What a beautiful, strong, woman. I’ve loved her music since 1965. I grew up in San Francisco during the hippy ‘60’s! What a great time that was! She’s retired now but she’s still an icon for freedom. ❤️
Lord, I'd forgotten how great Joan Baez is. I had so many of her albums and played them 'til I wore them out. Thanks for this vid. It brings back some great memories. Her voice is so pure and lyrical and warm. Perhaps one of our best singers ever. Love her.
Joan Baez's voice is absolute purity! Little did she realize when she was singing that horrific times were coming - we thought nothing could be worse than the VietNam period - but now the Trump regime has captured too many supposedly intelligent people . . .will we overcome?
Je n'étais qu'une enfant en bas de 10 ans lors de l'enregistrement de cet extrait musical ...j'ai connu cette chanteuse vers mon début d'âge adulte ..Vraiment très profonde ... She still has that effect on me after all these years. I watched this on TV in 1965, and I saw her live in England this year. I'm 72 years old and still fighting for justice in the world but only from a computer now. Keep going Joan!!!
Me, too! I so loved her music in H.S....sort of dived into it emotionally ... Saw her in concert in 1963 or 64, It was an intense experience; this took me back to that time.
I am a fan too. I have never seen her live, sadly. i am 72 and at the end of the 60s and start of the 70s when youth had a conscience she and others were our songs leading us to a better world. Sadly greed seems to have stopped that progress.

This unbelievably marvellous voice - like a clear bell... Joan Baez was a legend when I was young, in the 1970s, 80s, and she still is a legend today... The voice may have become somewhat more husky, but it's still wonderful... And in these incredibly painful days, when a crazed dictator is raining down death and destruction on places that I know and which I love, I find myself returning once more to Joan Baez... for solace, probably...
Hey! Charlotte Church used to have that moniker. Well, there’s lots of angels, and like snowflakes, none two are alike. Today Celion Dion (Canadian,) Sissel Krkjebo (Norwegian,) and Patricia Janeckova (Slovakian) are three angels singing to light up our lives. Can’t think of any good American singers now - most perform acrobatics and seem to have a 5 note range.
Truly a unique voice. Not only did she have a soprano high end that could cut through the densest fog like a knife, she also possessed a very resonate Low end. Listen to her sing "Boots of Spanish Leather" or "Sad Eyed Lady of the Low Lands" She not only hits those near contralto notes she makes an impression with them.
I was about 5 years old when I first heard a song that moved me so so much that I never forgot the name Joan Baez and have never forgotten . Thanks for the memories Stanislav'
I have many of her record & have to repair my stereo so it is wonderful to be able to hear her beautiful voice on my cell. I'm 80 & it's great to see she is well & singing. Like probably most of her fans I have loved her since the 60s.
Well, for those of us of a certain age, she certainly brings back memories. The utter simplicity of her music means that she enjoyed the kind of direct rapprochement with her audience that today seems almost unknown (and perhaps unwanted). She was an absolute marvel. If you've got the voice and the technique, you don't need a gazillion megawatts to cover your infirmities.
I first heard her in 1962. Totally intrigued, I bought her earliest Vanguard records. Now, 84 y.o., I don’t get all the words, I need captions. But, I’m still enchanted by her voice. A unique blend of tremolo and vibratto, her crystal- clear soprano soars above most others- but with a warm and cozy feel. Notiice how her guitar playing is different, and appropriate to each song.

A wonderful concert. Her 1st album, which included Silver Dagger, was something I would look forward to just sitting and listening to, back in the 60's. She had a very magical sound.
She is so amazing, never get tired of hearing that voice! One of the best of all time in my humble opinion. And to top it off shes also out of this world beautiful.Definitely in the top 5 of female voices that I have ever heard.
Another beautuful Norwegian voice is that of Sissel. She was born (1969) after Joan became a legend, she was picked to sing the Norwegian national anthem at the Olympic games in Lillehammer. Listen to "Like an Angel!" & "Sarah's Song!"
I grew up listening to Joan. Perfect voice that brought true meaning to those old ballads. She progressed and maintained her perfect interpretation of so many songs. I actually met her (and her mum). A genuine performer. So many traditional musos are up their own arses. Joan reminds us all that songs and music is for everyone.
In USSR this lady was THE ONLY SINGER allowed on their national radio. Her talent was captivating . Through her the nation of the USSR jailed inside their countries , fell in love with the USA spirit.

For God's sake , think man. It is not about her inadequacies , it's about the camera men , that don't have presence of mind and understanding , to appreciate her fingering the guitar , so unique , and therefore take part in obscuring the only occasion to have full benefits .
Do we (in USA) have a young Joan now, who presents this level of professionalism, this dignity, this endearing reserve, this gravitas, this credible pathos, this voice??!
+bruceh7211 No, man, Joan's voice is far better than Jackie's. Jackie Evancho is still too young and her voice has to mature more. She sounds too artificial.
Richard Litt Richard, Well, my question had a dual meaning: 1. Highlight Joan's wonderful qualities. 2. Find out if there is some rising female star in the field of folk music whom I do not know about.

Wish Joan Baez a happy life at her reaching 80 years. The legend and nightangle of all times.
