    When i was a kid my family had a 1962 Chevrolet Bel Air Sedan. I was 8yo at the time and we would load the car up in the summer to go camping. Every time i see one of those at a car show it brings back good memories. Your 60 Biscayne is a beautiful car.

    That's a pretty Biscayne. I love the 59's and 60's with fins.

    I did a valve job on one of these in my HS auto shop class. It was a teacher's car. The timing was hard to set since the mark is on the flywheel. Was a fun project. Easy to work on.

    In Canada, the Biscayne was called a Pontiac Stratochief, with a 261 c.i.d, (a bored out 235) an not a wide tracking Catalina.

    Always be sure that the insert tabs are on the cam side of the crank and the same side of the rod. And yes the rod and cap journal hole has to be perfectly round so as to not bind and to carry proper oil pressure. Those were beautiful cars. And the 235 was a very good motor for the time.

      I replaced the #1 rod and cap to be sure- along with the crank and bearings.

    Stuff happens. Good for you for getting back in there and recognizing the error. The only people that never fail, are those who never try anything. Nice car BTW.

    Shouldn't the notches for the rod bearing tangs be on the same sides of the rod? That would be the obvious thing to look at to be sure rod caps aren't reversed.

    I never rely on the stampings always look at the Bering tabs to tabs

    Are the rods installed in correctly ,I seem to remember tabs towards the cam?Yea ,I hear that baby thrashing,even at the back of the car,undercoat (inside)of the valve cover, takes away lots noise.! Well wishes to you and that (suffering) 6 banger.Blood,sweat and tears make it worthwhile sometimes!!!

      Someone put it back that way- doing the crank and bearings- and REPLACING the #1 rod was the fix.

    Maybe I don't need to tell you but the locating tabs both go on the same side. And of course make sure you have side clearance. And don't go by some intermediary mechanics work. And didn't you have a machine shop recon or check the rods for size? They should have caught that and redone the markings and/or told you about it.Beautiful car

    How on earth did you miss lining up the insert(bearing tabs) despite the fact one was stamped on the wrong side? Also,tho having inserts some 235's had shims also,though not sure about the 250 cu inch

    • @kirks1959
      @kirks1959  ปีที่แล้ว

      No shims on that one- pre 1958

    • @frankwurth5375
      @frankwurth5375 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      shims were only on the poured babbit / dipper bearing motors back in the late 40 and early 50s.

      True, and I believe they offered an insert type bearing for overhauls. Not full pressure till 1953 Powerglide and all 235's afterward.@@frankwurth5375

    What a nice car. If I where to get another classic car someday, that's what I'd want, a nice smooth, quiet straight six model. Speaking for myself, I would not prefer a V8 in it.

      Although many of these were sold with the 235 (and often with 3 on the tree) the majority came with the 283 V8 and Powerglide.

    Running too cold, as far as the temp gauge goes. Should be happy with a 180 thermostat in any weather.

      Its the sending unit- my temp gun says 185 at the goose neck when normal.
