My guess is we’re not going to get to skip the asteroid mining phase of space exploration. Slow ships, and zero gravity ship yards. We’ll be a space faring species centuries before we go interstellar.

I love how all this theoretical technology and science ties back specifically to waves. There's more going on when it comes to gravity and our understanding of space.
I remember the day it was confirmed gravity has waves, one of the coolest moments of my life.
There have been many "limits" that "experts" have told us about since day one. Cant sail too far or fall off the earth, cant build too tall or God will get annoyed, cant fly, cant fly if heavier than air, cant exceed speed of sound, etc. Its just my thought, but i suspect that we will exceed light speed in time, and perhaps a muligalactic civilization someday.
I'm not going to say it's impossible because really, who knows. But, if it's possible to break the speed of causation, the fermi paradox gets a whole lot more complicated. If it's possible, we would see the already established multigalactic civilizations everywhere. So at this stage, extremely unlikely. But I'm interested to see where the research goes!

We need to be thinking of suitable materials that can actually manoeuvre through space that's littered with dust and the odd rock. We can't simply fly at that speed into large quantities of particles without finding a way of getting them out of the way - otherwise it will be a large metal pancake that reaches its destination
So I'm thinking that, for a long time, we might have to make do with slow cruisers instead, taking larger numbers of people out on very long, generational, one way trips to planets solidly identified as safe and life-supportable, to set up stations for humans that travel by faster means later in our development. These cruiser ships should be provided with all the means for extracting minerals on the way to wherever. A bit like Red Dwarf in a way - a mining ship, but with the added technology of changing raw materials to whatever the inmates wanted.
I think the scientists are going about this the wrong way - just like car manufacturers that make high performance sports cars for road use, all those roads having speed limits that the cheapest Toyota can manage with perfect ease.
We need to think of safety first, get people actually 'out there,' in practical terms, and then worry about speed tricks later.
If I had the chance to get on a space cruiser that would take another 5 generations to reach its destination, would I go, knowing that I would never see that final destination?

I'd love nothing more than to be in space now. I would never tire of looking at stars, get to see the odd asteroid, comet, possibly even a fly-past by a planet.
I don't need to reach a destination. I just need to be useful on the ship and know I wouldn't be blasted into space when I got too old to be useful...
A few weeks ago, experiments in creating forces in excess of 1 G (ie, ability to defy earth gravity and to accelerate at at least that speed in a vacuum) in small objects were successful using what was loosely described as an electron imbalance field. This required only the ability to create the field using a capacitor, and in theory appears to violate commonly held physic principles by allowing such a field to exist without the expenditure of energy once a capacitor has been charged to create the field in the first place. We already have the physical components required to do this on a small scale, and their experiments were duplicated by a couple of other teams. In theory, this is the first step towards potentially creating a viably working Alcubierre field, as it provides what is effectively the "negative energy" required, which until now was considered an impossibility.
Can you offer proof of this successful experiment? The sighting of a peer reviewed article would be well appreciated. If not then it will have ben considered a rumor at best.

Watch maybe 3 min of video. Everything is repeated a few times and covers old propulsion technology not relevant to warp drive and is used as filler to break 10 min of video so he can make money by wasting our time.
Soliton waves were mentioned in an episode of Star Trek: TNG as an alternative to warp drives, basically having ships ride waves generated at a base station and canceled out at the destination end. It's interesting to see the two merge into one.
From what I have read in following this topic, there are 3 major barriers to this: 1) amount of energy needed to warp space; 2) the need for exotics materials, ie negative energy which we don’t even know if it exists, much less produce it if it does; and 3) Hawking radiation. Scientific interest in a warp drive didn’t really pick up until someone at NASA refined the theory to greatly reduce the amount of energy needed to warp space. I don’t recall his name, but he reduced the energy needed from the utterly ridiculous to within the realm of possibilty. This latest paper has now addressed the second major hurdle because it has shown a way to warp space without the need for negative energy. The Hawking radiation problem remains, but advances in warp theory suggest that a warp drive MIGHT some day be possible. Some day is NOT right around the corner. No one knows when or if a warp drive based on manipulating space will work in theory, let alone be possible to actually build. All that can be said at the present is that warp drives seem to be moving from pure science fiction to something worthy of further investigation

Heard about solitons, back when. First observed, I think, about 200 years back near some industrial works in Scotland? Been a while. A fellow was out riding his horse, for fun, I guess, when he noticed some odd looking waves that were over taking some slower waves in a shallow cannel. He fooled around with the idea on the kitchen table, and got the handmade models to work. I was well to do (the pet horse) and wrote it up as he worked in one of the factories, hence his funding. Been known since then as problems in household plumbing as the phenomena will some times make odd noises in pipes. Don't think that it will harm pipes, just noisy.
This is both fascinating and inspiring. However while I hate to rain on parades, my fear is that modern civilisation won't last long enough to bring this about.

Ok but it's important to note that the latest paper did NOT say these drives would move faster than light, they were VERY vocal in the paper against the notion. What they DID say was the engine COULD work with no movement at all like Alcubiere posited. But that you wouldn't be getting to the nearest star very soon at all.
I think the work of Bobrick & Martire in 2021 has shown that warp bubbles cannot propel themselves, they did this while being aware of Eric Lenz's paper (which is what I guess you are referring to), this means an EXTERNAL propulsion is needed, i.e. we are back to slower-than-light, and probably MUCH slower.
Can you explain how a soliton wave would handle the time synch issue?
The wave is probably open on the sides and therefore always connected while a warpbubble in essence cretes a separate univers.
Frankly, I'm not sure where the video came up with the problem itself. Even Alcubierre's original proposal already notes that, because the ship is contained in a bubble of flat spacetime, it does not suffer any time dilation. Only slower-than-light proposals suffer from significant time synchronisation issues.

The space is moving around the ship. Carrying the ship within, so, no time sync issues. The ship is basically stationary inside the bubble if that be a classic warp bubble proposal.

You still have the same problem you had with Wormholes. Quantum Physics. As soon as you create a barrier, a warp bubble or a wormhole you start generating and infinite amount of Hawkins Radiation, destabilizing (and superheating) your structure. Einstein hated Quantum Physics and, apparently, it hated him right back.
I wonder if the person in question got the idea from the Star Trek TNG episode "New Ground" where on this episode that a ship could catch the "soliton wave" at propel the ship at warp speeds with a counter wave at the destination dissipating the wave slow the ship down. That's true. Technology innovation is moving faster than Societal thinking. We still rely on the accumulation of wealth to fund our visions. Money is holding us back. Society would advance by leaps and bounds. Think about it, How many medical advances have been placed on a shelf because there's no money in the budget. Or in order to eliminate poverty we need to eliminate wealth accumulation.

It is interesting that you mentioned solitons, In WWII the Germans had an experimental set up called the bell, the conspiracy theories suggest it was a nuclear bomb or a new kind of weapon or an anti-gravity propulsion system. In fact it has been suggested that what it was, was just a physics experiment using two counter rotating plasma solitons used to see if they could see the bending of space-time. I just thought this was interesting.

Not necessarily. I used to think that aswell, but after a closer look i doubt it, for two reasons:
1. It might be impossible to create the necessary space time distortion for a warp drive in the already extremely warped space time in a black hole (might be different for kerr black holes.
2. The warp drive would have to adhere to the conservation of energy. If so, even if converted the entire ships mass into energy at 100% efficiency, it still wouldn't be enough energy to overcome the gravity potential difference.
If the Higgs boson is the particle that gives other particles mass, would we be able to manipulate bosoms to increase and decrease mass ourselves making a warp drive possible

The visualisation commonly used uses a two dimensional spacetime image distorted into an artificial three dimensional wave, one would be better visualising a vortex cannon or smoke ring structure which once initiated in the low density environment of space would propagate with very little resistance retaining its shape. Speeds anywhere near light speed or greater need to be achieved outside of quantum space. QS would crush any matter traveling at great speeds. Gravity is caused by the pressure against movement by WS; we call this force gravity.

There's no such thing as the bending of spacetime, but there are physics that would work. Acceleration has a length which could be just produced mechanically, that might might work instead of the bending of spacetime.
In 100yrs, we went from barely getting off the ground (Wright bros.), to achieving stealth. It may very well take another century to achieve faster than light travel. FTL

Why warp spacetime when we could just travel around it altogether? Not necessarily through wormholes.

We also have Nobel Prize-winning experiments proving non-locality - no distance, beyond spacetime - and black hole math hints at something beyond spacetime altogether! Could warping spacetime for traveling through space be our Mickey Mouse thinking, assuming spacetime is fundamental, so we naively try hard to travel through it when we could just go around?

I have yet to see any confirmed evidence that space can warp at all. The observations we have merely show that things fall into holes, ie mass attracts mass. Warping 'spacetime' is an Einsteinian concept to explain an observed effect. A concept that requires space to stretch under gravity. This means that space between the galaxies is smaller than space close or inside the galaxies. So how much smaller is it? Does it shrink to nothing? Or maybe it just gets thinner and thinner?
An alternate view is that 'spacetime' is fixed at a given size and, along with all other matter, is attracted to mass. The effect we observe is spacetime falling into mass and deflecting em waves as it falls. This would lead us to the possibility that new space is being created in the miniscule gravity areas between the galaxies. The creation of quantum particles from vacuum energy would require billions of years to accumulate even a few atoms per cubic meter.
