Making a temporary honey press and extracting the honey

  • I needed a quick honey press so I built a temporary one and it did a great job of extracting honey from the comb. After taking it apart I'll use the wood for making a bee box. But that's another video...

Great video. We do crush and strain to harvest and there always seems to be more honey left in the wax than I’d like to have. I’m planning on building some sort of press and yours looks great.
I even like your brand of cordless tools.

The key behind mine was that it could be disassembled. That made it possible to clean everything and to remove the press board. It also can be flat stacked and put away when not in use. Mine was meant to be temporary so you might be able to find some improvements if you are planning on making it a permanent thing. I might go back to crushing someday but right now we have a centrifuge. You can see it here and the "new" way that we found to remove the caps:

At 1:03, it looks like you screwed a solid board into the bottom? Where and how does the honey exit the press? Looking forward to building this; thanks!

There were holes drilled into the bottom board later. The comb was pressed so hard that we couldn't get the presser board out, even though there were handles on it. Taking the sides apart was necessary. Also, the bigger the screw the better. Ours was 3/8" and even then there was quite a bit of bend. It did the job fine but I wouldn't go any smaller. You can probably get some other ideas by looking at fruit presses on the internet.

There are no important dimensions. Just use whatever wood you have. Easy!
