have it (+ 6700XT GPU) and it works flawlessly with the latest bios version. Yes the VRM is fairly budget but its really good for what it is and if I run a stresstest on all 8 cores the "system" (HW monitor) still stays cool at around 40°C maximum (if thats the correct one to look at, the rest is even cooler). But I gotta say my old big tower has a very good air flow. For gaming its totally fine anyways, since only 1-2 cores are used in probably 99,99% of all games. My 2x8GB RAMs run at 3600mhz on XMP profile 1 without any issues whatsoever. So it works perfectly fine with the 5800x3D. If there was a significant performance boost from pcie3 (b450) to pcie4 (b550) I would switch to a b550 board, but since there isnt, I stick to this very stable and durable budget board 😉
I use this non max variant for my rig with ryzen 5 2600 in it. And it handle the undervolt and mild overclock so well, also oc ram with xmp and get from 3000mhz to 3200mhz is so easy.

hello :) great job on the review, very detailed and useful, i have only one question, i have the msi b450-a pro (non max version) and i am planning on upgrading my cpu, currently i'm between the 5600x and 5800x, and i'm leaning towards the 5800x for productivity reasons (editing photos/videos, adobe premier etc. ). you mentioned that your limit on this MAX version would be the 3900x, do you think i would be safe with the 5800x? more specifically, are the VRM's good enough for it? heard in many places that it is a hot cpu, and i'm afraid of it being throttled, also, not planning to overclock, strictly stock speeds. thanks and have a wonderful day :)

dear mike.. i want to ask your opinion regarding pin on mobos.. Does motherboard with 4 pin power considered less stable/less superior/less durable compare than motherboard with 8pin??
So i want to build my first pc an i've already bought this motherboard. i concider buying a Corsair 275R airflow PC Cace which comes with 3 pre installed fans. i would also like to buy one rgb ring fan and place it to the rear of the case. Would this be possible? Will the cable of the fan reach the connector of the motherboard and be compatible? Should it be 3 or 4 pin? And if so what fan would you recommend me. I think one rgb ring fan is enough for my taste.

Good afternoon... Want to ask the recommended mobo for amd Rzyen 5 4600g, between MSI B450 A Pro Max, Asus Tuf gaming b450, and asrok b450m steel legend. Thank you 🙏.
I hope that helps people who want to try a set up with similar builds: I decided to upgrade my over 10 year old system with this board, a ryzen 5 5600g CPU(+ onboard GPU) and suitable DDR4 RAMs. Since it wouldnt identify the CPU out of the box it needed to be updated. So I flashed it with an old USB 2.0 stick formated in FAT32 with the newest 7B86vMF bios update (no beta). It worked out perfectly, I just had to change some basic settings in the bios for it to start windows. The only thing is that the RAMs are downgraded to 2667 MHZ instead of 3600MHZ (I think the board only supports up to 3200, not 100% sure tho). I wonder what setting I could try to make it work at 3200MHZ since it doesnt run stabily under 3D conditions with the settings I tried..All in all its a great and fairly cheap upgrade for me and I can still buy a better graphics card in the future when I need to.
It's December 2023 and I was looking for a faster second video editing system with pretty much the same software configuration as my current 2016 system running Windows 7. This answers right away my choice for this MSI B450 board as it is one of the few boards still for sale that supports Windows 7 (MSI still has W7 drivers for it available for download). I picked up a new board for just over 60 euros, along with a 2nd hand Ryzen 7, 2700x processor and a GTX-1070. It may not sound very fast these days, but it is a good deal faster than my current system, which is a MSI 17OA PC MATE with an i5-6400 and a GT-730. So in cases such as these, the B450 is still worth it, even in 2023 and I plan to use it for several more years to come.

Great video, as someone with a lower end board (b450 Tomahawk max + r5 3600) i can see that is not quite as good but the price makes up for it, the Tom Max is still around £90 new!!
the tom max is still holding on to that price tag
hello :) great job on the review, very detailed and useful, i have only one question, i have the msi b450-a pro (non max version) and i am planning on upgrading my cpu, currently i'm between the 5600x and 5800x, and i'm leaning towards the 5800x for productivity reasons (editing photos/videos, adobe premier etc. ). you mentioned that your limit on this MAX version would be the 3900x, do you think i would be safe with the 5800x? more specifically, are the VRM's good enough for it? heard in many places that it is a hot cpu, and i'm afraid of it being throttled, also, not planning to overclock, strictly stock speeds. thanks and have a wonderful day :)
the no max board with good cooling should be okay i think
@@mikesunboxing it works with the max version too?
Wich would you pick? The Asus Tuff b450 plus gaming or this one? (just based on performance not slots)
msi has better vrm so will be better for performance
@@mikesunboxing Thx buddy:)
hey mike, awesome review as always and not so "mainstream"... its always nice to know of cheaper options rather than the high end stuff all other youtubers suggest... would so just get on of these to go with my msi a320m a proMAX... lol actually like the brown to it and don't care for wifi and blue tooth... real gamers don't use wifi :P
Right on!
Sorry kind of new to this stuff. Does this motherboard have WiFi capabilities or will I need a WiFi adapter for my PC?
yes ti will need a wifi adaptor
dear mike.. i want to ask your opinion regarding pin on mobos.. Does motherboard with 4 pin power considered less stable/less superior/less durable compare than motherboard with 8pin??
Yes that is mostly right.

Thank you 🙏.
i would probably go with steel legend

what type of ssd m.2 did this motherboard using? NVME or sata?
nvme gen3 x4
I'm thinking of buying this motherboard for my Ryzen 5 3500x processor. Your suggestions?
i would try to go b550 but this works also
I hope that helps people who want to try a set up with similar builds: I decided to upgrade my over 10 year old system with this board, a ryzen 5 5600g CPU(+ onboard GPU) and suitable DDR4 RAMs.
I wonder what setting I could try to make it work at 3200MHZ since it doesnt run stabily under 3D conditions with the settings I tried..All in all its a great and fairly cheap upgrade for me and I can still buy a better graphics card in the future when I need to.
thanks for the detailed info
@@mikesunboxing Nah, thank YOU for the great reviews and explanations, cheers
Just install the latest one OR sequence one by one from old BIOS version until the latest one??
do you have a guide on how to flash this motherboard?

So in cases such as these, the B450 is still worth it, even in 2023 and I plan to use it for several more years to come.
hope it serves you well
@@mikesunboxing I think it will. This board is now rapidly going out of stock, but there is an alternative with the same chipset, the Gigabyte AORUS Elite V2. Anyone still interested in these boards shouldn't wait too long if you want a new one.
Just managed to pick up one of these for £37 on ebay. Needed a new slot for another GPU and upgraded to the ryzen 5 3600 which the old board didn't get along with. Great video, considering myself very lucky for the steal price.
Nice one!
How do you connect it to the internet?
MSI AMD B550 A Pro did very good on hardware unboxed temp test even on R9 3950x Blender test. The MSI AMD B450 A Pro Max vrm so much less good?
yeah the B450 ranges all had low count VRMs so struggle with multicore setups
@@mikesunboxing I just got the MSI AMD B450 A Pro Max for $45 so I could not resist it. I consider putting a r5 5600G on it instead of r7 5700G. I got a great deal on a corsair RM 850 and Corsair 100R case $80 so even it was not the plan when planning the build this will be very budget build!!

Mike, I just bought one of these off of Ebay for about $25.00US used, sold as is... I'm finding a lot of these boards are purchased by people who don't know how to PROPERLY build a computer and they seel these board as damaged when in fact they aren't... Most of the time its the user who is trying to put in a unsupported processor, or memory... or not installing the unit right.... Finding good deals on someone elses mess.... easy way to build a inexpensive computer when you can get the motherboard for a steal!
Yeah I did go through a stage of looking for “dead” boards to buy cheaply but was getting outbid a lot, and there were limits to what money I would risk
@@mikesunboxing I always do the "Buy Now" option, its a gamble, but most of the time these boards work fine once you get the bios updated and the right processor. I'm hoping this gamble pays off!
