I find it funny how you're one of the only people who is making videos of this headset yet. Seems everybody else got it early and has agreed to wait until the release date.
FYI there is a headband in the box, I've seen it in other unboxing videos and its listed on the website as coming with all units: it goes from the two 'ears' across the top of your head (side to side versus front to back) ive also read (but unconfirmed) the headband can be used on top OR behind the head when going without the battery
@@SimonsDrones Good to know, its likely better for balance on top of the head than extra support across the back, thanks for your videos, watching each one you do and upvoting, im only a week from getting mine so im getting pretty excited (and also going through VR withdrawals haha)
can confirm - the band rotates and its recommended to be used behind the head when in glasses mode. definitely helps to shift balance if it's too heavy on your nose or forehead 👍
Just got mine in yesterday. Did some steam games and Aio and it's amazing. I'm coming from CV1 but there are so few that can accommodate my 72 ipd and no need for glasses is amazing. The glasses with power bank is the way to go for travel.
I appreciate your impressions of the headset. I've been thinking of ordering one but lots of the unmeasured specs worry me when it comes to VR headsets, comfort being a primary one so this video is a big help. I'm also curious about your impressions of the built in speakers and microphone on the headset, since there's not much details about it other than marketing fluff. Keep up the good work and thanks again for the video!
Thanks for your comment and I am glad I could offer some help. Ultimately, comfort is a very individual experience since we all have different head shapes, sizes and tolerances. The mic is probably the best headset mic from HTC so far - although the bar from them is quite low. I have a TH-cam short uploaded with a mic test if that helps. I heard the speakers were not that good, but I have been very satisfied with them. A little weak at the lows, but honestly not too bad.
Have you tested glasses mode with any other Usb C PD sources; to help better understand the true power demands? For example, plugging directly into a wall wart with a continuous predictable output of 30w or 45w. Portable battery packs can have very unpredictable outputs, due to thermal management circuits, but that should be significantly less problematic straight from the wall.
I shopped around, that's a great power bank. Thanks! 👍🏾 P.S. If you do pick this Power Bank up make sure you get the 2023 updated redefined edition. imuto 100w Power Bank with 90w 26800 milliamp hour USB-C to USB-C Charger Bundle... It has some updates over last year's (2022) model. There is no 27000 milliamp hour sold on Amazon, that is a typo on last year 2022 model. It's basically the same unit but with lesser batteries and chips. Three lithium ion battery cells (2022) instead of four inside the redefined edition (2023). Note: Don't buy out-of-date products.
Yes, but only for a short time. It is a very thin strap and does not seem to have much effect for me. It is nothing like the headband that other VR headsets have. I think it is more intended for smaller heads just to make sure the headset does not fall down to the shoulders.

Amazon links can be a bit weird, if the item is not available to you then Amazon auto-redirect you to something they think is similar. Try searching for 'imuto power bank' and see if you can find it that way.
Hi there. Thanks for the video, this feature is the main reason I'm interested in the XR elite. Good to know that it grips the head well. How is it if you pull it up and rest it on your head like a pair of goggles? Also as others have pointed out the links in the description could do with fixing up, no link to powerbank and the amazon listing goes to a vive pro not an xr elite
Thanks for your comment. The link to the headset must be a bug, as I have tested it and it works for me. As for resting the headset on top of your head, it doesn't really work very well. I have tried it but would be worried about it falling off lol.
@@SimonsDrones I see, must be an issue with amazon then. I'm on mobile and when clicking the link it shows a vive pro kit. searching for vive XR Elite there is no option to purchase.
I have a question about the power bank. Have you had a chance to try any other power banks? A 60watt output should power 30 watts continuous without issue.
I did try some cheaper power banks that didn't work at all, but I did not expect them too. To be honest, I would take most of the advertised outputs (such as "60W" or "100W") with a grain of salt as I have no idea how they have been measured. However, the 100w output works with no issues here.
I have my XR too, and I preferably prefer wired PC streaming to the headset since I can’t get an ethernet connection to my PC. The problem is, I have no way of maintaining the headset’s charge WHILE being connected to the PC. If anyone has any solutions that could help, its very greatly appreciated. I’ve even tried using the Kuject cable connected to a 100Watt power adapter, but it just doesn’t work, I’m at a loss because this is quite literally the perfect headset for me, but this is the one big caveat I have.
Oh that's interesting. I have not really tested wired streaming myself but that sounds like a bit of an issue. I will have a play about myself to see if I can figure out what is going on there, but might be worth dropping HTC a support request?
@@SimonsDrones Thanks for the reply, man! Yeah with the Vive streaming app, you can connect it with a link cable and get the best clarity and speeds without relying on wifi. I will ask Vive about it, but if all else fails, I’ll most likely have to get just a spare battery cradle, and swap and charge it out if I wanted continuous PC usage.
On an added note, I heard that the Vive Focus 3 has the exact same problem when connected to the PC, the devices are quite power hungry, so it was probably necessary to have the hot swappable batteries.
Well the thing is, with a powered USB port on your computer you can use the headset in glasses mode (without the battery connected at all). So, if the battery is discharging when it IS connected hopefully that is something that can be fixed in a firmware update.
@@rangerkayla8824on Quest 2 and Quest Pro I can clearly see a difference with link cable and wifi 6 (dedicated router via ethernet cable next to my PC). Even while no development on wired, 500 encode bit rate beats wireless bit rate easily. Wireless is still quite decent but not same. Display port is another step yes. For some games you may not notice much different. So it is game dependent.
When streaming from a PC by USB, in my limited testing, the quality is just the same over the stream as if it were native. At least to me, though I am getting old and so its possible others could notice a difference. But to me, it is perfect.
@@GodisGreater01 If you pre-order you get five titles included, however only one (a Guitar Hero type game) is currently available lol. The main Viveport store is also still quite bare, with a lot of games listed as 'Coming Soon'. Most of my gaming I do through wireless PCVR.
@@SimonsDrones that's what I thought. I need a new computer before I get the vr headset to play more games. I hope they bring more games out for the headset soon.
Is it possible to plug the headset in glasses mode into the PC for „cable pcvr“ and have the Headset powered or do you still need 2 cable for power and data transfer like with the HTC Vive Cosmos? I like about the PSVR that you can connect it only with 1 cable to the Playstation and wonder if the HTC vive xr elite can do the same.
Thanks for your comment. You can play PCVR over USB in glasses mode, with no battery connected. You will just need to make sure the USB port on your computer is a powered port.
I find it funny how you're one of the only people who is making videos of this headset yet. Seems everybody else got it early and has agreed to wait until the release date.
Interesting. Could be because the bigger TH-camrs get their headset for free so have to agree to embargo dates maybe?
