    The very next season, 1997 we won (by ourselves) with the show theme of Casablanca. For me, there’s just something magical to me about DCI back then. I would recommend the 1997 Blue Devils as a show for you to react to. Off topic, my fiancé and I are drinking water from from New Zealand called 1907. Delicious! Thanks again for all that you do!!

    My middle school director was a soloist for the blue devils a couple years before this in 1991. Best trumpet player I've ever heard. He passed away unexpectedly one day and the entire band, mostly myself, was crushed. That's why 1991 is my favorite BD show. It's not the most exciting but the fact he was in it convinces me enough it's the best

  • @samsignorelli
    @samsignorelli 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Actually, Blue Devils have placed lower than 5th (and that 5th was a one-off) only 2 times in their DCI competitive history...24th in 1973 (their very first trip) and 9th in 1974. Their AVERAGE placement is 3rd. They haven't been lower than 2nd since 2007....the single 5th place standing was back in 1991.

    Little fun fact for Courtney....at 4:52, you see that soprano with a ring over one of the glove fingers of his right hand. That's his championship ring from a prior season (probably 1994). It used to be a BD tradition to do that, but after a while it got a little obnoxious, due to the size of the rings and some people wearing three of them. They stopped doing it a few years ago.

    I was on tour with Crown in 1996. I saw this show for the first time (other than from the side) at Madison Wisconsin. It started pouring rain during the middle and they absolutely nailed it. Interesting note is the music from the closer is from the first Mission Impossible movie with Tom Cruise which I think came out that summer. The music is from the chase seen at the end with the high speed train and helicopter.

    95 Blue Devils Is DEFINITELY an intense and fast paced performance as is 99 Cadets and 2001 Cavaliers. The 90’s era of drum corps definitely saw a trend with corps putting together high velocity drill and music on the field.

  • @dougSS24

    Blue Devils also might have an advantage over other corps. A lot of people will join/audition to Blue Devils for their final year or last couple years before they age out. I don’t blame them though as you get to work with an incredible staff and your guaranteed top 2 placement.

  • @aubreyricher9827
    @aubreyricher9827 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I love how baffled you are by how they can remember everything they're doing, lol. Literally for almost 4 months, from morning to night they're living and breathing this 12 minutes worth of a show. The music is given even earlier and performers will have that memorized before they start learning drill. Drill is broken up into "sets" and drill actually is fairly easy to learn in the beginning because of how well the drill and music play off each other, and it's also a lot simpler to start and things continue to get added as the season goes on, and since everything is practiced over and over and over and over and over and over and over again, it's pretty easy to continue adding all the complex movements and remember it, lol.
    I think it'd be really cool if we could find you two different shows from the same corp in the same year, one of one of their first shows or run throughs and compared it to their finals performance and you'll see almost a completely different show just by how much was added or changed and yet.....it's still the same show, lol.

      That's the back field conductor. There is 1 main conductor on the 50 yard line and then 1 or 2 other conductors that move around to wherever is needed. Once the corps finishes playing backfield, they don't need a conductor there anymore so he goes to the front. Looks strange having him cut through the center of the field though. With nearly 200 comments, someone has probably noted this, but the last time that the Blue Devils placed lower than 5th place was 1974. Since 1974, the Blue Devils placed 5th one time, 4th six times, 3rd eight times, 2nd eleven times, and 1st nineteen times. Beginning with the 2007 season, the Blue Devils have not placed lower than 2nd - that’s thirteen consecutive seasons of finishing in either 1st or 2nd place. The Blue Devils have the most 1st place and the most 2nd place finishes in DCI history.

    Blue devils are none as the most decorative corps of drum corps. You have to be big brained to understand there shows 😂 I say that because not many ppl get there shows but I never have a problem understanding it. But decorative means blue devils have a style like no other corps. Coming up with sm the most wacky ideas ever and make it work! If you wanna see more things with sprinting... blue devils 2009 “1930”

Just thought theres a whole world out there playing the game and some of the footage is amazing. Best regards Bradley from the uk
