However its a dance contest, you don't win by proxy for being the first, its not a variety show, you win by dance technique and not just performance. I’m from the UK, home of the original format for DWTS, except our version is called Strictly Come Dancing, which references an old tv show here in the UK combined with Strictly Ballroom. Len and Bruno were judges on our version at the start, and Gleb had a season or two as a pro with us before moving to be on DWTS. There are differences between each version from country to country (there are many, many international versions of Strictly/DWTS: most European countries, South Africa, India) so I have a couple of questions about DWTS, if someone doesn’t mind helping me out here pls? For the finale, is it 100% on the viewers vote or do the judges scores count? Is it 4 finalists and then the 4th place contestant is eliminated and the others do an additional dance or do all 4 dance everything and all the placements are read out? In ours, they don’t announce 2nd/3rd/4th, just announce the winner and everyone else remains as a runner up. They also have to do 3 routines (used to be 4 but I think they reduced it to 3 a few years back). In the UK, people with a lot of prior dance experience don’t tend to win, even if their performances are perfect. People prefer someone who really improved across the series and you can see their progression and the process of learning to dance. The show dance (freestyle) is also very important: it needs to be entertaining and either an old-style Hollywood routine reminiscent of Fred and Ginger, or really illustrating the couple’s journey, highlighting key moments from their previous routines with a lot of ballroom and Latin content, to really get the public vote. Unless viewers really fell for Charli’s personality (have only seen her routines, beautifully danced, so I can’t comment on anything else), it’s less likely that she would’ve won in the UK as she was so good in week 1. Anyone beloved by viewers but who is a weaker dancer might get voted through week after week, but will go at week 10 at the latest as people do only want the best dancers in the last few shows. Our series runs from mid-September until just before Christmas (finale Dec 18th this year) so is usually 14 weeks incl the launch show, I think. And then a Christmas special shown on Christmas day, so add in all the cast reveals, partner matching etc we get 4 months of Strictly content every year. Are there any voting trends in the US?
Yes the judges scores and viewers votes on finale night counts toward who wins the season. And we normally do the result when we have the top 2 of the season. So the 4th place and 3rd do take in affect.

Honestly, with how much the past 3 seasons were kind of underwhelming (with a few notable exceptions among the contestants, like Jojo & Nev), DWTS needed this season! The top def deserved to be the top 4 and Shangela was bringing the joy and energy along with her incredible talent! I hope she's not the last drag performer to be invited to compete. RIP Len Goodman, I'm glad your final season on the show was this one!
The rumba was SO hot 🥵 But as an Argentinian I have to say, what the hell was that song for the tango? It has a characteristic beat of 3/3 3/3 2/4 and this song was a generic 4/4 that did not go with it
