The key advantage of the Kobalt QuietTech compressor is in the name. It is bloomin' quiet! I was looking at the McGraw, bought one of the Menard's 15gal compressors that was 225psi and supposedly only 78dB, and returned it to get the Kobalt since I keep the compressor in the same area I work on cars. The difference in volume is amazing! I can carry on a conversation in a normal voice while standing right next to the compressor. Plus, it has a 3-year warranty, and 4.5scfm actually works fine for my small-scale sand blaster.
Hey Red Beared I work at a HFT and we recently got our display for the 27 gallon. My manger hooked it up so we could hear it and despite being a bit noisy me and him was still able to hold a conversation right beside it. It was built just as well as the smaller units and had some weight to it but nothing to crazy.
Not trying to beat a dead horse here (too late!) lol, but I recently bought that quiet Kobalt and gave away my crazy noisy 21 Gallon Central Pneumatic. Hands down, this will end up being the best purchase I made this year. This Kobalt is crazy quiet, I tested mine and it runs at around 65 dBA's, I can actually have a normal conversion in the same room with it on. I will never buy another one that's putting out over 70 dBA's. Don't forget, we're not the only one exposed to all that noise. And most likely, we're the only one wearing ear protection.
I have a 45 year old 2 gallon Campbell hausfeld that still runs like a champ also have a 46 year old 25 gallon Campbell hausfeld that works great still
I just purchased this on 4/20. I Let it set vertical for 24 hours before I even calibrated the unit. Step one was to open the valve and run it for 30 min. Then shut the valve turn compressor back on it takes a good ten min before it hits 200 psi slightly loud but it’s what to expect. I did air my truck tires up and the unit kicked off on the third tire. After use release the air pressure pin and valve. Over all the fortress is a beast i would recommend it.
I've had the 21 gallon Central Pneumatic for at least 5 years. Overall, not a bad air compressor for my needs, however, you've convinced me it may be time for an upgrade!
I had absolute horrible luck with that model. Had 2 of them, and they both failed without much use. Both in the same fashion, it didnt break completely, but it would slowly degrade in performance until it would only reach 90 psi, and never shut off. The 29 gallon belt drive model however is much better. Have had that one for 3 years heavy use with no problems.
@@mikeg3529 I also have the Central Pneumatic. The first one did not work at all out of the box. Brought it back and got another one, and it failed after one or two uses. I brought THAT one back, and the third one has lasted me more than five years. They made me buy a new service contract each time. I wasn't so happy about that but I am glad I did. The compressor has been fine for my DIY needs.
Just picked up the Fortress 6 gallon pancake compressor. Can't say that I'm all that impressed. It's LOUD, it runs a lot and takes quite some time to (re)fill. Worst thing about HF is only offering a 90-day warranty.
One thing to keep in mind when comparing to the Dewalt is the warranty. Dewalt offers a standard 1yr, HF is 90 days, granted HF offers their extended warranty at an additional cost, but that brings the bottom line much closer. Another Great video, keep it up, and Thank you!
I really wanted to buy this air compressor. Especially after watching your review on the Hercules miter saw and buying one. I also looked into the Husky 30 gallon and bought mine for $293.81 with veterans discount. The Husky came with a 2 year standard warranty and sound pretty quiet. I used my savings to buy an air hose. I'm looking forward to the Hercules miter saw stand aswell.
There is a $399 coupon for the fortress compressor right now. I looked at a few compressors including the cobalt yesterday. Build quality appears great for both but going to pick up the fortress today for the extra CFM.
I dont think they will do that because they specialize in direct drive quiet compressors and above 30 gal you kinda have to have belt driven compressor
I noticed that the drain ball valve they have on the bottom of the compressor the knob extends beyond the valve so when you tip the compressor to move it, it could rub on the knob or possible get broken. I replaced mine with a different one so that doesn't do that it could never get broken, just a little preventative maintenance. I am now wondering how you would install a pressure regulator to catch any water before it gets to any of my air tools before using them, any ideas? Please post here, thanks. They have a coupon good until this Saturday the 31st for eighty dollars off the store price of 429.00 down to 349.00, what a deal!
I have a CH air compressor and it has been the worst purchase I have ever made at Lowe's. It is loud, it takes forever to get to pressure, and I have had to replace the pressure switch twice in it and it is already starting to act up again. Won't turn on, and then when it does it will get to pressure and then not kick on when the pressure drops below the set tool pressure. I am definitely going to replace it with this one or the new Quiet version Fortress that only goes up to 175 psi. I have considered an oil two-stage but I don't really need it to run nailers and a few air tools I use to take up tiles. My CH has been a nightmare but I have had it and nursed it along for 6 years so it is going to the big old dump soon.
You are a check out our TMC terminal in Brownsburg Indiana that shop they try to keep it like a surgical environment as soon as the truck goes out they clean the floor if I stop in for oil and still a little bit it gets cleaned up immediately
I'll just use my 20lbs c02 tank. $120 for the tank from the air gas store and $30 to charge it. Basically costs me $20 per year to run all the tools I need and air up the tires I need... and it's quiet. That means it'll take me 15 years of co2 usage to equal the price of this compressor. Do you think it'll last 15 years without any service?
I picked up today, $449.99 joined track club for 29.99 and got 15% off ($67.50). Subtotal 412.48 without tax. I was expecting to pay full price. I am very happy with it!

just looked online and they have it for like $459. I just got the 20 gal. Mcgraw compressor. so I am happy and I am sure that will be good enough for me. I also have the 3 gal. central pneumatic tube compressor. great for tires and just blowing things out. :)
It's worth it. I picked up the 2 gallon the last parking lot sale. The duel motors that keep it quiet also cause it to fill faster. I thought 2 gallons wouldn't be enough for my regular needs but it can pretty much keep up with my old Craftsman 10 gallon oil less compressor. Plus it's much quieter.
@@WolfsHaven I got a chance to play with the 2 gallon when I visited the Bear and was blown away about how quiet it really is in real life in comparison to hearing it on a video.
IDK when this will come out in the stores. We usually have to make room for display model before release, but have not yet done that. Yesterday I did put out a new cosco 3 in 1 dolly, but made room for a 800lbs dolly and a 4 in 1 dolly.
I can check the one here in Reading for you if you want. I can get out there as soon as tomorrow. Its 5 minutes from my house. Just let me know, and I will go out and check for you.
@The Den Of Tools I'm just curious...No need to spoil anything. But, any luck with coming up with ideas for the Scientific Testing on the tekton 1/2" socket set?

I got full sets of wrenches in both sae and metric and some gearwrench, silly cheap. Ordered a bunch online as well. Duracraft has been good wrenches to modify for specific projects. I plan on putting these two sets in the service truck, much less tears shed if one gets lost.
I stopped in yesterday and managed to find some stuff I needed, and some I didn't haha! Lots of CR-V sockets still on the shelves for dirt cheap. Picked up 4-1/2" drive >1" sockets for less than a buck each OMG! Thanks Trevor Richards.
I could see buying the oi-less for the small ones that are quiet, but I don't see the point in buying this. Buy the oiled one, and spend the money you save by the noisy thing in a cabinet or something.
Mine only lasted 2 days. I tried to return and get full refund but they said theres a restock fee if it’s already opened. So, i replaced with the cheapest air compressor they had, did’nt open it and bring it back unopened and got the full refund😅
Not related to this product video, but to HF, I'm kicking myself for buying a new 8.5A Ridgid brand hammer drill from HomeDepot. At $120 I expected better, it was powerful enough to drill 32 holes for Tapcons to install hurricane panels for our bedroom window, but burnt out and literally caught fire on the last hole. I would have been better off with HF's Chicago Electric 6.5A drill. I got my money back on returning the dead drill to HD (and finished the job with my ancient B&D 3.5A drill). If I need to drill more holes in concrete for a project, I'll get the CE drill from HF. Now if HF ever puts one of their smaller compressors on a good coupon sale, I'll get one for the shed where we keep our bicycles, their tires always need topping up before riding.
So they don't mention if it has an aluminum tank, other than in they typo. I really hope it's aluminum, but I bet it isn't. I wish the amperage was a touch lower since my central pneumatic has trouble getting power sometimes. Just makes me wonder if I'd have trouble with this one too.
Hey bear, have you heard anything about the new Zurich zr15? I got the zr 13 because it was the top of the line they had but now they’ve got another one! I haven’t seen anything about it online so did my store spill the beans by mistake???
So after this review I concluded the top dog 120v Harbor freight air compressor is still the 29gal Central Pneumatic. Ohh and it cost less too. Hmmm go figure.
I’d love to see a comparison of this compressor versus the Kobalt Quiet Tech 26 gallon. I’m in the market for a mid range consumer level compressor. The Kobalt has slightly less CFM with a slightly higher HP. BUT the Kobalt has a 3 year limited warranty versus HF at 90 days. AND the Kobalt is $100 less ($299 vs $399). Is there any reason to consider this new compressor? Thoughts?
Sorry. Stopped video at 3:22 when I realized you were simply doing a review of an advertisement of a sight unseen product. At least make eyeball contact with what you review, Bear! Love you.
That Kobalt is less than 70 Db. Big difference between 78 Db and 70 Db. That's its biggest appeal. What difference does an extra 0.7 (or whatever it was) scfm really make anyway?
I'm intrigued by this compressor. Two big things I liked were the wheels and aluminum tank. Most compressors come with really cheap, terrible wheels. The aluminum tank speaks for itself. Like other products, I'd like to see a tear down. See what they did right and what they got wrong. It looks pretty solid, but just for the sake of being fair I'd like to see if this compressor has any obvious failure points.
*After years of hauling around a large,💫 **allabout.wiki/PORTER** heavy, loud dewalt air compressor (that ironically was advertised as quiet, supposedly 78dB), I bought this. Facepalm. While it is not ‘silent’, I find myself chuckling every time I use it, sparing all my neighbors the terror of my former compressor. I use for inflating tires, impact wrench, finish nailers. Absolutely love it. And I store it under the garage sink in a 24” cabinet. I paired with a coil 1/2”, instead of a my former 50’ 5/8” hose that I had to lug across the yard from the shed, unpleasantly uncoil.... this little guy is light and portable; just a joy. Impact wrench is still capable of easing lug bolts, flywheel bolts, crank pulleys... just allow for a tiny bit of recovery now and then.*
Disappointed. Has a few nice features, 200 psi, nice drain mount. But it's much louder and more expensive than the Kobalt. I'll be getting the Kobalt next time it goes on sale.
Bear your talking like you've had your hands on this already. Have you??? Your doing a great job to hype this up so it " flies off the shelves". I own several different compressors but only 1 central pnuematic which is the twin stack. It has and still serves me well for roof shingling and keeps up with 2 coil nailers easily. Picked it up a few years back when they would coupon them for $99. They havent done that in a long time now. Im hesitant to try a more expensive unit because the HF warranty of 90 days just doesnt do it for me. The Competitive models you mentioned all come with minimum 1 year warranty Fortress 90 day. 78db Dewalt 1 year 78db Cambell Hausfeld 1 year. db N/a Husky 2 year 78db Kobalt 3 year. 70db I know you can purchase a 1 year warranty on HF compressors and should but thats an added cost and you should automatically factor that into the pricing. I wouldn't drop 4 or 5 hundred on anything without some type of extended warranty. They do look nice though and will sell good once they prove themselves with some positive reviews.

Impact wrench is still capable of easing lug bolts, flywheel bolts, crank pulleys... just allow for a tiny bit of recovery now and then.*
Do you have any recommendations for gas powered air compressors that could run a 1 inch impact for a service truck
I would look at vmac units
@@juryrigjohn9697 thanks
jenny makes a decent one and ingersol rand also but they are expensive
Got the warranty too.
please review new husky 27 gal. 200 psi oil free portable vertical electric air compressor
Will these be available in a selection of colors? ;)
Ad price is at 399.99 thru 7/21
July is the third quarter.
Whats the duty cycle?
What is your Pinyan of Quincy compressor’s
Disappointed. Has a few nice features, 200 psi, nice drain mount. But it's much louder and more expensive than the Kobalt. I'll be getting the Kobalt next time it goes on sale.
baron24601 Lowes is about to start phasing out all kobalt items
it will be taken out of their stores soon
Date/Price for record's sake - 23-Jun-20, $369.99
It's a 5 gallon tank or a 27 gallon tank
The list price online is now $399.99
Bear your talking like you've had your hands on this already. The Competitive models you mentioned all come with minimum 1 year warranty
Fortress 90 day. 78db
Dewalt 1 year 78db
Cambell Hausfeld 1 year. db N/a
Husky 2 year 78db
Kobalt 3 year. 70db
I know you can purchase a 1 year warranty on HF compressors and should but thats an added cost and you should automatically factor that into the pricing. I wouldn't drop 4 or 5 hundred on anything without some type of extended warranty. They do look nice though and will sell good once they prove themselves with some positive reviews.
Got it for 300
Lucky
But bear, aren't we in the third quarter?
What line size is this
You can get a 33 gallon oil less compressor from craftsman for 350 dollers
I have that compressor and it's junk and the neighbors ask if I am running an airplane in my ramada~!!
@@RickaramaTrama-lc1ys what compressor is junk
I think they pulled it off their site now 🤔
Da Bear what's up hope all is well
'5 gallon tank"
When you cut and paste the specs from an existing product.....
1.6 HP?
At $349 now thru 10/31/2020 with the coupon.
On sale again thru end of January 2021 @ $349.99
It says it does 200psi, but it doesnt. It shuts off at 175.
Still piss poor scfm at 90 psi and that's all that matters
FLMAO! Red, Harbor freight just ripped this exact video as part of today's email Flyer!
They sometimes send me tools for review as do many other companies. Watch my video on their 12v line if you are worried about any bias.
The Den of Tools I'm not worried about bias, just pleasantly surprised of the video directly linked from their email electronic flyer.
200 psi!!! That can run a tire mount rig
