Me too, here's something pretty crazy, in 1975 the playset was $13.47 and $2.83 for each action figure. That price reflects that it was just cardboard and plastic, the magic was provided by our imaginations.
First mego toy I got in1975, with figures ,one of the best gifts I was ever given, obviously it never lasted, but since then I've recollected all the mego merchandise ,collecting from 1985 to present, got all the 70 s merchandise now, boxed and loose, including Apes, Superheroes,1999, and many more
Grown people who still have an appreciation for toys, vintage or not, are individuals with great imagination and creativity. A goodly number of these are artists of different disciplines: Writers, sculptors, musicians and painters on palette, Etc.
Tony Tafoya couldn’t agree more, there’s something to be said about admiring something in your collection. Regardless of the price it’s the emotion you feel, that’s where the real value is.
Excellent review and thank you soo much for pronouncing Mego correctly (Me-Go, NOT meg-Go) so many UK folks like to deliberately mis pronounce typical words (not talking about the traditional ones like schedule). Keep up the good work!
Does anyone else remember the time The Joker and Penguin took over the Enterprise and Kirk and Spock had to enlist Captain American and Batman to help regain control? No? Just me? Man, Mego was the bomb back in the 70s!
Great review! I was a child in that original Mego demographic and received this playset for Christmas 1975. Still have it, alas the box is considerably beat up now. Still have all my figures too. Will always cherish this playset. Was so original and fun as a kid. This and the Evel Knievel stunt cycle were the big items that year.
Rick Baker Rick Baker I wasn't around back then so I had regular plastic action figures growing up but I can see why the Mego style caught on the way it did! I own 33 retro style action figures and I've fallen in love with the retro style action figure. Thanks for your kind words mate!
It really is a beautiful piece. It’s hard being a Star Trek fan because there’s hardly ever anything new out to buy, but I’m really glad to see how much people still like and appreciate this playset.
Many Star Trek toys of the 1970's had "off model" art and execution. Part of their charm. The Enterprise art on the play are does not resemble the look of an animated series.
We had this as a kid, honestly I don't think it was really intended for kids to play with, more like for the dorky parents to collect. The dolls fell apart because they were held together with elastic. I don't remember having a Uhura. And the transporter was fun, half the time the doll would fling out at you at high speed or a limb would fall out and get cut off.
That is a terrific collection. I had the bridge playset like yours along with all of the figures in this video along with the Gorn and the strange bald figure that was half white/black that was supposed to represent the two characters in the TOS episode May This Be Your Last Battlefield. My dad got them all for me at Watson's in Oak Ridge, Tennessee back in the day. The had tons of ST Mego figures. I mean piles. The Mego toys were excellent except for the knees. You could drop one on the ground and it would start to tear at the knee joint.
James Viles thanks for the kind words! I've got even more Star Trek retro style action figures since I uploaded this and haven't reviewed them as of yet. I absolutely love Mego's and couldn't agree more with you they are awesome!
I got mine at Howard Brothers here in Morristown,TN. ... Had all the crew and only the Klingon alien ...but that was okay ... I wanted the bridge st but alas I never had it ... Still had fun with them
i loved this as a kid, but, damn, it was flimsy as hell, then i distinctly remember condensation building up behind the vinyl, trashing the cardboard, then molding up, and in the trash it had to go.
hopefully you won't! you know to be very careful with it, it's as delicate as if feels, lol. those seems will tear on ya. obviously keep it out of the sunlight and humidity and i'm sure you'll be fine. :)
@David Roberts very cool. :) i live in ohio's miami valley, basically the twilight zone of weather, and it can get very, very humid here. at the time i would have had this i would have been living in an older home (like, the original part was built in the 1840's, as i recall), so no central air, thus no doubt the condensation issue. oh, it may have just been an issue i had and no one else, lol. i never used the transporter part, but i don't remember why i didn't. wish i had those figures still, i can remember them on the shelves at gold circle.
You'd really enjoy the Animated series, which you can get on DVD, and possibly on streaming services. -- I had the bridge play set, with figures Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Uhura, and a Klingon and a Gorn. I wish I still had them. The figures were pretty cool. The play set was OK, not perfect, but still fun for a kid.
I’ve been meaning to watch it on Netflix, just haven’t got around to it. I can defiantly see why they’d appeal to kids though, and in all fairness I still think they hold up fairly well.
JohnnyRetro yea it really is a thing of beauty. I'd highly recommend trying to get another whether it's a Mego or a reproduction because it's that awesome.
Those viewscreeen printed cards were odd but so fun. I remember drawing scenes on index cards for my own scenes, but none of those survived past a couple of moves.
Yea I'm not sure whether that was in a later release or something but I prefer the console, stools and captain's chair to all be in one consistent colour.
Damn!!! I had that when I was 8. I remember I wanted it so bad because I thought the transporter really worked. Yeah I was a pretty dumb kid. I remember how disappointed I was when I realized there was a back door.
Tetsuron they were yes, I’m not sure what the differences were though. I think it may have been the colour of the front console and the captains chair.
The Mego museum website shows there were two variants, one with all blue accessories and another with mixed colours. No idea which variant the DST release uses, but it does have the DST logo on the outer shell.
wow the bridge set looks like it's in mint condition I hope you didn't get a reproduction my mego Bridge said isn't okay shape but it shows signs of wear yours like brand new really impressed with what I see
Bruce D Thanks mate! No it's an original 1975 MEGO it's written on the outside as well as sculpted on the bottom of the transporter if memory serves me correctly.
DOCTORWHO971 cool it's a beautiful piece you have there the action figures look they're in mint condition really enjoyed watching the video have a blessed day
I had this as a child. I’m 47 yrs old! I LOVED this toy! The transporter was absolute MAGIC to me!
I got mine Christmas of 1975, best present Santa ever got me....good memories.

Nice. My best friend had this set and figures when we were kids. I should say the transporter mechanism is pretty cool.
Excellent review and thank you soo much for pronouncing Mego correctly (Me-Go, NOT meg-Go) so many UK folks like to deliberately mis pronounce typical words (not talking about the traditional ones like schedule). Keep up the good work!
I still have my Enterprise Bridge and all fourteen figures from 1974 - 1976 . So many fond memories of my childhood imagination.
Does anyone else remember the time The Joker and Penguin took over the Enterprise and Kirk and Spock had to enlist Captain American and Batman to help regain control?
No? Just me?
Man, Mego was the bomb back in the 70s!
NeoGee if I remember correctly Fonzie helped too lol!
@@THEBATLAD89 Actually no he didn't, he just stood on the sidelines giving them encouraging thumbs up.
@@NeoGee 😂LOL😂
I had that bridge! I forgot how little it looked like the TV show, as a kid I did notice it but didn't care.. Space the final frontier...

My and my buddy both had this set back in the day...what a blast from the past!
Broncort1 yea it really is an awesome piece of memorabilia!

This is 100% superb. I have it to. Star Trek Mego items are fantastic. Great video.
Thanks for the kind words I couldn't agree with you anymore!
I have the whole set still boxed :p

The cheron was the race of the aliens. The one cheron was the late great Frank Gorshin.
Don't think the box art is based on the animated series - the colour scheme in that was mostly the original series. You can find episodes on TH-cam.
A beautiful souvenir of a bygone era.
I couldn't have said it any better.
i loved this as a kid, but, damn, it was flimsy as hell, then i distinctly remember condensation building up behind the vinyl, trashing the cardboard, then molding up, and in the trash it had to go.
ryan barker ah that’s to bad I haven’t had any issues with mine yet, fingers crossed.

Had one of these as a youngster. Had the yellow console with black stools. I miss it. it was a great set.
JohnnyRetro yea it really is a thing of beauty. I'd highly recommend trying to get another whether it's a Mego or a reproduction because it's that awesome.
The yellow console was found in sets coming from Canada. The Canadian playset was also slightly reduced in size.
Oh yea I remember reading somewhere that there was a smaller version of the playset.
Did you get the Sulu or Chekov from the new Mego yet?
mego made great sets the colur and stuff was to add extra play value
Those viewscreeen printed cards were odd but so fun. I remember drawing scenes on index cards for my own scenes, but none of those survived past a couple of moves.
Awesome Video. I really enjoyed it.
Christopher Gutierrez Thanks I'm really glad you enjoyed it!

zigzagbigbag Oh that’s to bad, I think there’s something really satisfying to spinning the dial and making an action figure disappear.
Wasn't this thing reissued a few years back? I remember seeing a whole bunch of these for sale on ebay for like 60-70 bucks or something.
Tetsuron they were yes, I’m not sure what the differences were though. I think it may have been the colour of the front console and the captains chair.

Tetsuron aside from that there was also a Canadian version released by Mego that was apparently a little bit smaller than the regular US version.
yes diamond select issued the figures and play set
