Collecting and wearing jerseys is always a nice feeling! I always appreciated the quality and craftsmanship behind the uniforms that sports athletes wear, which is why I expect a little more from brands like Mitchell & Ness, Nike etc.

That is crazy yo. I've washed my Magic Johnson swingman like 2 or 3 times, still looks new. I have a feeling people don't really know how to wash em sometimes. Cold water, lowest setting, and no dryer has done the trick for me even at the terrible washing machines at my college dorms lol
The thing is, people have different ways of washing their garments. Even in the extremes of putting your setting on high, there is always that risk of when you throw your jerseys in there. If I were to wash my jerseys in the washer, I would hand wash everything lol😅 thats just me though🤷🏽♂️
@@REZRECTION you're right about that, probably varies from washing machine to washing machine. I think I find that I just don't care enough about a swingman to take the utmost care for it because I use them like hell. I care just enough though to keep them from peeling. I don't think I've washed my authentics yet though from how rarely I use em lol. I'll probably dry clean em like you do.

Dry cleaners. All my jersey’s go to the dry cleaners. But I also make sure my swing man jersey’s have a stich these new swingmans are not worth the money at all.
The one problem with taking your jersey to the dry cleaners is that the care label states, “no dry cleaning.” At least the NFL Legacy jerseys do, and they are heat pressed as well.
I haven’t had any issues taking my jerseys to the cleaners. Depending on who is caring for your jerseys at the cleaner, they should know not to apply any heat directly on the numbers/letters
Yeah once you go authentic its so hard to go back to swingmans especially since the names, numbers, logos are heat pressed on the NBA jerseys now. I recently bought 3 swingmans because the authentic ones are no longer available or have never been made. I bought a white Pippen, a 1994 Olajuwon, and 1985 Magic Johnson purple. I used a 30% off on them. I also own Dr. J, Duncan, and Nowitzki Reebok swingmans and a Shaq Nike lakers swingman.
Now the Nike NFL limited, and M&N NFL legacy jerseys are actually better than NBA swingman. Those continue to be single stitched.
I too do not put my jerseys in the wash or wear them too often, never to the gym or when I go for long walks.
All about preserving your stuff can’t knock on it, especially nowadays with the current swingmans we get from Nike, Mitchell ness etc.

I have to say I am ok with the Nike Swingman as long as I put them in a washing bag and wash at very low temperature and low cycle.
The new M&N Swingman on the other hand are a complete waste of money for me. Bought one Pippen jersey and one O‘Neal Magic jersey and the name and numbers of both feel so cheap! Cheap plastic glued on. And they want 90 EUR for this in Germany where I live. Unbelievable.
Have one M&N authentic (Jordan, Bulls) and the difference in quality is just extraordinary.

Yes sir and that goes for authentic jerseys as well. I usually dry clean all of my authentics and if I do put them in the washer I follow the directions.

Swingmans are cool if you want that super-obscure player in a super-obscure alternate uniform that M&N doesn’t make authentics for. But I wish they just stuck to authentics because of the quality & specs of that year jersey.

Dopeeeeee video Brotha! So personally i wash my jerseys on a need to basis, i usually wash as per care tag but gentle and cold wash with liquid soap or hand wash is usually how i go, then i line dry Always. Sometimes i use scout for stains as well.

@@gsteve8198 As long as the numbers/letters aren’t being dry cleaned directly, itt should be fine if they steam clean the polyester with care. I would just be specific with them if you decide to bring them in.
@@REZRECTION dude I would never trust a cleaners to be that specific. Just follow the care instructions on the tag. Cold water wash inside out with woolite and line dry it. Something tells me the guy who washed his jerseys in those pics probably used hot water and dogged those jerseys. And honestly how dirty are the jerseys really getting if a person isn't doing physical activities in them?
@@gsteve8198 I’ve taken some of my rarest of pieces to the cleaners with no problems even after they have been instructed to not get dry cleaned.
What it boils down to is how comfortable you feel handing off your garments to the cleaners. There are home remedies which some have mentioned in the comments. Bleach pens, steam cleaners, or the pen stain removers are also proven to be helpful
Hey res! I bought a swingman Knicks Jersey last year ( ewing ) and when I opened it I saw it was stitched ( obviously fake). At the same time I bought some Adidas knicks shorts and I'm unsure on those as the Knicks badge is stitched on. These days I normally stick to the vintage Reebok jerseys as I like their quality of materials and I like the stitching. 🙏🏻✌

Honestly, i bought a bunch of jerseys just for collection, but if yo have to clean or wash your jersey, my advice is to put it in a washing bag which reduces the damage while cleaning.

Great video. As crazy as it sounds, I never throw my jerseys in the wash. I spray Febreze on that and use my steam cleaner for all my jerseys. And the handy Tide pen for any small stains.

I found that washing machine tablets and fabric softener ruined my Jerseys, but washing on low temperature and just with normal washing powder has been fine for me. They now come out fine every time.

I hand wash all my jerseys, dry cleaners just spray cleaning solution on the stains then steam press. Doesnt always work and usually leaves a dried in stain. Jerseys dont be long in the washer, period!
As long as you wash them properly, there should be no issues, but you have to know exactly what your doing if doing with that method.
I’m sick of people putting swingman jerseys down. Maybe they don’t know how to wash a damn jersey. A jersey is a jersey. It can happen to any jersey.

Wash the jersey either warm or cold and don't put them in the dryer, just hang dry cause it'll dry quick since it's polyester fabric.

I know what this guy is going thru back in 2018 I bought a M&N Replica 1985 Walter Payton (Home) I bought at a little sports shop in Memphis this was back when the Replica was great quality Jersey well one day I got a stain on it so when I was at work my dad was doing laundry so he decided to wash my Jersey well he put it in the dryer and well you know it ended up worse than the Pippen and Kemp so I know what this guy is going thru. Since then I try to be extra careful with my jerseys so I just them dry cleaned luckily they dry cleaner is literally a 1 minute away from my home. Tbh you know I like to collect the old M&N Runs back when they were big guy friendly I like the baggy Jersey look. I think the quality in M&N Jerseys as the years go by get worse and worse.

Soccer jerseys here in Europe will last for a decade or more time. The problem with NBA jerseys is they have to stitch numbers and letters with a textile materials, not using vinyls or craps like that. Textile stitched. If you printed numbers and letters directly on the polyester with the past of time, a little time, this materials will peel it soon.
100 euros here in Spain for a Jersey with what you can do any sport, only stroll and having the maximum care to last is for me a wasted money.
Soccer jerseys are better in that way. They resist washing machines, scratches, etc...

I started collecting last year and I thought heat pressed was a norm for M&N swing man, when I saw an authentic its night and day for a difference. I stopped getting swingman started collecting first gen Addidas or Nike cause its stitched. Appreciate the video man!

The swingmans used to be stitched on the M&N jerseys but idk why they decided to change it to heat press a few years ago

ive never had a problem, washing any sports jersey from any organization, screenprinted or stitched. even the fake ones. ive used a bunch of different washers. never had problems. wash on cold/hang everything. all my things look like new
that being said ive never had a swingman, only replica(fast break) and authentic. the replica has held up great!

Wash INSIDE OUT on cold with a delicate setting if possible.
Wash each jersey ONE AT A TIME.
Once finished NEVER put in dryer. Always hang dry.
For stains, use Oxy Clean Laundry stain remover spray. $3-4 for a whole bottle. Rub the stains with the oxy clean to get them out. Multiple sprays may be needed. Wash and see how great it works!
I’ve bought authentic Jordan jerseys with minor stains on them for so cheap and it took me 1 application of oxyclean and 1 wash to get them looking like new

I own some swingman jerseys and i wear them to big crowded events and always get mad respect or find myself in a conversation with a stranger who gives me a nod.The only jerseys i dont wear to close quarters crowds are white home jerseys.

I own mostly nhl jerseys and some basketball jerseys. My number one peiece of advice is never ever EVER WASH A JERSEY. Some of mine are over ten years old and still look like new. Don't eat, drink, play with them on . Just ve carefull and once its dirty oh well
I get authentic jerseys when it comes to my favorite players/teams but I buy swingman when I want to where a jersey in order to color match with clothes/kicks.. To give an Example of the ones I own.. I’m an Eagles/Phillies/Sixers fan and have Authentic Kelly Green Reggie White, Mike Schmidt Baby Blue/Maroon and ‘96 Allen Iverson White/Blue/Red. In Swingman have Mike Bibby Grizzlies Aqua/Teal color, Kevin Garnett Wolves 95 Blue, And George Gervin Spurs Black. I have quite a few more, I love my jerseys and I have always taken mine to the dry cleaners. Never had the issues from what was shown because I don’t trust household washers to be delicate regardless of what they say they can do. Whether you spent $130 or $300, I suggest spending the $1-$3 at your local dry cleaning and just having it taken care of properly.

@@howiep6159 Nice try but I don’t live in PA nor am I into CFB enough to have a favorite team. Penn state fans are usually middle of the state people unless you attended. I’m from NJ, South Jersey to be exact and I’m only 10min from the stadiums by the bridge. It started in the 80s playing little league baseball and pop Warner football they would take us to see games every year plus my father was really into baseball so the Phillies was the team I saw about 10times each year. I played Saftey and LB so naturally I was drawn to Buddy Ryans Eagles since they’re one the greatest defensive teams of all time. Sixers are the team where I would give you credit lol. I do root for them because they’re local and I just want to see the excitement from my people when they win it one day.
I have a pippen bulls jersey as well and it looks just like the one in the pic l, for it to get like that he had to had washed it a whole a lot of times, it’s took me aleast 2 and 1/2 yrs before it started to fade ( not cappin at all ) my magic swingman and Knicks swingman took even longer to fade.
That’s so disappointing to see especially for a swingman that’s priced at 100+ dollars! Smh.

Are those damaged jerseys from the same owner? If that's the case, it could be that he just doesn't know how to wash it. I have couple of swingmans (latest heat pressed version) and I've washed each of em at least once so far and it honestly looks just the same. No damage whatsoever. I think people just need to know how to wash em
Yes, as far as I know, they all belonged to the same person. With proper care swingmans new or old will hold, but any hard wear and tear will result in them breaking down over time. I’m glad yours still held up!
It is obvious that these people are responsible for this mess. They don't know how to wash and dry a jersey properly. You have to be an idiot to throw your jersey in the drier. Swingman jerseys are ok if you know how to take care of them. Of course authentic jerseys are much much more durable and nice looking but I think it's ridiculous the fact that you have to give a fortune in order to buy just one jersey, the same time that you can buy two or three swingman jerseys with the same amount of money.
They got a very good opinions in community in the past so now they are decreasing standards of quality. Currently MITCHELL & NESS swingman jerseys are crap without even single stitched. Bad choice. People are not stupid.

I have football jerseys (Nike vapor, M&N authentic) basketball jerseys (M&N swingman and authentic and Nike Swingman) and soccer jerseys (Liverpool new balance and Nike) and I have washed them all on hand wash cycle with cold water numerous times and line dry them and they all look brand new. I think some of these people didn’t follow the wash directions. I may be wrong, but as many times as I washed mine, I should have encountered this by now. Mine have no wear and tear at all.

I think as long as you care for your jerseys properly, they will last you for a very long time!
On the flip side, I still believe that the quality has still declined in recent years, but are still manageable 🙏🏽

I sit a certain way in the car to make sure the numbers dont get bent haha. Seriously, i do treat them like they are my kids. But, I do wash them, and have never had a single issue as long as it was what the tag suggested. :)

Low delicate wash setting and hang dry. No drying machine. But definitely the swingmans are cheap and trash. You have to add actual tackle twill from a local shop to bring them up to par.
Jerseys shouldn’t have to be taken to the shop for adding twill especially not for the price they are charging them for nowadays imho!
I have many Mitchell & Ness swingman jerseys and that hasn’t happened to any of them. I wash all of my jerseys in cold water and let them hang dry.

That’s weird. I don’t have any M&N swingman but I have a few authentics and several Nike swingmans. I’ve washed them inside out multiple times and just let them air dry and they’re fine
It really all depends on how the person washes their garments. Some people may have different settings which is probably why they get damaged (like the ones in the pics I provided) while others use a very gentle cycle on theirs 🙏🏽

Agreed! Turn inside out. Keep separate from other clothing meaning only wash NHL jersey's (whites separate from the darks).
Separate wash for MLB uni's inside out (separate whites away from darks).
And again same thing with the NBA's jersey's. Separate wash but keep the whites separate from the dark jerseys.
I keep the cycle on all my jersey's on delicate cycle, always cold water and as minimal liquid detergent depending on jersey load. Have not had any issues thus far.
One issue I had was my Curry Adidas swing man. And although I only washed it like 1-2 times a season, the sublimated letters of "Curry" started peeling. I've since retired that jersey completely. I now only shop for the Nike Authentic cut. Or if I can find the smallest size, the previous Adidas Rev 30 on court jersey.

They are drying them is why they fell apart not washing them. You don’t dry any jersey. No way those jerseys did that just washing them

I know mentioned you currently take your jerseys to the dry cleaner, but is it safe to say that the jerseys that are chipping and filing part like the Pippin and Kemp are the one's you steadily put in the washer machine and possibly the dryer as well? Thanks for watching! I’m assuming the ones shown in my video were thrown in the dryer on a very heavy setting. Dryers and jerseys should never be mixed together.

The NBA for years used Champion or Nike I also think each team could use a different brand if they wanted too I know Apex & Adidas was used at some point the 97/98 season with the Chicago’s bulls used Nike. You can look all this up on google they also used brand’s you don’t recognize or at least I didn’t. I will say this tho I like the M&N brand Jersey’s Shorts etc etc the BEST!!! I did have some pro cut champion Jordan jerseys back in the late 90’s the away & black pinstriped jersey’s & I had the Nike Vince Carter UNC jersey & shorts which I wish I still had along with my MJ champion pro cut jerseys but I lost them all back in high school due to trading or selling them. I never had any pro cut MJ jersey’s made by Nike other then his rookie year jersey but Nike wasn’t making the jerseys for the NBA or bulls in 84/85 then. But out of all the pro cut jerseys I’ve had Champion, Nike & M&N the M&N is by fair the BEST!!!
I always thought u was supposed to dryclean them types , I ain’t wore jerseys in a long time but back in the day I dry cleaned all mines never had no issue
You should dry clean them but yes they definitely have gone down in quality.

The new Nike Authentics are basically the Old stitched swingman jerseys just 2X the price.
There’s many differences compared to older Nike swingmans.
Looks like these pics were stoned washed in a local river lol... I've washed hundreds of jerseys hundreds of times just on cold/gentle in a normal washing machine, then hang dry... something not right with those pics lol
Lololol, I’m sure he probably washed them on a really bad setting, however, I have seen peeling on swingman shorts so I believe this will happen if miswashed/mishandled! It’s authentics for me moving forward!

At the end of the day, if they are asking me for recommendations on finding authentic jerseys without getting ripped off, the obvious choice would be to buy directly from Mitchell & Ness, Nike, Adidas etc.
Some people prefer other third party sites like eBay, poshmark, Mercari, because you can find deals, but still have to be cautious when searching on those sites 🤷🏽♂️

Swingmans are always only single stitched and always printed on for any graphic or design that's more than one layer (i.e. celtics jersey you wouldn't have this problem) but don't shit on M&N an nike about Quality! he should have spent the extra couple dollars and got the real thing I understand not everyone can afford 250-300$ jerseys but half the price half the quality or dry cleaned his jerseys you don't machine wash swingmans!
and his jerseys look like they were washed MULTIPLE times as a kid I washed my swingman jerseys and they looked like this after like 6 washes or on high heat settings.
Agree 💯 The quality has gone downhill for the swingmans, but they should at least continue to keep them single stitched.

I don't but swingmans anymore so idk what the difference between the older and newer M&N ones are but they press everything now????

Reebok and adidas swingman jerseys from the early 2000s are great quality and stitched. I still have several that look new. I stopped buying new ones when they switched to screen print. Looks cheap. With Mitchell and ness their quality has dropped by a shocking amount. Even their t shirts are garbage now.
Definitely agree the quality has dropped so much since then. I don’t buy anymore m&n swingmans anymore either.

No. They’re made of polyester which doesn’t shrink. Unless the jersey is constructed of cotton or wool (I.e. baseball flannels) you should be good.
If you care about your Jersey 94 any piece of clothing….NEVER PUT THEM IN THE DRYER. Even your authentic jerseys will get ruined in the dryer

@@REZRECTION I’ve been having swingman from Nike, Adidas, and Mitchell and Ness from 04 to now and never damage any them. I take care of them when I wear them and if I get a stain on them I take it straight to the dry cleaners within the next 48 hours.
