Honestly, how much more intelligent and skilled they are than MOST writers. So many either get too stuck in their original ideas or stray too far from the true heart of the characters (looking at you GoT). These guys got the balance right.

I started watching Dragon Prince a while ago and it wasn't near the latest season that I found out it was the same actor who played Sokka, I was so surprised.
A Few More Facts: Suki wasn't going to appear again after "The Warriors of Kyoshi" however she was so popular among both staff and fans that she returned for Books 2 and 3 becoming an official member of Team Avatar, Iroh wasn't always going to be Zuko's uncle he was originally just going to be his mentor and he was going to be more strict and mean, Li and Lo are Azula's Firebending teachers however neither one of them is a Firebender, if you translate the writing in the corner of the picture of Lu Ten in the episode "The Tales of Ba Sing Se" it roughly translate as: "To General Iroh: See you after we win the war. Your loyal son, Lu Ten," Aang, Katara, and Sokka appear in every episode except "Zuko Alone."

I actually have some complaints with it. If you make a character like Azula, you have to make her the main antagonist. Otherwise, the audience is dissatisfied. The show also failed miserably in building up a foreboding aura around Ozai. At times, I forgot he even existed.

I snorted. I was kinda excited for it until I heard they walked due to 'creative differences' with the Netflix team. Now I probably won't watch it unless it gets really good critical reviews (not holding my breath). The Avatar creators and writing team made something unique and special. It also happens to be extremely successful financially and critically. I think Netflix should have respected them more and kept their vision the focus. I'm not saying that Netflix shouldn't push a bit with their own ideas, but let the original creators do their magic again please. Did they forget how badly our trust was broken with that dumpster fire of a live action movie that the original creators were completely ignored by too?

People seem to forget that he used to be a general for the fire nation. Considering his extremely F'd up family and the consequences of their upbringings, he probably did some PRETTY ruthless things to say the least.

Honorable mentions: Asami’s dad, Korra’s uncle, P’Li (Zaheer’s girlfriend), actually all of the other major Red Lotus members, and Combustion Man in ATLA. Way more character death in these shows than people remember.

I watched this show when it originally aired on Nickelodeon. It has set such a high standard for anything show I have watched since. Definitely one of the greatest shows ever made

i would've preferred a season 4(air) over another live action re telling(though that part at the end kinda bummed me out.need to seriously dial it back with the live action remakes or at least make sure they're good first.) or at least had "the promise" be a special(i feel it should've been animated instead of being kept to comics.) as i would've liked to seen azula be redeemed as i actually surprisingly(especially since she's a beta juri han just sadistic in a different way.) felt very bad for her when she lost her sanity(and how she disappears from the story in some instances as i feel she could change.).i don't hate korra(i think it's okay just had similar problems that i had with queens blade rebellion in terms of continuing after the original and how certain characters just aren't mentioned don't appear at all.) but i did wish for a continuation we wrapped up more about the original series story like showing more of the world healing.(which the comics do well i just wish they were animated as a season.) also am i the only one who feels a bit of similarities between aang & gon(hunter x hunter)?

I honestly felt that Zuko and Katara had some chemistry between them, and I think it would've made more sense for them to end up together, but that's just my opinion, and people have the right to disagree with it.
Prince Zuko was my favorite character. He's certainly ver Shakespeare. By the way, there were so many bad ideas! It's fun to know about them, cause sometimes we believe that writers always get the best result at first, but it's actually a hard process of creation.

The weak points of canon relationships failed to give satisfaction to half of the fandom , thus we have this mess in the internet.
Personally, I think it would have broken Zuko. Iroh was the only person in his life (except for his mom) who truly loved and cared for him. So for Iroh to just betray him would’ve been horrible. The thought of it just breaks my heart. 🥺😭🥺 I’m so glad they didn’t go in that direction.

I really wish Azula had gotten some sort of redemption arc. She ultimately disappeared, completely insane and assured that Ursa was trying to destroy her. She was 14 in the show. She’s too young to be totally gone. DeLisle did such a good job with the role. She portrayed Azula’s inner turmoil and mental issues so well

I remember once hearing, that the writers intended for Ursa (Zuko and Azula's mom) to return in the season finale of the show, which is why Azula started hallucinating her mom. But that idea got scratched and instead we got the graphic novel "The Search".

Kataang was planned to be endgame/canon from the start. Why do you guys think The “Avatar’s Love” always played in the background during the ending scenes of avatar. Bryke even confirmed in one of the old comics that they just played around zutara but they were never meant to be together. In other words, Kataang was meant to be.

To today, "Lettuce leave" is a family laugh. I actually loved that Sokka became a master of the sword. We all love the "my cabbages" gag. And I loved how they made all of the various characters. They are so interconnected to create this amazing story-scape of perfection. And if they had KEPT closer to the source material, the live-action movie would have managed to become a franchise.
After hearing all these facts, it makes me appreciate one of my all time favorite shows even more! I can’t imagine this show being different at all! I’ve been a fan of this show since day one and always will be!!
I’m honestly so glad that they didn’t make Toph a seeing male, because she’s so much stronger and more badass as a blind female, and it really works. I really couldn’t see it working with a male Toph. It’s also hard to believe that Zuko, such a key and fundamental character, was thrown in as an afterthought and not meant to have as much depth and screentime as he ended up with. I’m also glad that Iroh didn’t betray Zuko, because he was so wise and lovable and he would not have been as loved as he was, rather likely would have been despised. I wish we had gotten a season four, albeit without Azula’s redemption arc. I’m glad they left her as the crazed, demented, insane, purely evil fire bender she was.

I recently read The Promise and The Search and I’m still reading The Rift. I really wish they had been made into seasons. It felt so dirty to leave on that much of a cliff hanger. I wanted so bad to see them find Ursa and how Zuko would do as fire lord. I’m also still holding our for some sort of Azula redemption arc
I'm not surprised that the fanbase is growing. It's a good show for the whole family. The tale is simple enough for children, but emotionally complex enough for adults.
Of course they did. Aang is Bryke's self-insert and he's the kid hero. The hero always ends up getting the girl. It's blatantly obvious from episode one that Aang has a crush on Katara, but she rarely seemed to reciprocate or think of him as anything other than the Avatar and a nice kid she had to help master Waterbending so he could save the world. Throughout the whole entire series she acts more like his surrogate mother than his mutual love interest. Bryke are also lying creators who lie. Kataang vs. Zutara was HEAVILY teased and baited during promos for Book 3 back in the day, so Bryke knew about the shipping wars in the fandom and deliberately inflamed them. This includes making a "Book 4: Air" they unveiled at a con to explicitly mock preteen and teenage Zutara shippers that was comprised of Zutara fanart and then edited with mocking voiceovers. To quote Aslan: "Do not cite the Deep Magic to me, witch, for I was there when it was written."
The creators are lying, just like how they claim they were the "first Korrasami shippers". The I.P. Bible that they wrote for ATLA before the series was greenlit didn't have Katara end up with anyone. Kataang was a development that came to them later on during production.
Always liked zuko. Even when he was “evil”. I think my favorite anti hero moment of him is when he dressed up at the blue demon to save the avatar from the general in like book one.

Just a reminder that Avatar was a team effort by a huge number of writers, animators, and production staff. Just because two of the creators really disliked Zutara doesn’t invalidate the existence of the writers, animators, and voice actors who thought otherwise. According to some former Nick staff, executives even had to conduct some focus groups with little kids to help them make the final decision. It was that divisive.

from what i understand, the creators always knew it would be kataang. with that being said, it wouldnt have mattered what the writers wanted since bryke would have had the final say. even the head writer who most of those rumours center around said it was kinda bullshit. zutara almost being endgame is just a myth spread by zutara shippers to give their ship more justification. if anything, zutara randomly getting together would have made no sense with how the story was written. i firmly believe that the only way that plot twist could have worked was if zuko had joined the gaang at the end of book two like it was originally planned. other than that, zutara would have made no sense with how the show was already written.
Hm... I would like it if Azula stayed the kick-ass villain she is, actually. She's still not just a purely evil character, you can tell what shaped her into the woman she became. I love that one moment she can be a friggin machine of evil, and then in the next be a beautifully flawed character. The writers had this touch. Whatever they touched it became so interesting. Every character had another layer to them.
Zuko was always supposed to be a major character. It's a long-running myth that Zuko was a "last-minute addition". Granted, the creators wrote Aang, Katara, Sokka and the firelord much earlier, but ever since Zuko entered the picture, the writers knew he was going to be Aang's firebending teacher at some point. He was conceived way earlier than characters like Iroh (who was originally only written as a foil for Zuko and who didn't even appear in the pilot episode), Azula (who was written to be an antagonist for both Aang and Zuko) or Toph (who was still outlined as a buff guy with a crush on Katara when the show first aired and when Zuko was already a well-developed character).
I first watched this cartoon in 2014 when I was 13 and I loved it. Now that people are watching it in 2020 I have rewatched it, since I have it in DVD form. My Mum cannot understand why a 19 year old like me is watching a cartoon like this but as a teenager I thought that it was pretty mature for a cartoon. I hope the original writers will make a live action and it will be amazing.

Honestly, ATLA is such a good show with well thought out characters. The question to be asked isn’t “who is your favorite character?” but “who is your least favorite character?” And there are only 3 possible answers for that. Even the villains are well thought out and to some extent likable.
let me just say, zutara never was gonna happen, not every ship has to be a 'enemies to lovers' ship, also notice how aang only goes into the avatar state once somebody he loves in danger, and when katara is in danger he goes into the avatar state, that's proof zutara wasn't even in the script to begin with
I first watched Avatar when I was ten, when it appeared on Netflix I told my little brother to watch it. Now he's hooked best feeling ever to impart one of the best shows ever.
On Christmas day, my brother and sister got me the whole series and we watched it. We ate Christmas dinner in front of the TV. My mom recognized Mako Iwamatsu from SNL, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill, as well as Jason Isaacs, George Takei and William Shatner.

Zutara should have definitely happened… it would be a very compelling story of two people coming from opposing sides and backgrounds finding their way to each other and seeing how compatible they are with each other when they’re both ready to open up, find common ground and realise what each other brings to the other person’s life. What a missed opportunity… I always saw Aang’s and Katara’s connection as two siblings born from another mother. It could even be argued that Katara was acting as the parental figure Aang lacked and desperately needed, which is a relationship that she also needed and matured her.
Wait a second, the guy who stared as Tavington in The Patriot also stared as Commander Zhao in Avatar:The Last Airbender: The Series? I did NOT see that coming.

I actually have some complaints with it. If you make a character like Azula, you have to make her the main antagonist. Otherwise, the audience is dissatisfied. The show also failed miserably in building up a foreboding aura around Ozai. At times, I forgot he even existed.

I snorted. I was kinda excited for it until I heard they walked due to 'creative differences' with the Netflix team. Now I probably won't watch it unless it gets really good critical reviews (not holding my breath). The Avatar creators and writing team made something unique and special. It also happens to be extremely successful financially and critically. I think Netflix should have respected them more and kept their vision the focus. I'm not saying that Netflix shouldn't push a bit with their own ideas, but let the original creators do their magic again please. Did they forget how badly our trust was broken with that dumpster fire of a live action movie that the original creators were completely ignored by too?

i would've preferred a season 4(air) over another live action re telling(though that part at the end kinda bummed me out.need to seriously dial it back with the live action remakes or at least make sure they're good first.) or at least had "the promise" be a special(i feel it should've been animated instead of being kept to comics.) as i would've liked to seen azula be redeemed as i actually surprisingly(especially since she's a beta juri han just sadistic in a different way.) felt very bad for her when she lost her sanity(and how she disappears from the story in some instances as i feel she could change.).i don't hate korra(i think it's okay just had similar problems that i had with queens blade rebellion in terms of continuing after the original and how certain characters just aren't mentioned don't appear at all.) but i did wish for a continuation we wrapped up more about the original series story like showing more of the world healing.(which the comics do well i just wish they were animated as a season.)

To today, "Lettuce leave" is a family laugh. I actually loved that Sokka became a master of the sword. We all love the "my cabbages" gag. And I loved how they made all of the various characters. They are so interconnected to create this amazing story-scape of perfection. And if they had KEPT closer to the source material, the live-action movie would have managed to become a franchise.
After hearing all these facts, it makes me appreciate one of my all time favorite shows even more! I can’t imagine this show being different at all! I’ve been a fan of this show since day one and always will be!!

I’m honestly so glad that they didn’t make Toph a seeing male, because she’s so much stronger and more badass as a blind female, and it really works. I really couldn’t see it working with a male Toph. It’s also hard to believe that Zuko, such a key and fundamental character, was thrown in as an afterthought and not meant to have as much depth and screentime as he ended up with. I’m also glad that Iroh didn’t betray Zuko, because he was so wise and lovable and he would not have been as loved as he was, rather likely would have been despised. I wish we had gotten a season four, albeit without Azula’s redemption arc. I’m glad they left her as the crazed, demented, insane, purely evil fire bender she was.
Anyone who wonders what a serious Sokka would be like, I suggest looking up that unaired pilot (and NOT the live-action movie)

I recently read The Promise and The Search and I’m still reading The Rift. I really wish they had been made into seasons. It felt so dirty to leave on that much of a cliff hanger. I wanted so bad to see them find Ursa and how Zuko would do as fire lord. I’m also still holding our for some sort of Azula redemption arc
I'm not surprised that the fanbase is growing. It's a good show for the whole family. The tale is simple enough for children, but emotionally complex enough for adults.

Of course they did. Aang is Bryke's self-insert and he's the kid hero. The hero always ends up getting the girl. It's blatantly obvious from episode one that Aang has a crush on Katara, but she rarely seemed to reciprocate or think of him as anything other than the Avatar and a nice kid she had to help master Waterbending so he could save the world. Throughout the whole entire series she acts more like his surrogate mother than his mutual love interest.
Bryke are also lying creators who lie. Kataang vs. Zutara was HEAVILY teased and baited during promos for Book 3 back in the day, so Bryke knew about the shipping wars in the fandom and deliberately inflamed them. This includes making a "Book 4: Air" they unveiled at a con to explicitly mock preteen and teenage Zutara shippers that was comprised of Zutara fanart and then edited with mocking voiceovers.
To quote Aslan: "Do not cite the Deep Magic to me, witch, for I was there when it was written."
The creators are lying, just like how they claim they were the "first Korrasami shippers". The I.P. Bible that they wrote for ATLA before the series was greenlit didn't have Katara end up with anyone. Kataang was a development that came to them later on during production.

Just a reminder that Avatar was a team effort by a huge number of writers, animators, and production staff. Just because two of the creators really disliked Zutara doesn’t invalidate the existence of the writers, animators, and voice actors who thought otherwise. According to some former Nick staff, executives even had to conduct some focus groups with little kids to help them make the final decision. It was that divisive.

from what i understand, the creators always knew it would be kataang. with that being said, it wouldnt have mattered what the writers wanted since bryke would have had the final say. even the head writer who most of those rumours center around said it was kinda bullshit. zutara almost being endgame is just a myth spread by zutara shippers to give their ship more justification. if anything, zutara randomly getting together would have made no sense with how the story was written. i firmly believe that the only way that plot twist could have worked was if zuko had joined the gaang at the end of book two like it was originally planned. other than that, zutara would have made no sense with how the show was already written.
Hm... I would like it if Azula stayed the kick-ass villain she is, actually. She's still not just a purely evil character, you can tell what shaped her into the woman she became. I love that one moment she can be a friggin machine of evil, and then in the next be a beautifully flawed character. The writers had this touch. Whatever they touched it became so interesting. Every character had another layer to them.
Zuko was always supposed to be a major character. It's a long-running myth that Zuko was a "last-minute addition". Granted, the creators wrote Aang, Katara, Sokka and the firelord much earlier, but ever since Zuko entered the picture, the writers knew he was going to be Aang's firebending teacher at some point. He was conceived way earlier than characters like Iroh (who was originally only written as a foil for Zuko and who didn't even appear in the pilot episode), Azula (who was written to be an antagonist for both Aang and Zuko) or Toph (who was still outlined as a buff guy with a crush on Katara when the show first aired and when Zuko was already a well-developed character).
I first watched this cartoon in 2014 when I was 13 and I loved it. Now that people are watching it in 2020 I have rewatched it, since I have it in DVD form.
My Mum cannot understand why a 19 year old like me is watching a cartoon like this but as a teenager I thought that it was pretty mature for a cartoon.
I hope the original writers will make a live action and it will be amazing.
When I first watched Avatar, I rooted for Kataang, but as I grew up, the more I hoped for Zutara.

I would’ve really liked to see azula’s redemption arch. I feel like so many people just see her as a villain when in reality she was just being used by her father. Her psychology is soooo interesting and I feel that we deserved to see azula’s redemption.
I get what you mean but imo azula as a villain is so much better than her getting a redemption arc. It shows that some people just don’t always get their happy ending

The hints that were shown were just fabricated hands it was never seriously considered that Zuko would get with her. None of the creators ever suggested it would become a thing or even thought it would be close to becoming a thing.

i think at the beginning of creation Katara was supposed to fall in love with their enemy, probably zuko, like romeo and julietta style but that didn't work with them probably.

Honestly, ATLA is such a good show with well thought out characters. The question to be asked isn’t “who is your favorite character?” but “who is your least favorite character?” And there are only 3 possible answers for that. Even the villains are well thought out and to some extent likable.
let me just say, zutara never was gonna happen, not every ship has to be a 'enemies to lovers' ship, also notice how aang only goes into the avatar state once somebody he loves in danger, and when katara is in danger he goes into the avatar state, that's proof zutara wasn't even in the script to begin with

I first watched Avatar when I was ten, when it appeared on Netflix I told my little brother to watch it. Now he's hooked best feeling ever to impart one of the best shows ever.
On Christmas day, my brother and sister got me the whole series and we watched it. We ate Christmas dinner in front of the TV. My mom recognized Mako Iwamatsu from SNL, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill, as well as Jason Isaacs, George Takei and William Shatner.

Whoever voiced Sokka got very lucky that he got to voice one of the main characters in Aaron Ehaz’s new show, The Dragon prince. If you watch the show you don’t even need me to tell you which character is voiced by the same guy, even though this character is not as goofy as Sokka. So go watch it on Netflix!

Zutara should have definitely happened… it would be a very compelling story of two people coming from opposing sides and backgrounds finding their way to each other and seeing how compatible they are with each other when they’re both ready to open up, find common ground and realise what each other brings to the other person’s life. What a missed opportunity… I always saw Aang’s and Katara’s connection as two siblings born from another mother. It could even be argued that Katara was acting as the parental figure Aang lacked and desperately needed, which is a relationship that she also needed and matured her.
