Amber, I'm not being the least bit gratuitous saying this, but it is incredible how similar in personality your Lily is to my Kitty before she passed away. Kitty was cream-colored but every other thing about Lily that gives you joy is what Kitty gave to me. I do miss her so much, but being reminded of her by Lily doesn't sadden me, it gives me joy. Lily is obviously very happy that she has such an awesome life and an awesome human to provide it for her.
AND physical books can be read and donated to schools or charities, etc, for people who cannot afford to buy them. It’s a win, win...you enjoy the physical book that you love and you pass the joy and experience to another!
The smell of books is the number one thing that provokes a strong sense of nostalgia for me to this day. I have always had a fondness for books. My mom was a prolific book reader and when I was growing up, books were that special bond that was unique to her and me. It was our thing. My brothers couldn't care less about books. So when it came to books, I had her all to myself. Every Saturday we would go to book stores and used book shops and she would hit the Yellow Pages for ones we hadn't been to and check out ones people would tip her off to. Every time I smell the scent of books, I am transported to those times and those memories, sharing Saturday mornings with my mom in the aisles between shelves of books. By the time I was a teenager, we had collected enough books to open our own used book store. Then, tragedy struck when our property in Texas flooded during an extremely severe storm and destroyed the storage building where we stored our books. All our books were washed away and deposited here and there all along the river leading to the lake ten miles away. At one part of the river channel, which is bone dry along nearly it's entire length and is usually nothing more than a dry creek bed cutting across our property, so many of our ruined books had accumulated that the Corps of Engineers had to send a back hoe to clear them out so they wouldn't cause the thing to flood during a normal rain storm. We were fortunate that we had had the entire lot of them valuated as part of the preparations for opening our store so it was easy to claim on insurance. But it was only small comfort.
Cuteness overload is little Lily. When I get a chance to go to Barnes & Noble ,family or friends have to come and search for me I take so long on there just looking.
Great job on the music while Lilly was exploring the dog park! I love poking around in Barnes & Noble. When I’m traveling, I like to try to find used bookstores in whatever town I’m in. Thanks for another fun video!
I used to spend many saturdays wandering around Barnes and Noble. I bought a kindle but just couldnt get into it so I still buy books but now I am more into audibles since I can listen to books while driving. If you dont have audibles I highly recommend it! Enjoyed your Destin video. It was one of my faviorite places in Fl. Hope you make it to Naples. Thats another interesting city and take a canal tour if you get a chance to visit. I also enjoyed just driving thru the neighborhoods to see the amazing homes. Fun times!
I loved how Amber described how she felt when she’s in a bookstore too! I used to go to Borders all the time too! I was upset when they closed all of them too
I think I need to start reading about empaths. I think I could be one too! I am way too sensitive. Luv Lilly. Reminds me so much of my dog I lost. He used to luv to roll in the grass and then just sit in the sun like he was sunbathing!
I love the Lily segments. She reminds me of my rat-chi (rat terrier chihuahua mix). You did a great job combining the music with Lily's frolic in the dog park.
I love books too! Although I mostly read on Kindle, I do occasionally by physical books like travel and coffee table books at my local B&N. Did it occur to you that maybe you like the feel of books because the paper is made from trees?
We think that Lily should have her own YT channel. At the very least "A Day In The Life" We love Florida & have always love coming back. Lou is a lover too! Lou & Angie
Trees for you, smells for Lily! Can life get better than this??? After you ease out of your van life, I could see you opening a cute little bookstore in a small resort community.
I passionately love books and had a collection numbering several hundreds when I lived in stick and bricks. When I decided to pursue #vanlife and moved into my van, I only kept a handful. This winter, I added a cabinet over my cab area and the "door" is a custom-sized (14" x 44") canvas attached with a piano hinge that I'm painting to look like a shelf of books. It's still in process, but I'm loving the look. Books and travel (particularly out of the US) are the best way to combat ignorance, IMHO. BTW, next time you're in Portland, Oregon, check out Powells Books. I prefer independent bookstores, but wherever it takes for people to read I'm there.
I completely understand when it comes to book stores. I am fortunate to have a Barnes & Noble within 10 minutes of me and occasionally I'll pick up a physical magazine or book however I live in a small space and do not have room for lots of physical books so now I'm on the e-book bandwagon and I love it. I can adjust the font, I can read without having a lamp behind me or light on top of the book and I can have more books in my possession not taking up physical space. I've discovered so many advantages to it and I was one who NEVER thought I would give up physical books.
Lily was hilarious at the dog park. Love her personality, she reminds me of my silly girl Clover. Oh yes Barnes and Noble I love that bookstore and have bought countless books over the years. I too have a kindle now but do travel with some books too. 👍🏻❤️🐾
Lily seriously brightens my day, lol. My love for books and book store is so strong, I'm actually starting a book blog for midlife women😅 I also wanted to mention that with your love of trees, (which i totally share), you need to come to Cathedral Growth on Vancouver Island. It has some of the oldest and largest Douglas Fir trees in North America. It literally is a Cathedral of some of the largest trees you will ever see. Xox
I love books, but gave in to technology 5 or 6 years ago and use a Nook or tablet to purchase or borrow from library. Glad you are having a great time!
I used to work at Hastings book music and video store until it closed down..worked in book dept.. my adult kids and grandkids love to go when they visited me..yes one of my favorite jobs to..safe travels.
I love book stores too. I also visit bookstores in other countries. I have a great Barnes and Noble book store near me that I used to visit frequently, but it’s been closed due to Covid but set to open again soon. Looking forward to seeing you live tomorrow.
You should write a book. In fact, you should write a few. One on your travels and what it was like and all the things you did. Of course one on what it is like to be an Empath. Thanks for sharing your trip.
i love to read the paper books as well, when my mom passed she had about 1000 books so I donated the type of books I wasn't interested in to the senior center with the ones that were left when I'm done reading one I place them in a box and when it's full I donate them to the senior center. I also have a kindle for when i travel.
I always wanted to work in a bookstore! Or at a library. The Wait Five Minutes podcast just had an episode in a small FL bookstore dedicated to selling and saving books by FL authors and about FL. It’s the Florida Classics Library in Hobe Sound (north of Miami metro area).
This time a week ago we were camping in Niceville FL at the state park there, PERFECT weather. Enjoyed lunch one day on the docks in Destin. I would give Dewey's 5 star and nice place to eat if your still around that area.
If you don’t want them to disappear, patronize “sticks and bricks “ bookstores often! Also, why not find the independent bookstore in each of the communities you will travel to and patronize THEM...they need you. ❤️
I love the Destin / Ft Walton beach area... I have an uncle that lives in Ft Walton and spent many summers there with my cousins and grandmother.... So many great memories... Its still as beautiful as ever...
I used to read at least a book a week but life happened. I started back after years and just finished Quichotte by Salman Rushdie and enjoyed it so much. I had missed the feel of holding a book.
I just went to a Barnes and Noble yesterday and bought a bunch of books 📚Love Books!! I need that book you just bought what section are they in I'm a impath and I'm 67 years old no one could explain in all my years what I was they just called me sensitive I get so full of others feeling I get exhausted I live in my books to get away from it Thanks for mentioning that book.
Hi Amber and Lilly your both Looking wonderful . i love Burns and Noble and books store small ones i love we have one here where i live open in the summer. Great video. You are so inspiring. Thank you again Take care Be Safe and God Bless. Gloria Thee Traveling Nomad in Waiting.
Hi Amber &Lilly 🤗ive been watching from OZ im Bety and my nrew little travel buddy is Gemma a little mixed breed 😍 shes not my OG ( that was Bella shtzu with dwarfism... sooo cute . She skipped over the Rainbow last Monday.same day Gemma came...)but she loves our van.l tooam an empath and youre such an insiration to me,even though im older...60 in May...hmmm🤔slow learner maybe?😂 anyhoo love your style woman... and Lilly is a clone off my mums dogs ooh from 40 yrs ago...Minnie oh such happy memories😊 Happy travels to you both you good girls😍😍
While you were chatting about your love for books... my thoughts instantly went to "Travels With Charley" by Steinbeck. I adored that book, and have read it several times. Have you ever read it? If not, being a dog lover, I highly recommend it. YOU should write a "Travels with Lily". I think that would be fantastic. I think having empathy for people is a gift... not a curse. Don't lose that.. it's needed in this harsh world. Hugs
Ahhh yes, a book store. Book stores are also one of my favorite places because of the smell of ink and paper as well as the keeper of wisdom of so many lives. After all, paper bound books are one of the end products of trees. I especially like Barnes and Noble to enjoy a cup of Starbucks while I read in peace. Fiction or non-fiction are the "stories" of life, knowledge, and adventure.
The blue green water is beautiful! Looks like sweet Lily is enjoying her time in FL as much as you are! I’m sure you already know this, but don’t walk Lily near any water in FL except the ocean because of alligators. We had a teacher that was killed here on Hilton Head because she was walking her dog near a lagoon. The alligator came out of the water & grabbed the dog. She tried to save her dog. The alligator pulled her into the lagoon where he drowned her. The dog survived. They will even go after big dogs. A friend’s lab was killed by one. I’m sure you know this since you lived in Jacksonville but just in case you don’t. Don’t want anything to happen to sweet Lily! ❤️
Hey Amber, I have a question for you.....as one who loves books too....here in Ontario (Canada), some towns (like the one I'm in, Waterloo) have roadside libraries....most look like small houses.....and you leave a book and take a book (it's all on the honour system). I've donated most of my books (and sold some during my yard sales when I was moving) but will be taking my faves with me on the road in my tiny-home-on-wheels (hopefully that will start in the fall)......I'm wondering if in the USA, along your travels at least, have you seen any of these small roadside leave-a-book-take-a-book libraries? P.S. Lily is SOOO cute! I love her (without even meeting her I love her....she's so similar to my little Tia).
We have Books-A-Million. in. Pennsylvania . what they don't have will be ordered and mailed were you want..also the individuals who are employed their seem to know their BOOKS🙂
What breed of dog is lily. And is she really as well behaved and easy to train as she appears to be. I am a disabled retired woman and looking for a simple dog to love! I love your relationship with her. Love your videos!!
Ah! You found the book! Haha! I’m glad you enjoyed the gulf coast and found the dog park. Looking forward to all your travels and experiences. Safe travels.
I might be an empath. In fact I didn’t even know the term until you mentioned it in another video. The book you bought is from 2007. I would like to read a current book on the subject but can’t find one. Please share any insights from the book. You’ve hit on something that can be beneficial to the public who have this and like me never had a name for it.
Please help me, a fellow empath! I have a big golden girl & haven't traveled with her. How long are you away from your rv & Lily, as you explore, shop, etc? Do you use apps to track the temp. inside your van? Love your videos! Thanks!!
Lilly may be a Mountain Feist “squirrel dog” from her markings. There are articles on internet. I’d give some links but that might go against policies.
Hi Amber I don't mean to boast.... Well, yeah I do, but just have to say if you come to Australia you will get those views everywhere. Come on over lol
I am also an Empath but didn’t realize they had a name for it. I would pray to God and ask that he take it away from me because I would cry so much, but I have now accepted who I am and embrace it.

Aww love her stretches. - she's only about the length of my dogs leg when she's stretched, lol
Lily is just precious!
I love how you've been opening with Lily. We get to wake up with her as well!😊
I love the smell of books, too! Love your vlogs.
I feel the same way about libraries. Really missing going to my community library since it is still closed from COVID.
I love books too! Have a great day!!!😊

Better to be overly sensitive than insensitive be you ciao.
Most people are sensitive... not really new...
