You forgot to mention how brilliant the moment was in the air balloon attacks how he successfully defended himself and Toph with one arm & on his back while keeping Toph from falling to her death. That was brilliant thinking and fighting ability to pull that off.

Aang and Zuko are both amazing characters, Katara and Toph both bring the girl power to the show, Azula is definetly everyone's love to hate villain, and Iroh is a wise old man that everyone wants as their grandpa. But Sokka is probably the most relatable character in the entire show becuase he brings the comedic relief but yet brings the great leadership that Team Avatar needed.
If you look up the original unaired pilot episode, you'll see a very different Sokka, he was much more brooding and angsty (Much like his movie counterpart) but when the producers heard voice actor Jack DeSena do his vocal warm ups by performing all kinds of crazy voices, they decided to change Sokka's character to incorporate them
I have watched this series over and over. The last few times I have watched it through certain characters. Sokka not being able to bend is one of the best things about him. It gives him time to come up with a plan instead of rushing into danger because you are a Bender.
Sokka is the type who's really lacking in self confidence despite his bravado. Some of his best moments were ones when he didn't have time to second doubt himself and just plannes/did things on the fly
I want a series of them as adults so badly. Catching glimpses of them through Korra is not enough. I liked the picks, however I think Sokka taking down the airships is number one, before the boomerang thing. He shows leaderships, comes up with a great plan to defeat all the airships counting on his friends assets, protects toph when she can't see, get to show his swords and boomerang abilities, while staying the sokka we know, joking around.

Sokka gave me hope. I was often perceived as not very smart, but I think outside the box and come up with solutions. Now many people asking me for advice and it makes me finally feel so happy that I can help others.
Not only did Sokka hit combustion man right in his third eye from a very far distance, but he did it without being able to see him. Sokka literally used the angles of where the explosions were landing to determine exactly where the third eye was. Sokka. Is. A. Genius.
note on that last one, my man sokka not only landed a perfect headshot with a boomerang from probably like 30+ meters or so, but also aimed it perfectly while being UNABLE TO SEE HIS TARGET BY TRACKING THE LOCATION THE SHOTS WERE COMING FROM. AND NAILED IT FLAWLESSLY. WITH A BOOMERANG. That's fucking impressive.
Sokka is a character I did not appreciate enough as a kid. I always liked him well enough, but when I rewatched the series recently with the DVD box set and Netflix, he easily became my favorite character in the show.
This is exactly why I never felt sorry for Sokka not being a bender throughout the show: he is strategic and brave all through out. He doesn’t give up and is just as capable in a fight, along with his smarts. That’s why I don’t take kindly to characters making fun of Sokka not being able to bend. I never felt sorry for Sokka not being able to bend because Mei, Ty Lee, Suki and Piandao are all capable fighters. Piandao fought and defeated a hundred fire benders by himself. So much so that they never bothered him again. If Suki, Mei, ty Lee, and Piandao can do much in a fight, why can’t Sokka? Sokka became my favorite character in the first season when his smarts was introduced.
The only one I disagree with is Sokka "fooling" Wan Shi Tong. He used Wan Shi Tong's trust in the Avatar to lie about misusing the knowledge there, but Wan Shi Tong didn't seem to fully believe Sokka. It wasn't really clever, just a fib. Other's have mentioned it, but Sokka coming up with the idea of how to make a submarine work was clever. Not only that, but he had the idea of using explosives to fake firebend at Roku's temple. Sure it didnt work, but then said they could use it to make it seem like it worked.

He doesn’t give up and is just as capable in a fight, along with his smarts. That’s why I don’t take kindly to characters making fun of Sokka not being able to bend. I never felt sorry for Sokka not being able to bend because Mei, Ty Lee, Suki and Piandao are all capable fighters. Piandao fought and defeated a hundred fire benders by himself. So much so that they never bothered him again. If Suki, Mei, ty Lee, and Piandao can do much in a fight, why can’t Sokka? Sokka became my favorite character in the first season when his smarts was introduced.
The only one I disagree with is Sokka "fooling" Wan Shi Tong. He used Wan Shi Tong's trust in the Avatar to lie about misusing the knowledge there, but Wan Shi Tong didn't seem to fully believe Sokka. It wasn't really clever, just a fib.
Other's have mentioned it, but Sokka coming up with the idea of how to make a submarine work was clever. Not only that, but he had the idea of using explosives to fake firebend at Roku's temple. Sure it didnt work, but then said they could use it to make it seem like it worked.
Love his creativity.
