This is the reason I follow MotorWeek , Retro Reviews ! Me and my friends lived at the local drag strips along with circle tracks back in the 80s, fun times. Wish I could go back and do it all over again.
Me and my brother use to go to the drag strip every weekend with my pops. He had a 78 Gold Pontiac T/A with a built 400. And then a 70 Firebird also with a 400. I eventually ran my 95 Mustang Gt 5 speed a few times. Getting a good reaction time with a manual is hard work lol. Man those were good times!
Sadly, many of these local tracks are disappearing at an expediential pace. People building housing near race tracks in otherwise rural areas and people moving near tracks has resulted in many tracks being restricted to when and how they operate runs them out of business. The 75-80 Drag-a-Way, seen here in this video and MotorWeek's longtime test track was no exception.
Wow. No wonder this part of the sport was so popular back then. It's not as much these days, but its still great fun to be there with your family or friends.
I noticed that too, but my assumption was that someone else shot the footage for MotorWeek. MotorWeek's road tests were shot on videotape right from the beginning, so they ought to have been able to do the same here.
@@themaritimegirl I'm sorry but that's incorrect. Go watch the 1982 Lincoln Continental review and you can see all the outside shots were done on film, either 16mm or Super 8. There's loads of dust spots popping all throughout that footage, and you can tell when the car is moving that it's in 24 fps, not 30. People commented on it, which is what brought it to my attention in the first place. Cheers.
Those were the days. Real men, racing real cars. Unlike today's disposable electric cars, these cars live on forever through restoration. Try doing that with your toaster on wheels.
What a great time to be alive. Too bad I was a little kid then and wasn't really cognizant of that.

Wow, serious memories. Back when Mr. Davis and I both had hair on the top of our heads.

Yessss back in the super early days of MotorWeek when they would film remote segments on gritty grainy film

It’s crazy to think that sedans would out accelerate the car he is demoing.
Thank you Motorweek

This makes me think about East Alabama motor speedway back in the day.
A different time for sure.

Too bad 75-80 is another dragstrip that is gone. Does MW still have access for its testing. Good retro vibes with 5 ambers on the tree.
