I also find it interesting how Zima essentially made himself in his creators image, black. There aren’t many black people throughout this film. Zima could’ve made himself into whatever he wanted to be, he even could’ve made his body using the infamous Zima blue but he didn’t. I think it really speaks to his connection and his love for his original creator.

Sorry to burst your bubble but you can see in his backstory that when he was built into a robot, he was given the appearance of a black man

It’s not about “forgetting”. It’s about “disregarding”. Just like Zima did. A conscious choice.

I get ya but probably both sides are on the same coin for this considering he disassembled himself for the sake of not having the capacity to think beyond his true nature.

i think it reflects how us humans long for satisfaction we have when we were young, before we used to dream of becoming adults so that we could do whatever we want, we buy things, we watch tv, we do what we can to make us happy, now there is still an emptiness inside, thats when we realize that being a child is the most perfect time of our life

6:33 it's actually the ship of Theseus, which is a paradox regarding identity over time. In the case of Zima, is he the pool robot he was in the beginning, or the man he became over many generations. In the end he chose to return to his humble beginnings

    • @7792pnaurfr
      @7792pnaurfr 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Yeah, he got it wrong.
      Although The ship of theseus
Is hard to apply to things with consciousness because the identity of consciousness exists as constant electrical signals. He was never the pool cleaning robot until that memory chip and AI was installed.

i believe that the whole point of this piece is to show the futile efforts people go through to seek satisfaction. even upon achieving his life’s goal ,understanding the meaning of life, zima still has nothing. he realises that it is pointless and his life is better spent subconsciously cleaning a pool than doing anything else as this is what he was made to do.

Not at all; it’s very clearly about doing the thing you’re made to do, not some stargazing self-actualization nonsense, but following your nature and instinct, because your nervous system, or, in this case, robotic’s equivalent of a nervous system, is made to specifically get satisfaction out of doing those things it’s made to do; cleaning pools until he sees the pristine zima blue color again, and, in our case, to survive and reproduce, not persue higher achievements like art or whatever else.

His story rings very true to Zen and Dao appreciators. Seeking constent fulfillment brought nothing but confusion to Zema. But by shedding his higher intelegence letting go of thought and desire and returning to simplicity he became whole. He is Zema Blue and the only way for him to truly live his life fully was to return to his nature, a pool cleaning robot.

I will say its nice to see a robot story that doesnt turn evil. Not saying those story are bad. But Zima Blue has this weird blend speculative science fiction and spiritual ponderings. This personally has a weird impact for me. The art design for this episode was the same for a show i watched when I was younger Tron: Uprising. This weird chance for my adult self to watch this episode wondering why it feels so familiar hits with the thematic nature of Zima. Zima was pursuing the color of blue he first saw cleaning the pool. For me I forgot a cartoon i really enjoyed and seeing its art direction and style coming back after all these years. Anyway thanks for listening to this rambling of mine.

Her perspective makes Zima seem like this all mighty and legendary figure.
Zima is a robot that was created, upgraded, learned everything he could and decided to go back to the simple mundane life of cleaning pools because it limited him enough to appreciate his surroundings.
I find this hard to relate with humans because we aren’t instantly born with tasks at hand.
You could say, this form of AI (Zima) was able to capture the attention and admiration of humans for years with a simple blue tile, learning the simplistic origination of Zima blue was just… the walls of a pool.
    An amazing story.

a couple things i feel definitely add to this episode
    1) from what i know, out of all the higher functions that Zima shut down, he kept just one: satisfaction. he left himself with nothing but the purpose he discovered had made him the happiest, and the ability to feel that joy and satisfaction
    2) there were apparently things cut from the original story this short was adapted from, and instead of recounting the information, I'm just gonna copy a comment from a short where Niel is told about the story (it's titled "The Fascinating Story of Zima Blue | Neil deGrasse Tyson" by Wonder Science and the comment is pinned)
In the book even he forgot his own origins.
He was improved by the descendants of his maker several times until he was advanced enough to have legal autonomy as an individual, and the family gave him his freedom.
At some point he went to a planet with advanced cybernetics techniques and paid a fortune to have himself rebuilt to be much more complex than before (including custom vat grown biological compute components), but at this point, he also forgot his past.
Later on after he became a famous artist, by chance, he mixed up a batch of a particular shade of blue, and became obsessed with it, without knowing why.
His murals and monuments to that blue became bigger and bigger, until they were city-sized, moon-sized, planet-sized, and even bigger. His following was cult, he was respected as the greatest artist ever, and he became fantastically wealthy.
He spent years investigating his origins, but his oldest memories only stretched back to the planet where he had been enhanced with organics. From there, he found his way back eventually to Earth, and excavated the pool buried two meters under the surface, in "a place that was called Silicon Valley".
The blue of the tiles meant everything to him back then, and it made him happy. After all his success, he wanted enlightenment, and so he decided to return to that state.
He shifted the pool to the planet where his home estate was located, and after he gave up his higher functions the pool became his final work of art, and would persist for thousands of years.

This video and the episode has tons of different interpretations of our thinking and our perception of life and the world. But isn't it terrifying that after gaining conscience the main thing he did for possibly hundreds of years was art the pure creation of our creativity and our ability to think and fantasise ? And how after doing it whilst having already a high intelligence he preferred to abandon his own self ? That is a terrifying thing to do !!!

I often describe it a very zen like end for Zima. I feel him on a spiritual level and while the rational part of me finds it illogical, the emotional part can't help but be awed by his sacrifice for greater purpose and meaning as he saw it.

i find myself envious of zima's ability to know the thing that will bring him happiness and mourn that i don't believe i could ever achieve that sort of peace.
because he absolutely gave up his human complexity in order to achieve it.
i hate the message this is sending me. how can something so much more advanced and capable than me also still find life so meaningless?
it makes me want to have had a creator who could have given me a purpose worth giving up my humanity for.
because i don't want to end this so negatively, i kept this open trying to find some solace in all of this heart ache for a good while.
evolution, the insatiable itch of life, that is my curse and in this story humans were able to even spread it to a machine.
and look at what it prompted him to accomplish.
    i like being human.

    • @unprocreations
      @unprocreations  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

This brings up a great point, one that I'm actually exploring in my current project i'm filming 😅
Its a totally valid takeaway from the episode, and a universal struggle with consciousness. But, my takeaway was that he realized that meaning in life is a much more simple and fundamental thing that we often already have, but aren't satisfied with (in which I think the episode paints as a side-effect of being an intelligent lifeform), or we miss it entirely. A lot of people live their lives working day to day, and they are content with it because they have contributed and I think it's important to recognize that as a valuable outlook. More often then not, the more creative you are, the more unsatisfied you are with the simple nuances of day to day living. There's a lot of ways to fulfill this, and for me it is making music and videos. But its always easier said then done, sometimes we look too far ahead, or we look too closely at what we already have. Its the constant battle between "meaningless" and "meaningful" that we all face throughout our entire lives.
I'm sorry you're still looking for that, and I hope you find it soon. Just please never give up on it! Every day is a chance to discover what you're missing, or to grow what you already have. You can do it!

I have theorize 2 possible lesson (its a uneducated guess of course)
    1. The "zima blue" is the shade of blue that is close to the color of the sky. Which many people overlook and forgot since they only care about human advancement and forgot about mother nature (this was my first thought during the 1st half of the episode, before zima explain his origin story).
    2. The 2nd lesson or the 2nd act is that its the enjoyment of being young. The life of being a child is much more happier and simple, cause you are only given simple task: such as eat, sleep, go to school and play (and probably do house chores). But as you grow older (when zima explain he used to be a cleaner and progressively advanced his technology) life become more complicated and you tend to forget to enjoy the life again. Which the quote " ignorance is a bliss" speaks closer to this episode. Which speaks louder on the end act when he disassemble himself, turning back to his early model....his younger self

    • @ben-km6uu
      @ben-km6uu 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

yes you are correct. 1. is in reference to Yves Klein, who is explicitly stated in the original novelisation to bore resemblence to Zima's own work. When Yves was 19, he declared to his friends one day on the beach that the Sky was his first work. He would go on to paint monochromatic blue canvases, which is where Zima's Blue period takes explicit reference from (borrowing the name from Picasso only). Number 2. finds itself mostly in reference to Nietzsche's stages of evolution, in which the last stage of spiritual evolution is to return back to the child, or to see everything again as a whole, as you did as a child, with the knowledge of growing up (which you lacked as a child naturally) and appreciate it all (Zima found the knowledge of the Universe "Speaking Its Own Truth" but return to his whole (cleaning the pool tiles, "and the ability to appreciate a job well done".)

I think Zima is one of many examples to take from, where, just being able to think and act "This is all I need, I am content". Then, I see and talk to many people today my age or older, the complex ones who 'I'm gonna be this and that, get rich and have all these things'. When compared to, let's say, someone who works at a petting zoo at a State Fair. Where they just take care of the animals, working day in and out in the hot and smelly of it all. Where they can say "I love my job", honestly, and that's all they need. Finding your purpose, our Zima Blue.

Like i get it, it reminds you of childhood but i feel as though people go through life and come to this conclusion of zima blue. Its crazy how 9min showed me something so simple LOL.

I'm opposed to the idea that what zima blue did to himself was good or a win in most aspects.
The whole "return to monke" / simplicity arguments is completely fair but I don't think that is what zima blue did to himself.
Zima blue basically lobotomized himself because he cannot grow past his origins any further, which I find really sad.
He has a stunning cability to act on the world around him, painting massive murals and is presumably immortal + immensely wealth.
But he can't do anything to act on himself, he is mentally still fixated on his original purpose of cleaning the pool. His hidden obessesion and inability to forgo this purpose strangles all the fulfillment out if his life.
Being a Galacticly renowned artist , a marvellously crafted being and even all works provide no fulfillment to him because of his failure to truly grow past his origins. No social relations either cause he only gains fulfillment from pool cleaning.
It is sad to see someone do something incredible only to feel empty as it is " nOt tHEre tRuE pUrpOse". If he could let go of his origins he could find fulfillment in anything he choose.
Instead he essentially self lobotomises himself because he can't escape his past and find the fulfillment he seeks that is all around him.
The story isn't like a roman emperor retiring to a cabbage farm.
It is like an alcoholic subduing their own mind because they fail to cope with the complexity of life.
Bit long but ty for coming to my Ted talk on y zima blue is a tragic character.
Also universal truth is kinda mumbo jumbo, like all truth are the same , there isn't 1 supreme extra true truth. U can value truths differently yourself but otherwise they are all the same

How did you make this good of a video, but your recent videos are so random?

Great question! TH-cam is a very casual hobby of mine, and I normally just create whatever interests me at the time: hence Un-Professional-Creations. My channel is not viable for making a platform since I don’t stick to one genre of content, but that’s okay with me because I’m not looking to become successful on TH-cam, it’s just for fun and to share with friends (and whoever else pops around).
I’m glad you and lots of people enjoyed this video, and my recent video “Meaningless Meaning” has a similar kind of vibe if you’re interested! Otherwise I can’t make no promises about what I’ll do next, so sorry about that 🫤

@@unprocreations Thanks for your reaction, honestly respect this attitude. Even listened to one of your song "maybe this time" and I really like with it.

Definitely fair, and why I didn’t end up calling it an analysis. More just something I was passionate about and wanted to look further into
