Imagine if SM listened to Taemin’s suggestion- Wish You Were Here as the pre-release single and Infinity as the title track, these two songs deserves so much attention.
I remember people saying the only factor for members being picked was popularity so I’ll tell u why they were picked: Baekhyun: he has a almost full range making him extra versatile. Taemin: do I even need to explain him?! Kai: he has the dancing and the deep voice and can rap basically a triple threat. Ten, Lucas, Mark: most likely chose for their English speaking as this group is a power move to staple their place into America, also for their dancing. Mark and Taeyong: as their probbaly the best developed rappers from SM as around the time the debuted they really doubled down on improving their rappers. Ten: his dancing duh! And he covers a high range and adds different high notes in a beautiful and dainty almost way while Baekhyuns is powerful and regal a nice contrast. Lucas: probably his naturally deep voice for rapping as Kai I feel like handles the deep vocals while Lucas would handle the deep rapping hopefully we get to see more of him. But that’s why I think each of them were chosen, while Chen would’ve been a good choice if you already have Ten why add another person with a similar singing style when it comes to those high notes besides perhaps SM knew about Chen’s wife or at the time fiancé or girl friend and decided it was better to not add him. I see people saying why not add Taeil, Jaehyun or Doyoung. While al amazing vocalists in their own unique ways again why add powerful vocalists when you already have a strong set up besides Jaehyun would be covering the lower register which Kai has covered, Doyoung would probably be the middle register eventually going into the high register but Ten covers the high register and Taemin already handles the middle register and his voice is amazingly suited because of his vibrato it just brings something different and unique to the group. Then Taeil again powerful vocalist don’t get me wrong one of my all time favorites next to Rose, Baekhyun, Taemin, and Haechan but again you have powerful vocalists and it just wouldn’t make sense as when making a group each member needs to bring something different. Ten brings the dancing and high notes, Lucas and Ten also bring Chinese with them but Lucas brings a low register opening new ideas for rap verses, Mark brings the fluency English and korean and more smooth rapping. Taeyong brings his unique dance style and his more harsh and powerful rapping being able to soften it for songs like this. Kai brings his own unique dance style and his deep voice for vocals. Taemin brings a unique dance style and vibrato voice making vocals extra unique. And Baekhyun brings powerful and beautiful vocals and sporting practically a full range. This is why they were chosen.
Let's put aside all our fandom wars, there's no denying SM is an expert at engineering the best idol groups and SuperM is no exception. The members go along well with each other, their dynamics are wholesome and the music they put out reflects how well they perform as a group. I wish fans of the original groups set aside their opinions and give the group or at least their music a chance because you are seriously missing out.
If this song was made by some other foreign artist then it would've topped billboard charts but unfortunately... People need to appreciate talent more.
