1/18 Ferrari MONZA SP1 - $45 Bburago VS $400 BBR - Full Comparison

  • This is the latest Bburago Ferrari release of the Monza SP1 and I was quite impressed with the bang for your buck on this model. Now since I already had the BBR models version, I thought I would do a full side by side comparison of the 2 models. This is quite interesting to see a $45 model next to a $350 model of the same car. Watch to find out the verdict!

Most of the details that he's complaining about on the bburago actually do exist on certain models in real life.
      Not that I care.
I don't buy collectables I prefer sim racing.

The cheap ones have the same quality for interest holding value as the very expensive ones, I know from experience and the most I've paid for one model car of 1/18 scale is $140.00 although I'd have to add that the hi end ones do appreciate in value over time if you are selling any of them especially if that type model is discontinued

Maybe Bburago bought a BBR Monza, 3D-scanned it, reproduced and paint in another color. Sold it for $45 each of the about 20k copies they made. Hahahaha. Just kidding.

Saw the grey Monza Sp1 in person at a Motorshow, beautiful car! One thing I think Bburago did better is the rear taillights which on the real car had a darker tone much closer to the Bburago than the BBR.

Not quite, the Bbruago looks cheap in comparison. No decals, no opened mesh, and simplistic detail. For what you pay, it’s a great deal though! I’d rather pay $45 for Bburago than hundreds on a BBR

Thanks for this, Rob!! For the money, Burago well done!
For true-to-life 'feel' and satisfying detail, the BBR's higher price is visibly proven, but tempered by being a sealed resin.
It comes down to price and it seems AA knows where to 'hover'.
I'd save the $45 and put it into the BBR.

Bburago used to make great collectors models but not so nowadays but anyway for that price is a very good looking toy as far as the collectors debate I prefer die cast over resin, I’m a huge AutoArt fan but I like and have some good resin models I’m not like other collectors and in your case there’s a few youtubers that simply hate resin models for not having full openings I heard one of them called resin models paper weights, my only issue with them is price not necessarily materials

I find myself very rarely buying plastic ehh resin models as the kick of a model is in the reproduction of the real car which isn't closed either else if would have zero function.
And asking 400 dollars for a resin car and still selling it only shows to me some people just like to throw away their money or only buy a model to sell it for a higher price later, so not for passion or love of cars. Sad thing the whole resin and non opening die cast cars that are flooding the market more and more, and we as consumers buy it and pay the overpriced price for the eternally limited series (who gets a kick of that anyway make 10.000 of a good reasonable priced model is my preference). Yes I have some 1:12 and one 1:18 resins too simply because there was no die cast equivalent to it. Hence I love my 1:12 Sun Star models where even the side windows can be lowered the same way as you would do on the real car, that to me still is the only great way of perfection in a model, max out the working parts, die cast, good paint and full engine details with wiring . And then you can see, that you can get a fully functional 1:12 model for 200 dollars ore less where some 1:18 die cast makes ask 800 dollars for a Mercedes 600 with the same functions LOL. A good buy in my opinion was the LCD Huayra Roadster with excellent red paint, all functioning and great multi coloured details at just 135 dollars. So yes superiour quality doesn't require snob prices at all folks.

I like a good die cast or resin model but you’d think manufacturers could get the carbon fiber decals to be closer in scale to what they should be. In 1/18 scale the carbon fiber weave would be very small but what they use on these models and most others is way too large. Each square would be bigger around than a finger which is big for carbon fiber weave.
