Nice tutorial, thank you =D 0:19 > "ctrl+J": duplicate bg layer> layers panel: select the new duplicated layer> move it to the top> blend=soft light> hit "create new layer" icon, rename="fog" 0:54 > "Q": turn on quick mask mode> top panel: filter, render, difference clouds 1:08 > note: now you can see the actual mask in color as in quick mask mode "Q": turn off quick mask mode> "shift+F5": open fill window> fill window: color=white> hit "OK"> "ctrl+D": deselect selections> layers panel: eye on/off the fog layer, to check the result> note: to make fog effect larger and smoother, enlarger the fog layer> layers panel: select the fog layer, rename="fog small"> "ctrl+J": duplicate it, rename="fog large"> note: so we can keep a smaller fog layer> "ctrl+T": enlarger the layer> top bar: w/h=200%> "V", canvas: move the fog large layer around, where the fog hides the character in a much less way
I use basically the same method as I find it gives the best results, but I tend to do 2 or three Cmd Js and delete the fog around different objects on different layers to give depth. Then I put the front layer, one where I have deleted nothing at about 30% opacity. I also try to give each layer a different free transform. Now I've written that I realise just how good you video is, you obviously explained much better than I can.
I prefer to copy the fog layer 3 times, 1 make 200%, one i leave 100% and 1 i make it 300-350%, and then i just adjust opacity of each until i obtain the best effect.
I’ve seen a few comments on the size of clouds being too small. Have a look at your canvass size. If you have a smaller photo / canvass, you’ll get the effect as per the tutorial. If you try to use a mammoth canvass size, you will get pin prick clouds. Very useful tutorial and what I was looking for, thank you 🙏
Maybe I'm just getting old, but it's so hard to read the menus & follow along in real time, but I think I can swing it! Thank God I can Seek & Pause. Thank You!
My difference cloud pattern is much much smaller than shown in your video. I have maybe 1000 small clouds in the image. How can I increase the size of the clouds from the start? If I just increase it by dragging the size of the layer the clouds get really pixelated.
Hey thanks buddy :) Simple and clear. I like how you don't use shortcuts to do scaling, etc. Keep it up. By the way, may I ask what for is the soft light? Because my photo is a night photo and when I apply soft light it gets really dark.
Hi there! Photoshop wouldn't allow me to do this action. Said : Could not complete the "difference clouds command" because the selected area is empty! (I tried doing it on a layer mask and don't work either) Please help!
Wtf?! I didn't get the fog effect @ 1:38 In my document it, after exiting quick mask it got the selection, but once I filled it with white it just didn't show up on the image.
you will see render filter in filter menu or filter gallery. If ur unable to use it then change the Bit Depth, select Mode -> 8 Bits / Channel under the Image menu.
@@MasterWoof371 I'm not preventing anyone from doing anything moron. That's pretty obvious. I'm actually all for people doing this kind of stuff. Just stop calling it photography.
@@MasterWoof371 at what point is it no longer a photograph. When you start adding things that weren't there to begin with I see it more as graphic design. Regardless, If you want to make fake photographs, go ahead. I just personally think it defeats the purpose and is tacky
This tutorial is really O.K. Together with the Photoshop RAW-Filter "Dehaze" to left, I will get the perfect fog. But the background music in this clip - terrible!

2023 presentation here 😮
how do you change the shape of the clouds? Mine are always set to smaller ones that look like shitty blobs.
The most useful, simple, and smart video I ever watched. well done my friend.
Wow, it worked and it was easy to follow. Thanks

A clever way to create fog. Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure
I got a bunch of teeny spots. They look nothing like fog, it's weird and I don't know how to fix it or to do what you're doing :/
Thank you for the tip.Much better than using mist brushes I think !
Yes :)

use quick mask option before applying difference clouds. ctrl+f multiple times will alter the clouds pattern try it
@@psdesireYT didnt work bro
the cloud pattern changes but the size remains small only
Love the intro music... Artist and song please?
Thank you. I needed a fast solution. Exactly what im looking for.
This is fab thanks. Can I add a gradient to the fog so that its thicker at the bottom?
very informative, easy to follow
It works nicely :)
Thank you for this video! It was helpful to have the steps in the description box as well. :)

yes if i use shortcuts beginners can't understand it. Softlight gives more contrast and some glow in overall image.
for night photos first increase shadows and then apply softlight
Nice video... Thanks a lot....

Same problem, idk either.
@master_debater thanks for the help, jackass.
When I delete quick mask it doesn't leave the lines?
Wtf?! I didn't get the fog effect @ 1:38 In my document it, after exiting quick mask it got the selection, but once I filled it with white it just didn't show up on the image.

Works. Thank you.

Love it! Thanks!
Very Good!

Where can I get the render effect?
what render?
PSDESIRE - Photoshop Tutorials & Photography Tips in 1:07 you go to Effects > Render
you will see render filter in filter menu or filter gallery. If ur unable to use it then change the Bit Depth, select Mode -> 8 Bits / Channel under the Image menu.
it's not even letting me access the mode section the under image tab :/..
THANKS A LOT !! ❤❤
the original one is better LoL
Adding fog is stupid as fuck anyway. That's the kind of shit that is ruining real photography
Brandon Pickett Not really if you're into artistic photography, and want to create something unique.

clouds are not showing when exported! help!
thank you!
i follow your steps ,, didn't work with me quick mask ..im using cc 15.5 thank you
Thanks
I create a quick mask, but can't add clouds because the layer is empty.
add new layer, turn on quick mask mode and add clouds filter to new blank layer then exit quick mask mode. that's it
for me it says could not complete the difference clouds command because the selected area is empty.
You need to select quick mask tool 1:10 and then select difference clouds
Good job.
thanks
