CONSPIRACY NUTS: "I bet aliens built the pyramids -- there's no way ancient Egyptians could have possible moved all those blocks up to such a height." WERNER HERZOG: "Halten Sie mein Bier."
Today this would be done with lightweight models and forced perspective, filled in with CGI, and it would be meaningless. For this alone Herzog deserves a lifetime achievement Oscar.
Forced perspective, in-focus shots blurring out the scenery, colour and grain filters, close shot of people making horrible "WWOOOOOWWW" faces... Yeah. Cinema has had a good life, but it's been over for quite a while.
Its wild people did shit like this back then...but now its like you can just fly wherever the fuck you want. Find out if its worth it...its all about planning. Back then it was not like that...
Herzog's team tugged a real 320-ton steamship up a hill-all without special effects.
@@moomoocowsly Yea, you're right. I should have clarified. When I said team I didn't mean the upper echelon.
why bother with special effects if you can simply drag a steamboat over a mountain?
namefinder imagine pitching this to a studio
the crazy part is its not the first time it happened
True
ha hahaaa so tru ; )))
He made this movie just to try and see if he could actually move a boat over a mountain

Neckbeard comment
Yea lifting a ship across hill is definitely the same as the pyramids, and the sound barrier on the highway is the same as the Great Wall of China lol
If you actually did a second of research you’d find the pyramids were way more impressive then this.
The Egyptians didn’t have pullies or anything like what was used here.
This is the prime example of some midwit who don’t know what they are talking about trying to be a smart ass and act like they know everything.
Films like this will never be made. We are lucky to have it.
Never say never
Plain Ol' Sarah Jane Blagg of Zanesville said I'd never ride the Lorena
INCREDIBLE.
ABSOLUTEMENT.
One of my FAVORITE videos on YT!!!!!!!! It is a masterpiece trough and trough!!

CGI is the devil.

One of the greatest films ever made
Herzog, loco, iluminado, visionario...GENIO.
I miss 'real' movies. Computers have ruined movie making.
the scene is way too ambitious for a movie that will definitely fall into obscurity if not for the crazy director and even crazier main actor
Nope
Not crazy director, bold and genius
Well, we're here, aren't we ?
Werner Herzog...one of the Greats..right up there with Kubrick...Copolla...Tarantino and Scorsese...
I'd love to see certain parts of this movie remade with really, really good cgi so I could compare and contrast the two.
E o Miltão no filme, né? Maravilhoso
Unbelievable.
wtf Werner!?
The tension
Mucho loco 💪💪💪💪
This ship it's in my town

Capolavoro assoluto
LOS EFECTOS ESPECIELES FUERON REALIZADOS POR EL MEXICANO MIGUEL VAZQUEZ MAYEN.
no hay efectos especiales pelotudo
The movie might have been better had they used Mexican polka music.
That is Peru, not Mexico: do not confuse both countries. Educate yourself more in world history and geography.
@@florchavez3040 I didn't know Caruso was Peruvian. Thank you for enlightening me with your vast knowledge.
Stupid ass comment. Why tf would you use mexican music in a movie filmed in the peruvian rain forest?
You got some hate for this but I like this idea, Werner Herzog missed the mark
werner would have liked dethklok... if you don't know what I'm talking about just watch this. you'll love it.
