    Method #1 works well in a large stainless steel pot; I would not pour boiling water into a plastic bowl. Be certain the cloth is 100% cotton to avoid scratches (silver is a soft metal).

      The plastic bowl I have used is microwave safe and can withstand temperature, hence used it.. Anyway, thank u for the suggestion!

    Can you use this method for gold as well?

    • @VykarsGarnet
      @VykarsGarnet  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have no idea how aluminium reacts with gold, so can’t say exactly if you can apply the same process for gold! Sorry..

    What kind of "contamination" do you avoid by using plastic forks?

      @@VykarsGarnet This has nothing to do with a contamination.

    Can we use alminium tray instead

    • @VykarsGarnet
      @VykarsGarnet  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes we can.. I have used aluminium tray at the end of the video, but aluminium foil gives better results.. Make sure water is piping hot throughout the process.. 😊

    I actually tried this on a silver car idol, it actually worked. But the silver now looks like white metal, it does not look like silver. Does it look that way?

    • @VykarsGarnet
      @VykarsGarnet  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There wouldn’t be any change in the color of silver.. Possible reason that it appeared that way is, we get used to the darker version after days of usage and it appears bright as white metal to the eyes when washed thoroughly..

      Interestingly, It can distort the surface finish on Silver. Googls "educational innovations, the chemistry of silver tarnish". This article describes how the tarnish on silver is called silver sulphide, a compound of silver and sulphur. Sulphur has an affinity for bonding with Aluminium more than it does with silver. The hot water bakimg soda reacts so that the sulpher is pulled from the silver and attaches to the aluminium. The problem described in the commemt section of the article, is that when the sulpher is being pulled from the silver, it dislodges the atoms of the silver. Owing to a diffuse look as apposed to smooth. It's incredible that it's perceptible by the human eye. I read a lot of articles on this topic after finding this method. Silver smiths advise not using it. What you can do however is break out some good silver polish and polish the car idol well. This will gently bring the soft silky finish back to your silver.
