As a retired US Merchant Captain, I must say this episode is one of the most dynamic cinematography and editing Utube sailing video's I have experienced in my continual viewing. Nakaiy is truly a splendor to view, her shape and effortless handling is captivating. I love the Maldives area since being stationed in Singapore in shipyard which we used continuously running between Bahrain, Japan, Phillipines, etc.. You both are perfect HOSTS and we all wish you the best both sailing and in life. Thank you so much for letting us share your life. Breathtaking and very beautiful!
Hi David, this comment certainly brightens up our day! Thank you so much for spending the time writing to us. If you ever visit the Maldives please let us know, Im sure we can learn a lot from you on boating as a retired Merchant Captain. We are looking forward to share our journey with you here in Maldives.
Watched all the way, good job enjoying you two!Nice sailboat and you are learning fast.Great to see her docking and helping do maintenance on the engine and cooking.Thank you for taking us along 😍😍👍
Such a well done presentation, I was very thankful your talking about the what, when, how and all the adjustments when putting out the sails, keep up the good work!!
Thank you, im glad you enjoyed the small detail. We will add some more during the next videos. It might not always be the 100% correct way, we are also still learning 😂
Just watched this video the first that I have seen . I instantly liked you guy's, you are great to watch, very respectful of each other. I am going back to your first video until I "catch-up" . Good luck on your adventure I'm going to be following along.
I believe the way the backup started the engine the primary has a connection issue somewhere. Check every connection not just the grounds even if they look o.k. take each one off and do a complete visual , clean and reinstall. Also check each wire for an insulation problem.
The backup runs through the exact same wire as the engine motor. The backup comes from the 400 amp lithium house bank. They are all brand new wiring, it used to work perfectly until a few weeks ago, would it be a possibility that the wire from the battery to the starter is too thick? Thats what a maldivian engineer suggested? Its quite thick wire? Thanks for the help 🙏🏻
Hi, your starting problem seems to be either the engine battary not being charged by the alternator or bad earths through the engine. If you have a multimeter chev ceck the charge voltage with the engine running. It should be about 14.2 volts Check on the back of the alternator & at the engine battary. Or if you donot have a multimeter make 2 earth wires, one from the alternator to the engine earth wire & one from the starter motor to the engine earth wire. Sometimes the paint on engines & parts can act as a good insulator. I have seen it before. Good Luck.
Hi, thats good information thanks. I recently installed a brand new balmar alternatator, and it gives a good charge to the battery once im out of idle. That was one of my first thoughts too. This weekend Ill check everything single wire and connection to see if I can find the possible conductor.
Good vid. Chartering business sounds ideal, you're both well equipped for it. It'd be cool to see George flying the sea plane. Did you work out why the motor would start from the house battery but not the starter battery?
Thanks, I will try and add some seaplane clips in one of the upcoming videos! No we haven’t found the problem yet, im planning to try and figure it out this weekend. Lots of good and helpful comments.
your starting problems looking like you loosing Voltage in the system. Means its not enough to start the motor without the boost from the house batteries. Like a few already meantioned it may be a problem with the alternater. But often there are coroded wires in the system the couse. Thats why when you boost it, you get more Voltage in the system, but it also means you can have a short risk and the posibility to destroy your house battery. They are not made for those high start loads. Ok Points you can check the wires (look out for turkis spots between the conector and the cable): -alternater positive and negative -starter battery positive and negative -panel cabels (ignition switch, cables to controlboard, ... ) I think you get the idea. Please don´t forget to use your Kill Switch before doning anything to the cables ;-)
Thanks so much for all the advice. Last weekend we went out with the boat and something weird happened, its starts normal again and I havent made any changes? Its good that it works again but now bothers me even more since I dont know what the cause was, so it might come back…. The fact that it works again eliminates some of the problems it might be as you mentioned.
@@SailingNakaiy Hi you are welcome. It´s good to hear it works for the moment, but as you meantioned it might be back at some point. One possible cause I saw on other channels, can be the starter relay is bouncing in its holder. the solution was to hold it in the correct possion with a cabletie for the moment. But at least a cheap solution to test.
Great video! Some advice for your gybe preventer line. Make sure you run it around the front of the boat (in front of the mast), but make sure you run the line back to the cockpit. Just in case you need to let that line go, you can untie it from a cockpit cleat and it is free. If you tie the preventer line up on the bow cleat and something goes wrong -- you may not make it back to the bow cleat to untie the line to free it.
there is nothing wrong with the battery or the starter, you are not getting enough power from the switch to the solenoid on the starter motor. it could indicate worn contact points on the start switch or the wire is not making good contact somewhere , check all connections for the start wire to the solenoid.
Ive done a rewire on the boat, and Ive checked all the connection. Nothing seams corroded or loose. But thanks for the advice, this weekend I will remove clean and re connect everything possible linkage from the switch to the battery, solenoid and starter.
the backup battery shall be charged as well as the main battery, if the motor does not runs, than the solar system can not charge. Any start takes at least 4 A from your battery, which can be put back within 6 hours of charging. Electronics are consuming a lot.
Yes its indeed very confusing. With the 920 watt solar it gives me around 60 amps an hour charge to the batteries. Thanks for the info, I hope I can figure this out soon. 😂
Try shorting the solenoid I used to have the same clickking noise in my car until an AA tech showed me how to use a heavy insulated screwdriver to short the solenoid.
Thanks for the suggestions. I previously had a 12V 80amp battery in there and it works just fine. Now I have a 120amp installed and its giving problems? Makes sense what you say about cranking up the amps, but why? It used to work perfectly.
@SailingNakaiy added any electronics to the boat that is on the engine batteries is drawing more power that what need to crank the engine over.. if no changes have been made your battery may have a dead cell in it which keep from getting full 14 volts of of the battery normal 12v battery Is producing 13.5 to 14 volts when charging what is your volt meter telling you
The dolphin call was below average 😂 If it did work we would have been able to give you a better close up video of them. The locals here told us to call the like that, it works sometimes.
Lost me at checking the oil, please ! Over 200 sailing channels , same content, same issues, same locations. A bit difficult I suppose when everyone on a yacht does the same thing, goes to the same places and has the same boating problems. The Maldives has just been done to death but The Sailing Kiwi’s, Nahoa etc etc.
Thanks for the good feedback. When I watch other TH-cam videos I feel the same, until you have to make your own then the ideas are limited. Do you have any ideas of making things different? I would like to give it a try. Maldives has very limited information about sailing videos compared to the more known sailing hubs.
@@SailingNakaiy Thanks for taking this as constructive, I didn’t mean to throw cold water on your venture but 80% of sailing channels are about all the problems they face and they’re fair weather sailors. I like to watch the sailing, the art sailing and dealing with the yacht in all weathers. To help you may I advise you to look at some of Sailing Florence and Sailing Sweet Ruca. The later have some amazing footage of rounding The Horn. I was captivated because I’ll never get there let alone sail around it. Both channels have wonderful photography, excellent editing, the music isn’t deafening and I’m taken on a visual ride and adventure. If I watch a video and it starts off with “this is me preparing dinner, this is us eating dinner, this is us sittting in the cockpit reading , here we are again drinking coffee” my mind steps out and I’m lost. I also really don’t like getting a lecture on how I should live my life. You two guys are just setting out, you look good on camera, have a lovely boat and I presume great plans, I wish you both every success. Bruce

Thanks so much for this beautiful comment. 😊
Thanks for sharing! George eventhough you're unlucky catching fish, you were VERY lucky catching Savannah!
Thank you Bert, I caught her on the Eastern coast of South Africa. 🇿🇦 Hopefully Ill get more lucky next time catching fish.

Shower in ocean water rinse off with freshwater your water will last longer.
Wow Sailor
Mooi. That starter battery doesn’t sound right. Get its CCA tested.
Ill give that a try thanks. I will ask around for the tester and check the amps during a start for the first 30 seconds.
you need a battery with more cranking amps or maybe two batteries with high cranking amps for a diesel engine
