- Three days hiking in the Simien Mountains. Simien is known for some of the best treks in Africa, it is UNESCO World Heritage site.
Day 1: Sankaber to Geech camp (5 hours); Day 2 - Geech Camp - Imet Gogo - Chenek camp (7 hours); Day 3 - Around Chenek (4 hours). Also footage of Gelada Baboons and Walia Ibex.
Recorded February 2014 in HD with Panasonic TM900.

My family is from this area. I currently resides in USA as a general contractor and a private pilot. when I saw that Plato @3:16I thought about building a lodge& restaurant with a private runway. It has been 20 years here maybe it’s time to go back.

We were told that second half of September/October is the best time to visit, right after the rains as the mountain is fresh green and the air is the clearest. That was impossible for me as I combined this trip with Dallol, which is best in the winter.

semen mountain is the greatest historically place in Ethiopia. it is the greatest wealth to the country. how ever it should be redevelopment by every thing. the animals which are found in the semen mountain park are the only animals in the world. so they have to get take care for their life. the views are attractive. every tourist are enjoying at the time of visiting. the government and the people of Ethiopian have to give consent ration for redevelopment of the semen mountain park. thank you with respectfully.
Beautiful, but if only you had gone in the wet season. Then you would have seen it in its full glory. The driest time of year for hiking is from December to March but at the end of the rainy season, in October, the land is a riot of green. Wildflowers bloom in August and last well into October.
no doubt would be nicer, but I had to chose this season to travel to Etiopia for Dallol, it had to be the coldest time of the year ...
According to GENESIS 2:13 in our Holy Bible, Ethiopia was once called UTOPIA. The Garden of Eden or PARADISE where God created his people from his very own image. All of life started In Africa's Ethiopia . I defy any to go there & feel the true Spirit of God's realm.

Great video. I am trekking these mountains in March and unsure how many days to go. Looks like the videographer went 3. Thanks for sharing, great help for trip planning.
Yes, I did two and a half days (you need half a day to return to Gonder). You can use more days if you want to climb the highest peak, but for the most scenic views you need three days.
So days 4 and 5 are more of the same with difference being ascension to peak? Do you go on a loop or out and back? I can only compare it to Ciudad Perdida trek which is 4 days or 5 days.
I am debating if 5 days is too much, just right or not enough. I am a 2-week warrior so i have to be judicious w the days ... but a day up in those mountains looks its weight in gold so i have no problem lingering.
David Sebastian If you go for the highest peak Ras Dashen 5 days might be right, or maybe even 6. If you are looking to cover the most scenic views in short period of time, as Ethiopia has so much more to offer, these 3 days are quite efficient trip.

What I knew about Gonder, and Semien Mounts is that it was covered with forest so thick, people used to frighten to inter. So many books and stories. Picture as well. At this moment it's not recognizable.
If people are not start planting trees, dessert is at the door knocking.

Ras Dejen is the tallest mountain in Ethiopia. It is one of many high mountains in the Simien Mountains. Buahit, Aba Yared, Imet Gogo and others are also high.
At 1:26 do you see that face etched on that cone shaped rock almost in the middle? His hair is on the middle of that rock ,under it his eyebrows and then nose , his chin with beard is at the bottom of that rock. It is sort of hobby for me to find faces or other man made pictures or statues carved on the rocks that nobody talks about them. btw that should be ancient. You must focus on it to see it. WOW, just I notice something, you can't put scaffolds on a huge mountain to carve or etch that face on that mountain , that means those people were airborne or in a flying vehicle when carving that image, must be far far ancient!!
