That idea of there being a second mana disaster at the most inopportune time due to Nanahoshi not giving a flying FUUUCK about this world was actually brilliant.
The parallels between that ending scene with Rudy waking up and ending of S1 with Eris leaving is BEAUTIFUL. He wakes up the same way after the doing the deed both times, looks around at everyone else’s and finally discovers both girls missing. The first indication of this was something red! He first found the hair of Eris and he first looked at the blood stain in the sheets from Sylphie, reminding him of what happened last time. Eris just up and left, and how they portrayed Rudy think “It’s happened again hasn’t it…” was amazing imo! But this time, the girl (Sylphie) returns and it gives Rudy that “okay it hasn’t happened again!”, making him just starting crying, etc. etc. Such a beautiful scene and the parallels between those two scenes are just amazing imo!
This way it works brilliantly in the anime. His anxiety is palpable and her return showed beyond a shadow of a doubt that this time things are different. In the book it's wholly different: he wakes up staring at the bottom of the top bunk and reminisces about the previous night and how he'd gone full jackhammer on Sylphy, fearing he'd been an even worse lover than last time over. The night with Eris had him run out of steam before her, while his night with Sylphy had him addled to the point of ignoring her comfort. He was overcome by anxiety over his behavior and by fear that he might've scared her off. Then he turns his head and sees her staring at him with a bashful smile. After brushing her hair to confirm she wasn't a hallucination, he groped her and got excited again over it, then moved to lock her in a tight embrace and thanked her with tears in his eyes. Her being there in the morning was what cured his depression and the grope proved the physical symptoms of that depression were gone.
@@Tounushi The worst part is: Eris didn't leave because of anything he did, but because she really thinks he's too good for her and wants to get better, but she's not good with words so what she said messed with his head. The last time we saw her, all she could do was talk about how amazing she thought he was and how she would become someone worthy of him, she would've been horrified if she knew how her awkward handling impacted him. But Sylphy is still best girl.
Shockingly common reaction isn't it? Though I'd read the LN so I don't know for sure how I'd have responded to just this scene, we are missing a fair amount of inner monologue.
Reminder that Fitz fended off assassins for six years and has killed an unknown number of people in that duty. Rudy couldn't bring himself to even kill the slave traders in the middle of their raid.
@@fcgHenden I'd go further: Rudy has to work extra hard to NOT kill people with some of his spells, cos they absolutely would if he didn't dial them back.
Reminder we've seen Eris kill her first humans and she almost added Paul to the list that same day. Roxy's also killed people. Bandits and more scrupleless adventures had thought she's just a vulnerable young girl. She's lethally fended off kidnappers and adventurers who'd tried to take her quest rewards or her innocence.
21:08 I think i relate to this feeling like i was so caught up that they are finally have "SEGGGSSSS LEZGOO!!" but then I realize that's not the goal, that's not what this arc trying to tell, and just like that my eyes was flooded with tears. What a beautiful story 👏
i would give some credit to the director, what we are seeing are the director's interpretation of the source material. and thank god, Japanese anime directors have a lots of love and respect to the source materials.
Even as a source reader I was not impressed by the adaptation of this episode initially. But reaction from Ben and Anna told me it was damn well directed. Very deep understanding and care went into this episode
@@aeonc1107as a fellow source reader, I'm just curious what you think couldve been done better. No judgement at all, I just personally thought it was exactly how the LN made me picture it. Down to the details of the scenery. Only difference was Sylphie not being next to rudy when he woke up, but the anime had to do it that way. In the LN they had ample details and monologues explaining exactly what it was psychologically that Rudy was dealing with. The anime didn't get that detailed with it, so to show the actual trauma and depression the Eris situation instilled in Rudy, they made almost a mirror image of the morning after he and Eris slept together, except Sylphy came back. It was the perfect way they could have done it in the anime, in my opinion
Thisshow never fails to squeeze out emotions on people watching it. I was also very uncomfortable and was scared how they'll handle this scenes, thankfully it's very tastefully done. It really is a big difference reading something and seeing it in action.
We're both gonna look forward to the next cour, then. I wonder if Nanahoshi's scene will sound like Takina from Lycoris Recoil, since they share the same VA. Also her shitting on Rudeus over the lack of soundproofing has to be referenced...
@Ben (I don't know if you ever read the comments in your TH-cam postings, but if you do): Glad you folks noticed the callback to the aphrodisiac from Season 1. Have you noticed though, how this series also twists the viewers perspectives/opinions about things? In the first season, when this aphrodisiac is first introduced, just about everyone reacted with "ewww! Why are you trying to sell something like this to a 5/6 year old?" But now, we see that it was introduced in the story to bring it back here and it has a nostalgic air about it (happier & simpler times, a more lewd Rudy, and Eris is involved). In a similar way, this series keeps changing our perspective about Paul. Also, when Soldat was first introduced a lot of people didn't like him, but then he becomes the chad. Or initially people saw Elinalise as a slut, but now she's become a sympathetic character. This series has even turned a pair of pilfered panties into a holy relic! 🤣 As you & Anna have mentioned, this series keeps doing things you don't expect and takes us in directions we had not considered. This is one of the reasons why I love Mushoku Tensei (the series and not just the anime)! 💛
Just had a terrible thought (I'm not a novel reader): Roxy and co have gone off to a big labyrinth city to find Zenith. Long ago (in the Lost Connections episode) Roxy told Erinalise that her fantasy was getting into trouble in a labyrinth and being rescued by a handsome, kind adventurer....
No spoilers, just an explanation of something that was briefly covered in the show but not made super clear why. Rudy has no immediate plans of going off to look for Zenith. The reason he’s stayed in the north at all, even after learning about her whereabouts, is because there is no reason for him to go. It’s a 1-2 year trip to Rapan and Roxy had a 2 year lead on him to find Paul and rally support to venture there and find her. Even if he had left as soon as Elinalise found him, he had pretty much 0% chance of getting there before she was already secured. Him running off to join them would just make any attempts to contact him at his last known location miss completely. His declaration to Ariel at the end of this episode is that he doesn’t want to leave Ranoa until he receives word of her safety, not that he plans on leaving.
I think they will skip a lot of things, where LN readers want this part 1 being slower and have more stuffs, anime watcher wants it to be faster and get into action more.
I think a lot of people miss an extra layer about Rudeus marrying Sylphy. I certainly did for a few years. Rudeus considers marrying Sylphy to be the obvious choice, since he'd deflowered her. Ariel and Luke would've expected something else, such as Rudeus becoming her guardian, or taking her as a mistress or concubine. Despite lacking titles, territory, or inheritance, Rudeus is still in the nobility by virtue of his pedigree. Sylphy is a commoner. By marrying her, he's raising her to nobility with that announcement and Ariel blesses this by granting her his surname. Paul didn't care much for the stuffy nonsense and looked forward to Rudeus getting married with Sylphy. It doesn't look like he let go of this even when Rudeus' betrothal to Eris was being orchestrated by Philip. So that egalitarian mindset was set with Rudeus on top of his 21st century sensibilities.
A lot of people seem to think this little arc is too slow and lacks plot, but this is really the board being set. Princess Ariel does have her motives, but Sylphie is her friend. Sylphie is powerful in her own right, but now her personal bodyguard is married to Rudeus 'Quagmire' Greyrat, a powerful mage who is a noble, who rolls with the Shirone Prince Zanoba the Decapitator Prince, Linia and Pursenia royalty of the Doldia and Dodoldia beast clans, chills with the Immortal Demon King Badigadi (fiancé of Demon Empress Kishirika), pupil to the King class water mage Roxy Megurdia, Nanahoshi the girl out of space time, and many others to be revealed. There will be more slice of life, action, and drama elements. This is the long game that seeks massive pay-offs in a great story. As a LN reader, we're just getting started. Nothing down the road means anything if the road hasn't already been built.
you are the first reaction channel that i actually subscribe to it. great respect on every anime, with long and deep discussion, best reaction channel ever that definitely worth subscribing.
Thank you very much for all the Mushoku Tensei reactions! I'm going to miss these six months, so I hope they go by quickly. On the other hand, if you liked the writing of the work, it is an obvious recommendation, but the novels on which the anime is based have a lot of extra world building and additional points of view that add a lot to the story.
By the time the entire story gets animated, which will take at least 4 full seasons, it will likely be regarded as a top 10 anime ever. For me, it is easily the best isekai. The story is so well written. For anime only watchers, there's so much to look forward to in the coming seasons.. you ain't seen nothing yet. 😎👍

I needed this video so badly. And I'm going to miss these reactions. But I love this channel enough that I watch other content here too. But this is a very great reaction channel.
Anna’s random jokes and color commentary really make the reactions much more fun. It’s the perfect balance between analyzing the story and getting invested, and throwing some fun little jokes here and there to break the tension ❤️
lol that ending card, cute. Thanks a lot for your discussions, you two are one of my favorite reactors and probably my favorite Mushoku Tensei reactors, can't wait for more in 6 months.
17:30 there’s a video regarding some of MT’s later arcs and plot points that encapsulates your feelings a bit: Mushoku Tensei likes to resolve things in a bit of an anti climactic way. We didn’t get a dramatic separation because there wasn’t an in world reason to have it, I guess (only thing that comes to mind would be Zenith, which is a common criticism for this part of the story). This feeling of “man, I was expecting something more dramatic for this” will probably come up a couple more times for you. One could say it’s an attempt to portray life in a naturalistic way: things just happen, regardless of if it makes good or bad drama. It’s either that or bad writing haha. From the things already shown, I’d say the separation with Sara’s party, or the fact that Roxy and Rudeus missed each other at the demon continent could be examples of this idea. Love your reactions. Now we wait for cour 2.
Sara's arc was added after the WN was complete so in a way it was meant to fill in a time skip. But Rifujin used the opportunity to make it a character study arc that has become one of my favorites. The story is only starting to take shape but you can also say it was clear what this story would be about from the first episode. We are just so used to wasted dialogue and anime conventions that we ignore it. Next cour is the first of the two most dramatic arcs in the story and the third season (if we get one) is the one virtually all LN readers have been most anticipating. Trying to predict the direction of the story only starts to be possible after about the first cour of the third season..
I never really understood that "anti climatic" thing. I guess it would depend on what expectations one has for a story, but a grudge that I commonly hold for most stories is that they are way too dramatized. That is also something I hate about the manga adaptation of Mushoku tensei among other mangas published in magazines. The common "we need a dramatic endpoint for each chapter" always feels like a desperate attempt at emotional manipulation to keep people interested. "Do you see how sad this is? Isn't this soo sad? Don't you want to know what happens in the next chapter?" Yeah, i get it, it's sad, stop shoving it in my face for fucks sake, this feels like the emotional equivalent to an orgasm denial. I much prefer a more melancholic tone in stories, or bittersweetness. Something I can look back at with a deep sight while holding this undescribable tightness in my chest.
It was less the "sex" Rudy had a problem with, it was the anxiety and anticipation of being abandoned afterwards. It's like a mentality of, "as long as I don't do it, everything will be _status quo,_ but the *moment* I try to do something productive, that's when the universe will pull the rug out from under me." With a complex like that, you feel "safer" stagnating because you're afraid that *you* were the one who made them abandon you. He's worried if he goes all the way with someone, she'll suddenly vanish from his life. And the way to overcome that is for the opposite to be reinforced; to do it and then see that he *isn't* abandoned. But that's kinda like telling someone with cripling arachnophobia that there's a magic potion that can cure them; they just have to go get it on the other side of a room filled top to bottom with _spiders._
OMG, I finally had time to watch this episode! I couldn't be more happy that Sylphy and Rudy are together after all this time, it's so cute! I was cheering when Sylphy came back into the room too, she's the only one that stuck with Rudy after... coupling. Ben's reactions this episode was priceless as well, I'm uncomfortable with those types of scenes and visuals too, more so when others are around.
I'm betting Sylphie could still function as her bodyguard just as herself instead of Fitz-Senpai. She wouldn't be any weaker, and honestly, it would probably be safer for everyone. Who is going to attack and potentially kill the wife of Quagmire Rudeus, who is served by the 3rd prince of Shirone, the Doldia Princesses, is friends with the leaders of most adventuring teams, was trained by Sword King Ghislaine and Water King Roxy, single-handedly killed a red dragon and defeated Demon King Badigadi in a duel. Not really someone you want to piss off, especially if you know about his friendship with Ruijerd as well. Pretty good final episode, I wonder what weddings are like in this world, I assume the princess has authority to marry her subjects, or maybe Cliff does since he's the grandson of the Pope, and Rudy's family mostly followed the Millis religion, although we know he's a practicing Roxy-ite.
The Millis church does big church weddings, as well as small ceremonies much akin to weddings outdoors. Cliff aims at holding his at the cathedral in Sharia. The world-building is vague on marriage, but it seems you only need the husband to provide a place for the couple to live, inform the relevant social circles, have the one entering the household to take the family name, and that's it.
Due to the aphrodisiac effect, Rudy was too aggressive on Sylphy, even tho it was her first time, so next day he thaught that she left him because of that.
Volume 9, page 335 "As impressed as I was, though, I also found myself struggling to hold back a wave of fear and anxiety. I'd acted like a madman last night, yes. But I remember everything I'd done. To be honest, I'd been really rough with Sylphie." [...] "I wasn't at all confident that I'd done a good job. In fact I was convinced I'd behaved even worse than I did on my first time. Even worse than I'd behaved on *that* night."
When discussing the problems of danger for Sylphie, I do want to point out a few things. First off, she was the 'top dog' before Rudy showed up at the academy. She took out both the beastkin girls solo and nearly as easily as Rudy did. She's also got the ability to cast healing magic without incantations, which is a huge support ability that Rudy does not have. Second off, she's been in combat with high-powered assassins and come out on top, and that was in Episode Zero. She's only progressed since then. Honestly, if she'd become an adventurer instead of a princess's bodyguard, she'd probably be A ranked at least. It would pretty much have to be Orsted or some similar tier problem for the team of Rudy and Sylphie to be truly endangered. I'd also point out that Rudy's father ended up with two wives after an 'oopsie' with the maid. So there's a precedent for ending up with multiple wives if he does end up running into Roxy. Sylphie would also know how much Rudy respected Roxy from their youth together. I could see it happening, in the right circumstances. If Eris shows back up, though... she's gonna get some push-back from Sylphie for hurting Rudy like that. Then again, without Eris hurting him, Sylphie would never have reunited with him, and if she can explain herself between dodging magic blasts, Eris might manage to talk her down. Then again, if Eris gets the same kind of sword skills as Gislaine? Uhh, that fight might go a very different direction.
Just like the pay offs in this anime is so satisfying, the pay offs from watching you two react to it, and other animes, is also satisfying as you get and remember most details. Love you two so much for that.
I reaaaally love your post episode discussions. I honestly believe you guys are one of the best analytical reactors with the best discussions and theories. Part 2 of Season 2 will be released on April 2024. And believe me when I say, that there are still lots of things to happen in season 2, 3, 4… we are here for a good long ride 😁
a good info: Luke would never go against ariel opinion like that normally, that makes luke standing up for rudy even more funny and explains ariel's face after.
Looking forward to part 2... that's gonna be a hell of a ride. Hopefully there's enough room to get to the next major turning point, as that'd be a great way to end the season.
The aphrodisiac was 10 Asura gold coins back in season 1. Luke bought -five- four for 15 each and got a free sample just a bit before the Teleportation Incident (when he was 12!). They're each worth 100 now, since Philip's dead and the flowers it's made from are gone. He's used two and gave one to Sylphy. Asura gold coins are converted to 100 000 yen by Rudeus. So about a grand per coin. Luke handed Sylphy 100 grand worth of pick-me-up and Ariel gave her two grand for booze.
Ok so at the end of some chapters in the novel, we get up to date with what’s happening with Eris. I really hope that we get one or two episodes with her. We’ve already seen a character connected with current Eris but I hope we get more.
I think the studio is going to do this: OVA is going to be Eris' entry into the dojo and Nina Falion's quest in Sharia, and S3E0 is going to be Eris' training in the Sword Sanctum, perhaps until the end of her training period.
"Luke is a seasoned warrior." Damn, Anna. The anine did NOT even come close to even kinda explaining how many....conquests Luke and Ariel have under their belts, but your words on Luke were perfect. Nicely said, lady.
This is the 4th reaction I've seen that missed the fact that Sylphie said the aphrodisiac was in her pocket and assumed that she was spiking Rudy's drink.
The post episode discussion makes me want to talk about so many things. I won't, because spoilers. But I can't wait for Season 2 part 2...and the eventual season 3, which will have my favorite moments.
I just wanna say something: About Sylphie attacking Paul, she hit him hit an Intermediate Spell strong enough to kill him, if Paul was just a little worst with the sword, he would die right there
The reason the aphrodisiac worked this time was because Rudeus himself is already on the path of recovery. Back then right after the incident with Sarah, his condition was at its worst. The novel didn't specifically mention what happened at the brothel just like how it was told in the anime, but I think personally that the brothel also had their own aphrodisiac. Elise told Soldat that she had tried everything, right?
Yeah, she tried everything, including things she wasn't really allowed to by the rules of the establishment. She *really* appreciated the help he gave her sister, to the point of being one of many to anticipate his patronage.

@@mordanthubris6516 "she would've been horrified if she knew how her awkward handling impacted him."
It nearly wrecks her.
Poor Sylphie, so many people think she'd drug Rudy without his consent 😂
And she was worried about saying "medicine" instead of "drug" would be lying to him...
Shockingly common reaction isn't it? Though I'd read the LN so I don't know for sure how I'd have responded to just this scene, we are missing a fair amount of inner monologue.
People gotta have more trust in best girl :3
Lmao she kept her identity a secret a whole year I wouldnt put it past her to not tell him haha.
In the novel she did think of it as an option, but immediately dismissed it. It would've been a nasty trick to do that to a person you care about.
Reminder that Fitz fended off assassins for six years and has killed an unknown number of people in that duty. Rudy couldn't bring himself to even kill the slave traders in the middle of their raid.
Shes the yandere and best girl
Right? I mean, it wouldn't even be difficult for him (skill-wise). He just hasn't ever!
@@fcgHenden I'd go further: Rudy has to work extra hard to NOT kill people with some of his spells, cos they absolutely would if he didn't dial them back.
@@gagrin1565 Yep. Ever since that treant practice. Pretty much all his efforts have gone to making his spells not deadly. 🤣🤣
That last frame at the end of this video is the cutest thing ❤️
ikr
Anna's so invested in Rudy's impotence lol
21:08 I think i relate to this feeling like i was so caught up that they are finally have "SEGGGSSSS LEZGOO!!" but then I realize that's not the goal, that's not what this arc trying to tell, and just like that my eyes was flooded with tears. What a beautiful story 👏
I have been waiting… 🙂
12 years!
In Azkaban!
for 2000 years, for someone

"We"
Cute Fact: in the end credtis the "thank you" art, Rudeus and Silphy are wearing their childhood clothes, the same they wore when they first met.
i would give some credit to the director, what we are seeing are the director's interpretation of the source material. and thank god, Japanese anime directors have a lots of love and respect to the source materials.
IIRC, studio Bind was formed with the purpose of animating Mushoku Tensei. So they're real fans of the original work, i would guess.
"This is one of the few times after a Mushoku Tensei episode where I think I don't have much to say"
Me: *Sees video length "I THINK NOT"
@Ben (I don't know if you ever read the comments in your TH-cam postings, but if you do):
Glad you folks noticed the callback to the aphrodisiac from Season 1. 🤣
As you & Anna have mentioned, this series keeps doing things you don't expect and takes us in directions we had not considered.
Nah bro, it's fine. There's nothing in the labyrinth that could harm Roxy and the other's.......
Nothing.
@priseta9290 it's completely safe and mundane. 😊
Ah yes, it might happen at the end of season 2 part2
congrats, you spoiled yourself
How’s it a terrible thought? What exactly even is your point?
Next part is coming April next year. Enjoy and prepare yourselves for much more deeper writings~
I think they will skip a lot of things, where LN readers want this part 1 being slower and have more stuffs, anime watcher wants it to be faster and get into action more.
true, highly possible. I'll wait for the trailer for more judgement@@panzlithium
This episode was such a piece of art
10:53 Bros literally dying inside. I love his reactions whenever the show gets sus lmao
you are the first reaction channel that i actually subscribe to it. great respect on every anime, with long and deep discussion, best reaction channel ever that definitely worth subscribing.
Godamn it. It will be so hard to wait half a year for cour 2 especially after hearing your discussion here... I can't wait to see your reactions to being proven right and so wrong to so many plot points!
Are these two drunk? They seem a lot more quirky than usual! 😂 Great reaction as always and listening to the discussion right now! It was a pleasure to experience this journey with all of you! Hope to see y'all in April! 👋
Ya i know right 😅 these two are drunk

Your reactions and reviews of Mushoku are one of my favorites can't wait for Peak to return in April 🤩
Luke was the MVP this episode.
Anna: "Luke is a seasoned warrior!"
😂😂😂
Simply love rewatching this story through your reaction!
Im so glad for ur reactions guys, new episodes in 6 months. Until that moment, thanks for your reactions, you are the best, I love you guys
Did you guys catch that him and nanahoshi have a 11year difference in getting in that world.
Great reaction as always.
- I don't think Rudy should ever physically come in contact with Roxy ever again...
*Laughs in light novel*
OMG, I finally had time to watch this episode! I couldn't be more happy that Sylphy and Rudy are together after all this time, it's so cute! I was cheering when Sylphy came back into the room too, she's the only one that stuck with Rudy after... coupling. Ben's reactions this episode was priceless as well, I'm uncomfortable with those types of scenes and visuals too, more so when others are around.
Worth the wait and looking forward to Season 2 Part 2 in April!
10:53 that was exactly my reaction lol 🤣
10:54 well now that was a scream! 😂
28:42 Ben I see you brought your "scroll" of seasons past! Might you mightily scroll through that scroll!
Lmao, Ben's evident uncomfortableness throughout was just continuously very funny

Great episode - and amazing arc - I enjoyed your reaction!
Due to the aphrodisiac effect, Rudy was too aggressive on Sylphy, even tho it was her first time, so next day he thaught that she left him because of that.
Volume 9, page 335
"As impressed as I was, though, I also found myself struggling to hold back a wave of fear and anxiety. I'd acted like a madman last night, yes. But I remember everything I'd done. To be honest, I'd been really rough with Sylphie."
[...]
"I wasn't at all confident that I'd done a good job. In fact I was convinced I'd behaved even worse than I did on my first time. Even worse than I'd behaved on *that* night."
Great discussion as always.
I don't know what is supposed to replace this series, but I hope to see you follow Frieren this season.
"Honestly, if she'd become an adventurer instead of a princess's bodyguard, she'd probably be A ranked at least."
Funny you should mention that...
Can't wait for next cour!
Frieren would be the perfect follow up show to watch in between MT cours!
The wood dropping in the fire is a perfect analogy. X-D
I love your reactions and deep analysis of Mushoku Tensei, I can't wait to see you react to the second part in April 2024
Only 184 days, 23 hours, 17 minutes and 32 seconds until Season 2 Episode 13 airs.(April 2024) ! :D
Just like the pay offs in this anime is so satisfying, the pay offs from watching you two react to it, and other animes, is also satisfying as you get and remember most details. Love you two so much for that.
The last picture in the video was actually really cute
I reaaaally love your post episode discussions. I honestly believe you guys are one of the best analytical reactors with the best discussions and theories. Part 2 of Season 2 will be released on April 2024. And believe me when I say, that there are still lots of things to happen in season 2, 3, 4… we are here for a good long ride 😁
a good info: Luke would never go against ariel opinion like that normally, that makes luke standing up for rudy even more funny and explains ariel's face after.
Anna has to be one of my favorite reactors
Nice reaction and discussion!
fun fact: Rudeus gets even wilder as he (in the light novel) cuts the blood stain outta the sheets to use as another goddess shrine
You guys are the best Reactors out there

Season 2 Part 2 is coming in April 2024 guys!
I will miss mushoku,Now we will have to wait for 6 months until the next part

I am so incredibly hopeful for the "You cheated" scene
@@christopherbaldwin2094 They better animate Norn's anger well, so it just doesn't seem like Rudeus made no mistakes
The post episode discussion makes me want to talk about so many things. I won't, because spoilers. But I can't wait for Season 2 part 2...and the eventual season 3, which will have my favorite moments.
I can’t wait to see Turning Point 4 animated.
Gah, I just want more!
I just wanna say something:
About Sylphie attacking Paul, she hit him hit an Intermediate Spell strong enough to kill him, if Paul was just a little worst with the sword, he would die right there
The reason the aphrodisiac worked this time was because Rudeus himself is already on the path of recovery.
She *really* appreciated the help he gave her sister, to the point of being one of many to anticipate his patronage.
ben prediction is so spot on
10:36 Lol wth was that look for, Anna? Couldn't get a read on what was so surprising there
(Edit)
