If it showed up in an experimental EDM track or a current gen video game, it wouldn't sound like an 8-bit throwback, it would stand up on its own. Truly outstanding sound design in Earthbound, especially given the technological limitations of the SNES.

I absolutely love the ambience when you enter giygas’s lair and approach the devils machine, it really reinforces the idea that you’re inside a living, breathing organism and the complete change in tone as soon as you get to this point of the game is unlike anything i’ve really seen before.

never knew Giygas was actually a living,breathing thing before earthbound,its evil had released in another dimensional plane,to make its evil back into a biotic creature,it had to destroy worlds,then,when ness played the Eight Melodies,giygas ended up dying due to the creature in Mother 1/Earthbound Beginnings memories flood back and the creature killed itself off to punish himself from doing the horribly wrong thing i made this theory up back when Mother 1 had a translation on the Wii U Virtual Console,but not 3DS (how odd)
imagine, your'e a little kid, close to beating the game, your parents even let you stay up just to beat it. your'e hopes are up. so close... something blocks you, your'e frozen in fear. it's now midnight. can't turn it off now. your'e forced to sit there and watch this thing distort in front of you. the ambience in the background, heavy in your ears. at first it seems okay. all it you have to do is fight pokey. then gigyas loses control. all you can do now, is pray.
