- You can remove spot welded panels quickly and easily with no special tools. Most importantly, this method won't cause damage to the panel underneath. This is helpful when you want to remove a bracket or part and the end product will be exposed, or when separating second hand body panels to be used as repair panels for your project.

Great video, this will save me so much time. Thank you from the UK
This looks like a great way to do it. I used a spot weld cutter before and hated every second of it
Thank you so much , I'm trying to restore a 65 IH Scout and you just showed me how to remove the spot welds. Thanks again
No problem!
Looks great man ! So many ways and tools to get the job done right 👍 sharing tricks of the trade! Anyone starting out pay attention experience and sound advice best tools in your box ! Love the videos man !
Thanks, I appreciate it! Not many people are interested when I make vlog type videos but hopefully if I try to share some knowledge they’ll want to follow along! Gets me motivated to work on the project too.
Wouldn’t a smaller diameter die grinder wheel (say 2 in.) work better at localizing the grind-through area?
I just started tearing down my 68 cougar. Been watching a ton of videos on removing spot welds. I really like your technique. Would you recommend using a air chisel to help?
Thanks! I don't think it would hurt if you're careful. Your 68 Cougar probably has a lot thicker sheet steel than this 90s VW has. Just keep an eye out for any deformation on the part that you want to keep.
@@LucidAutowerks Thanks for the advice and responding.
Nice technique! I will definitely be removing spot welds like this in the future. I tried that drill you showed but kept going threw both sides and made a mess. Thanks!
No problem! You can also use a Dremel with a little grinding wheel to get into hard to reach spots. They make a nice "quick lock" wheel that works well.
Funny... looking at for my Mk3.... by "spotweld removal vw" search term... your right on the very first mentioned xD
ps im the guy who bought your Cruise control partsbox :P
Hey buddy! That’s funny. We talk in the groups too, but usually under my personal page. I think we were fb friends too but I just saw you come up again in “people you may know”
