Machete Restoration - Knife Transformation [Ebony Brass Handle]

- Anyone who likes extremely rusty, old things will love this restoration. More precisely, it is more of a transformation from a machete to a knife. I had to do a lot of work on the lathe, grinding, drilling, tapping, electrolyzing, hardening and a lot more... Since the original handle of this antique machete was no longer there at all, I had to make a new one out of ebony with brass caps. The pitting caused a lot of damage to the machete, so the knife ended up looking old and new somehow! Stay tuned and have fun watching!
▶ What did I do?! ◀
Use a needle scaler to remove the crust of rust, that was really a lot of rust. This is then removed more deeply with electrolysis. Since the rust was already far too advanced, I could no longer save the machete in its original form and converted it into a knife. It gets its contour on the belt sander and the cutting edge is processed. During hardening, the knife is heated to 800 °C and quenched in preheated oil. The metal must then be tempered three times for one hour in an oven at 200°C. Since the old handle no longer exists, I remade it from ebony and brass caps; I did everything with the lathe and milling machine. Finally everything was assembled and the cutting edge was sharpened; Now nothing stood in the way of testing the knife.
▶ Good to know ◀
I used the following tools: needle scaler, water, glass container, salt, laboratory power supply, scriber, angle grinder, belt grinder, pen, caliper, hardening oven, immersion heater, thermometer, blacksmith tongs, oil, spatula, wire brush, oven, center punch, cordless screwdriver, drill, thread cutter, Cold bluing, abrasive fleece, lathe, turning chisel, boring bar, milling cutter, milling machine, two-component glue, file, sandpaper, grinding stone

Seeing these relics come back to life is absolutely satisfying to see
🥰🤩🐢
Dude! That knife turned out awesome! And i love the way the screw fit in flush in the cap. Great job!
And I appreciate that the sharpness test was on a grape and not a piece of paper.
1:42 Wait, you can't do that!! 🤣
🤣🤣🐢
Prost 😹😹😹
I can't believe I'm just in time to see this within 24 hours, it's so awesome

Thanks! 🐢
Nice to be able to share a grape with 30 people 🙂

I’ve tried watching several other similar channels to scratch the itch but none of them can match the odd charm of Forgotten Shine.
I always come back.
Thank you very much 🤪🤭🐢
Outstanding transformation!!!!! You made an heirloom that looks great and you saved a great blade from the scrap heap. Well done sir!!
Thanks! 🐢
the colour and texture of the blade makes it look really cool
I love the captions! I love reading about what you’re actually doing. So happy to get another video. ❤
Thank you so much! 🐢
It wasn't a machete it was a bill hook for hedge cutting.
Immer interessant zuzuschauen! Es fehlt nur noch der Block, in den alle von Dir restaurierten Messer eingesetzt werden können...😏👋ps frohe Ostern 🕊🐣
Vielen Dank! Eigentlich eine gute Idee, so einen Block zu bauen... 🤔🐢
1:46 Dobrou chuť.😄
2:26 výroba nového nože.

What a work of art, and that handle, wow! You are super talented 👍🙏👏
Thank you! 🐢
handle is far more better than knife...
Handle's cool! So is that sharp blade!
right out the gate with the needle scaler let's goooo
I have missed your content. Thank you and have a good holiday weekend
Hello mister beautiful knife Beautiful restoration good job well done
3:29 Very cool holder for sharpening on the belt grinder, you can really work on any knife.
Isso é uma obra de arte parabéns
Glad to see Mr Turtle is back in swimming shape
Another excellent piece of work!
Thank you! 🐢
So what do you do with the blades?
What a fantastic job, a new knife from old steel, which seems to be the best. Really satisfying to watch. Best wishes mate 😊
Thanks! 🐢
A recommendation. Round handles make edge alignment more difficult, and affect how well something can cut. I’d recommend rectangular or oval handles instead.
Very nicely done.
Highlight of my day! :D

Спасибо за вашу работу и профессионализм))
P.S. очень интересная технология закалки металла в подогретом масле....
was that an acid dip it was in? didn't see what it said the liquid was
Nice! Skillfully done
Thanks! 🐢
I'm completely ignorant to your profession and I admittedly have no idea how electrolysis removes rust…but wouldn't sandblasting remove the rust faster and easier? Genuinely asking.
That needle scaler is forbidden itching tool.
Needle scalerrrrrr 😍😍😍😍
🤣👍🐢
It looks great and you did a wonderful job restoring it as well!!!!
I enjoyed your video so I gave it a Thumbs Up
Thank you very much! 🐢❤
I think it cojld have looked better if welding the rusty areas of the blade and making it fully smooth
Not sure if the hardening took if you drilled and tapped that easy
Prima gearbeitet, so macht man aus uralt feine Messer.👍👍👍
Das stimmt 👍 Danke! 🐢
love the videos bro

A fine piece of a horror knife. Jason were proud to own that. 🧟♂️🔪
😳😲😱🐢
The perfect conductivity for electrolysis should be 3000us (Micro Siemens) above your mains cold water supply your using
Billhook not a machete
This is so satisfying
This video is basically: What is he doing?

Καλησπέρα φίλε μου. Μπορούμε να μαυρίσουμε ένα γυαλιστερό μαχαίρι με ηλεκτρόλυση και πώς;
Νομίζω ότι έχω ξαναδεί κάτι τέτοιο... πρέπει να συνδέσεις τους πόλους σε αντίθετες κατευθύνσεις... αλλά δεν το έχω δοκιμάσει ποτέ. 🐢
@@ForgottenShineRestoration Σ'ευχαριστώ πολύ.
4:04 WHAT IS THAT ITS SCARING ME😭

Great work dude, looks awsome 👏👏
Thanks! 🐢

Beautiful restoration job you did transforming a rusty machete into a kitchen knife. Even the pitted surface looks better and gives the knife a unique look. It also cuts cleanly. Excellent work.
Thank you very much! 🐢
Kompliment 👍👍👍
Vielen Dank! 🐢
HATE the pitting
so, what's the taste of that rust juice, man?
It tastes like iron 🤔🐢
Great and beautiful handle but the knife is really ugly.
Idk i kinda like it
Эбеновая латунь . 😂 😂 😂
Looks like a billhook rather than a machete.
Превосходно!👍👍👍👍👍👍💪💪💪💪💪
Большое спасибо! 🐢
That's a billhook
And he takes the tip off alright I'm not watching this
