If you think otherwise, you're either out of touch with what's actually happening or simply not paying attention. Lip servicing yes, to bring up the confidence of clientele to invest in vietnam. The data is forever changing and unpredictable when a country is in the middle. Vietnam is in a tough spot. Being cut off from china with their raw material is the worst thing that can happen to vietnam. Having us as an strong ally is a good deterrence in it of its own. This kind of Relations can easily become toxic with just a sprinkle of salt. Knowing why US is even bothering with Vietnam now is just to counter china and serves no real value to US. Me, being Swiss, I can only advicate neutrality and independance. We provide a stable and cheap manufacturing environment for the US companies while being close to Chinese's raw materials, it benefits the US. And having US companies on Vietnam's ground provide a good leverage for China where US's investments are close to where they can attack, making the US more weary about attacking China because after all , we are a neighbour to China.
      The best way for China and USA to benefits in this situation is to maintain peace. This helps US companies to have a stable and profitable manufacturing hub near China. And helps China maintain a strategic ally who keeps the US military at bay. Basically, Vietnam is betting against WW3 you dumb dumb. @duongglobalbusinessconsulting  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As a Chinese person, you understand Vietnam’s behavior, but let’s clear up the confusion: Vietnam isn’t 'turning' to the U.S. and abandoning China. Vietnam is playing a strategic game, balancing relationships with both China and the U.S. to ensure its sovereignty and long-term growth. Vietnam knows the risks of relying too heavily on any one partner-whether it’s China or the U.S.-which is why it’s diversifying its global partnerships.
      Sure, China is a neighbor, but history has shown that being geographically close doesn’t always guarantee smooth relations or benefits. Vietnam’s leaders are focused on protecting their national interests, not becoming overly dependent on any single power. It’s not about choosing one over the other-it’s about ensuring Vietnam has options and leverage in an increasingly complex global landscape. This isn’t just about immediate benefits; it’s about securing Vietnam’s future.

    As of now Vietnam is doing a balancing act between the US and China but there will come a time when Vietnam will choose which side he will go. China is claiming most of the south east Asian sea and this will be in conflict with other smaller south east Asian countries. China want all these countries to negotiate their territorial boundaries with them. This will create more problems in the future because . These small countries do not have a well defined territories because their territories is still under negotiation with them. Unlike China that they always publish their territorial boundaries and made it known to the world. They have already published their new map and the 10 dash line.

      Let’s get real-just because China is a superpower doesn’t mean they’re not feeling the pressure. Vietnam may not match China in sheer size, but underestimating Vietnam’s military and strategic alliances is a mistake. China knows Vietnam isn’t backing down, and that’s why they’re paying close attention to every move Vietnam makes, especially with growing ties to the U.S.
      And yes, Vietnam is smart enough to play both sides because that’s how you ensure independence and security. It's not about fear-it’s about strategic balance. First, as per your own analysis, with regard to the disappearing foreign tourism, Western in particular, Vietnam's strategy, as explained here, seems to be somewhat narrowly limited in sight.
    Second, Russia's recent strategic initiative with Vietnam, the latter seems to be opening itself to a wider direct conflict of interests in its high-stakes poker game in its balancing act between East and West.
    Third, Vietnam has just become a BRICS+ partner with tall the ramifications that that entails.

    I have been following your channel for a while now and commend you on your content and provision of insight into Vietnam and doing business there. However, I have to respectfully disagree with your assessment.
    1. You keep mentioning cheap chinese goods flooding the market and controlling the supply chain. There is a perception in Vietnam mainly brought about by the media that Chinese goods are of low quality. There are indeed cheap chinese goods but there are also indeed high quality goods. You get what you pay for. If the chinese could flood the market wirh cheap goods and control the supply chain as you say, wouldn't they have done it already? While they might be able to supply these goods, there also needs to be demand.
    2. The Chinese already control the supply chain. Vietnam imports most of the raw materials used in many industries from China. Many of these raw materials are needed by US, Korean, Japanese, Taiwanese and Singaporean companies to manufacture and produce their goods in VN. If China suddenly decides to stop supplying VN, then Vietnam's economy collapses overnight.
    3. Trade between China and Vietnam accounts for roughly 44% of Vietnam's GDP. Think of the leverage China has over Vietnam. The equivalent figure for the US is around 29%.
    4. War with China is not in either the Chinese or Vietnamese interest. China could bomb Vietnam into nothing without putting one boot onto the ground and destroy its navy with the pressing of some buttons. There will be no war between VN and China over disputed territory.
    5. VN is indeed playing a clever geopolitical game. By playing China and the US off against each other to secure more investment from both sides.

    • @duongglobalbusinessconsulting
      @duongglobalbusinessconsulting  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Appreciate your thoughtful comment and for being a long-time follower! Let’s dive into the points you raised:
      Absolutely, there are high-quality Chinese goods, and it's true that you often get what you pay for. However, the concern isn’t about quality alone-it’s about China’s ability to manipulate markets by flooding them with lower-cost goods to undercut competition, a tactic they’ve used globally. While demand plays a role, if a country becomes overly reliant on a single source for key goods, it risks losing control over its own markets. Vietnam is aware of this risk and is working to diversify.
      You’re right that China is a major supplier of raw materials to Vietnam, and that dependency is a challenge. But it’s also why Vietnam is strategically aligning with other global partners to reduce this over-reliance. While China has leverage, Vietnam is actively looking for alternatives to protect its economy from sudden supply chain disruptions.
      The trade numbers are a reality, but Vietnam has shown incredible resilience in balancing relationships with multiple countries, including the U.S. and China, without being fully dependent on either. The goal is not to cut off trade with China but to diversify enough so that Vietnam isn’t vulnerable to any single country’s economic leverage.
      You're right-war isn't in the interest of either nation, but geopolitical tensions in the region, especially over disputed territories like the South China Sea, can't be ignored. Vietnam is focused on strengthening its defense and alliances to ensure it's not left vulnerable, while avoiding outright conflict.
      Spot on-Vietnam is playing a very smart geopolitical game, and that’s exactly the point. It’s about maximizing its position, securing investment, and ensuring its own growth while maintaining sovereignty in a complicated global landscape.
      Again, we appreciate the constructive feedback. It’s this kind of discussion that helps everyone gain a deeper understanding of Vietnam’s evolving role on the world stage.

    This expression of "playing both sides" is such a simple but malicious description. If you think like that, this just meant you're the type that is looking out to screw your business partner.
    The fact is VN sees itself as an able and productive business partner that can trade with US as well as China. It sees itself as a country that can assist US and China in growing those countries' economic aims/objectives. And I'm not being naive, I realize VN sees their relationship with China will allow it an alternative financial/trade market if the US impose financial/economic coercion and threats. Likewise, its relationship with US will provide it a backdoor protection against direct physical threat.
    I think it's hilarious how people describe Switzerland and Scandinavian countries with positive phrase like "neutral" but when it comes to non European countries wanting to have relationship with both Western countries and China, then those countries are described as "playing both sides" as thought they are scheming conniving thieves.

    • @duongglobalbusinessconsulting
      @duongglobalbusinessconsulting  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You make an excellent point, and it's true-describing Vietnam's strategy as 'playing both sides' can sometimes oversimplify a far more nuanced situation. Vietnam is navigating complex relationships with both the U.S. and China, not to 'screw over' anyone, but to ensure its own growth and security in a volatile geopolitical landscape. Just like Switzerland or Scandinavian countries are praised for their neutrality, Vietnam is doing the same-maximizing its strategic options while protecting its interests.
      Vietnam’s leadership isn’t about deception; it’s about survival and thriving in a world dominated by superpowers. As you said, Vietnam is positioning itself as a valuable partner, and it’s this ability to balance both relationships that could secure its long-term success. It’s not about being malicious, but about being smart and pragmatic.

    China never plays fair. Vietnam needs close ties with US. US weapons and Aircraft are so far superior to Chinas. As we see in the Ukraine conflict. Vietnam should look to purchase US weapons and aircraft to strengthen their military. Trump most likely will be President. Trump respect Vietnam and was impressed with Vietnam on his last visit when President. I as an American Expat living here in Vietnam, I hope to see closer tie of the US and Vietnam. It would be a good thing to let China know they aren’t the only kid on the block. Vietnam having good and powerful friends is good policy for them and keep their Independence. Absolutely, cargo planes are crucial for any country, regardless of wealth. But when we’re talking about Vietnam acquiring C-130s from the U.S., it’s not just about transport-these planes play a strategic role in defense. They’re designed for military logistics, capable of moving troops, supplies, and equipment quickly in times of conflict, especially in contested areas like the South China Sea.
      It’s not 'ignorance'-it’s understanding the broader geopolitical context. Vietnam isn’t just beefing up its cargo fleet; it’s preparing for scenarios where military readiness is key. In this case, the link to military strategy is undeniable.

      Let’s clear this up: the C-130s aren’t about making China 'afraid'-they’re part of Vietnam’s broader strategy to enhance its defense capabilities, particularly for logistical purposes in contested areas like the South China Sea. It’s about smart defense moves, not a show of force to provoke aggression. You mentioned the Philippines-while they’ve faced aggression from China, it’s also clear that strengthening defense partnerships with the U.S. has helped them stand their ground. Vietnam is taking a similar approach, but it's not about building up jet fighters; it's about securing long-term resilience.
      Yes, Vietnam relies on China for trade, and nobody denies that China is a key economic partner. However, relying on a single country, especially one that has the power to manipulate supply chains, is risky. Vietnam understands this and is actively diversifying its economic and defense partnerships to reduce over-dependence. It’s not about kicking out the U.S. or repeating history-it’s about balancing relationships to protect Vietnam’s future.
      Vietnam’s leadership is focused on ensuring the country’s independence, security, and economic growth. The goal is not to relive the past but to navigate today’s complex geopolitical environment wisely. The partnerships Vietnam is forming now, including with the U.S., are about securing its sovereignty and strategic autonomy-not walking down the same road as before 1975.

Do you think US will help Vietnam? Do you think US will care for Vietnamese people life? You are Vietnamese you know for sure if there's any disagreement in political with the US what will happen after that, and you know clearly that Vietnam had sacrificed millions deaths to stay away from the West's political and now you wish Vietnam turn around and joint with the US to get weapons and against China? • @duongglobalbusinessconsulting
      @duongglobalbusinessconsulting  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @vincenttran3973, first, let’s clarify: 'sweating' doesn’t mean 'afraid'-it refers to China feeling pressure and uncertainty about Vietnam’s growing strategic options. Vietnam is playing a smart game by balancing relationships with multiple global powers, and it’s not about replacing China entirely. Vietnam relies on China for certain economic aspects, but over-reliance on any single country, especially one that can manipulate supply chains, is risky.
      You’re right-Vietnam sacrificed a lot to gain independence from external powers, but that’s exactly why it is forging partnerships with multiple countries, including the U.S., Japan, and others, to maintain sovereignty and avoid being dominated by any one power, including China. This isn’t about 'choosing' the U.S. over China or blindly following anyone; it’s about ensuring Vietnam’s long-term stability and independence through diversification.
      The U.S. has strategic interests in Vietnam, and while it's not about 'caring' for any one country’s people, both Vietnam and the U.S. benefit from this growing relationship-whether through trade, investment, or defense cooperation. Vietnam’s leadership is fully aware of the geopolitical risks, but they’re focused on securing the country’s future, not repeating the past.
      As for the Philippines, the situation is complex, but strengthening alliances, even with the U.S., has given them a stronger position in navigating tensions with China. Vietnam is taking a similar approach, not to provoke conflict, but to ensure it has the defense and economic stability needed to protect its national interests.

      But at the same time I like how Vietnam leaders are handling the situation, Vietnam and China are having a great time in trading, ( 170 billions total in 2023) if you want to change this number then you're against the will of Vietnam's economy growth and that what I called ignorance. You do want the US involvement, like Ukraine, like Afghanistan, like North and South Vietnam before 1975...ect . I don't have time to repeat again and a gain for the ignorance. So I will end the conversation here.

      @Congtrihayankeomut , appreciate your take, but it’s not just about a 'cargo purchase'-it's about what that purchase represents. Vietnam has been playing the balancing act since 1995, sure, but now it’s stepping up its game. This isn’t just another chapter in the status quo; it’s a sign that Vietnam is actively upgrading its defense capabilities with U.S. support, which can have major geopolitical implications, especially in the South China Sea.
      These moves are part of a much bigger picture-Vietnam isn’t just maintaining balance; it’s quietly strengthening its position as a regional power. So, while it might seem like a 'slow news day' on the surface, what’s happening beneath the headlines is far more strategic.
