Omid Djalili reads a funny letter Wimbledon FC wrote about Gary Lineker

- In a Radio Times article in 1996, Gary Lineker called Vinne Jones a "self-hyped personality who isn't a good player," then called Alex Ferguson a “strange bloke," and, finally, called Paul Gascoigne a "naughty schoolboy". Wimbledon Football Club responded immediately on behalf of all three by faxing the following letter to the offices of the country’s newspapers.
Comedian and actor Omid Djalili joined us at Letters Live at London's Union Chapel back in 2020 to give a hilarious reading of this letter. Enjoy! - บันเทิง

He's such a great talent! I wish we saw more of him, especially in stand up, that's where he really shines!
I've loved Omid since I first saw him about two decades ago! He's such a hugely underrated comedian. Watching this reminds me, once again, that we do not see him as often as we should on TV! That Vinny Jones bit at the end had just the right amount of sting! And, as a pseudo-Cockney myself, I can say he did us proud with the accent!

I first saw Omid Djalili on TV some years ago doing stand-up. If I remember rightly I had missed the beginning of his set and he was speaking in an Iranian accent so I thought that was his natural speaking voice. He was funny, but then suddenly he said in a pure English accent “Oh I really can’t carry on with this anymore!” I burst out laughing and have been a fan ever since. The letter which he read in his self-confessed middle class/Cockney
accent was brilliant and I agree with him about his favourite part of it referencing Des Lynam! I don’t know how long ago this letter was written (even I know that Wimbledon FC no longer exists) but it suggests some foresight on the part of the writers!!!😆😆😆
Sounds like a fair description of Lineker. Not sure about the description of the BBC though 😂

@alanrogers7090 Aahhh 😊 bought alot of pleasure to our lives did Bob Hoskins. I might even have to dig him out playing opposite Cher! in the Mermaids film. Loved him as the theatre impresario during WW2 with Judy Dench. And probably lots more me old brain has since tipped out.

What engraving is censored/hidden on the front of the podium?
It's the pulpit of Union Chapel, London: each face has a large diamond shaped field on which nothing is written. Whether this was designed purposely or whether something was intended to be inscribed, I have no idea, but there is actually nothing there. I think it's just a trick of the lighting which makes it look as though something has been pixellated out.

The best thing that could happen to Linekar is to end up spending some quality time in a dark alley with a Vinnie Jones character.
