Mr. David Myers...what to add to the gorgeous comments on your way to play? You must come from another planet, it's impossible to play as beautifully as you do! I thank you so much for making me feel so emotional while listening to your rendition. What a master you are!
I just want to say one more time how amazing this is. You have managed to actually give a good overview of the arrangement as heard by the original band - all the elements are there and simultaneously you have created a new version that pays heed to the specifics of the instrument you are playing and recreates the original in order to make for a cohesive dramatic and musical narrative within the contexts of this solo performance. I am in awe with how well these are put together and played.
The 1st time I saw you was at The Borgata in Atlantic City. I was so impressed, I saw TMB 22 more times in NJ, PA, NY & DE. (13 Selling, 8 Lamb & 2 Foxtrot) And I was wasted on painkillers & weed every damn time. 😎 I don't make a habit of that sort of thing, but old habits die hard & this music takes me back to my teen years. Only one way to be when one attends a TMB show, where I am concerned. You were great my friend !! The show lost something after Martin LeVac departed. His drumming drove the band, the sound- much the way Phil did with the original band. I liked to close my eyes during 'More Fool Me', because you'd swear it WAS Phil up there !! In fact, he was convincing with your eyes open. Martin's stage prescence was as close to Phil as one could be, essentially.... I bought your CD at one of the shows. I still play it in my car regularly... Tell me, please- knowing you had Tony's keyboard rig in front (essentially the same, anyway, I suppose... I heard the Mellotron was the outer shell shape with the digital setup within it. Was that, in fact, the case ?) of you nightly, did this provided a sense of excitement ? Or was it truly just another gig & the novelty wore off after a while ? I know that after a few attempts, Tony dropped the intro to 'Firth of Fifth', for not playing it the way he thought it should've been played- not up to his own standards, apparently.... Did that scenario play on your mind when you played it ? Lastly, what was your favorite Genesis song to perform on stage & why ? You talented musicians actually brought something to me & many others would have LOVED to be able to have experienced courtesy of the original band. It was an excellent show & as near as could be, due to all your hard work & band practice to bring shows alive again that had been buried for 25-30 years. And to me, you had the best part conceivable. For this reason: All of the members in Genesis were integral to the overall, complete sound. But as important as they all were, to me, one defined the overall scheme better than the rest... Mr. Tony Banks !! His chords & leads, to me, best defined the Genesis sound. I viewed you back then as having the best job on the planet, man !! If you can't in fact be Tony Banks, you had the ability to do the next best thing....(aside from actually BEING George Duke, Wakeman, Lord, Kaye or Argent...🤪) You were a huge part in something great. That the whole group, onstage or behind the scenes, did what they did to lovingly recreate one of the best bands stage show, like you guys did ? Being there in the 8th row of my 1st Selling show at The Borgata was simply magnificent, a high point in my existence !! Ranks right up there with meeting an affable, congenial & beautiful 38 year old Maureen McCormick in Nov. of 1994 in NYC. I know I asked you several questions here....if you're able to respond to some of them, I would indeed be grateful. Your shows were like a religious experience for those of us that never forgot how truly great early Genesis was. I am eternally grateful for you & your bandmates for bringing it to us like you did. Completely worthwhile endeavor, my friend. THANK YOU A MILLION TIMES OVER !!😎
Hey Craig, thanks a lot for your message. The Borgata: good times! Sweet memories. Yes, Martin leaving was a huge blow to the TMB product; some people are irreplaceable. We had two real Mellotrons on stage in the early days, when there were 2 keyboardists, but when I became the only one, I went with the shell as you mention. I made two TH-cams of my kit which you can see on this channel and everything is explained. Just another gig? Impossible. You could never do that gig with that mentality, it required endless hours of commitment and experimentation; only a total freak could be in that band. Favorite G song to perform? Hard to choose. Maybe Seven Stones. Tony Banks would've abandoned playing the Firth intro live because he only had an RMI Electra Piano, which had a certain charm to it, but was a horrifying proposition when talking about playing a grand piano solo.
@@verity9000 Seven Stones, eh ? Was that part of the Foxtrot set ? Hard to recall, as I only saw 2 of those gigs... Cool, great to be talking to David Myers !! Jeez, what memories. I saw you guys every opportunity I had between '03-'07, or so. Atlantic City Borgata, Taj Mahal (I know you moved on before those Lamb shows at The Taj...), The Keswick Theater outside Philly, Bethlehem, PA, Tribeca Theater, NYC, Starland Ballroom, Sayreville, NJ (Selling music set, with Foxtrot era stage, as the stage was too small for the Selling props !!) 23 times, total. Good God, I think I will always look at that time as the prime of my life. AND YOU WERE A HUGE REASON FOR THAT, MY FRIEND !! 😎
This song has the can’t factor as such can’t ever be played more perfectly by another human being on the planet. A rendition that will never be outdone A true masterwork
This work is executed with remarkable precision and creativity, offering a fresh and impressive take on the original piece. It's truly an outstanding reinterpretation. This takes us back to the piano insight of Tony Banks, his compositional genius. The use of Greek allegorical imagery is matched by the technical virtuosity.
Thank you very kindly for your interest! Yes, all the arrangements are available in two volumes of manuscript I spent a few thousand hours working on and publishing. They are available through my website: DavidMyersMusic dot ca
One for the wine semble à ma portée.
RP
Hey Mike, Thank you very kindly for all your attention! The "big to small" switch at the end was actually a discovery where at a certain point, with nowhere "bigger" to go, I figured, "let's go the other way!" I will check out your channel.
+David Myers what can I say. I believe Tony Banks to be the reincarnation of Mozart in our century. And I have seen the Musical Box many times. Are you joining them in Kitchener end of Jan?
1:58 to 2:052:21 to 2:232:11 to 2:133:27 to 3:33 and 2:15 to 2:16 are details of thi melody that i liked so much. Better on acoustic piano than electric one. Brilliant arrangement David. :)
magnificent , incredible ,beauty reinterpreted in such an elegance , genesis are honored here and totally immortalized!! I feel i am very lucky, i can subscribe to you , this fantastic channel ! What a creative ending , i am chilled out ,thank you
Thank you so much, Mark! I really appreciate you checking it out. I hope you video your performance! There are so many people out there who can play this stuff much better than me; I would love to see it!
Oh that was really good to listen to. I am a huge early Genesis fan and pianist. That was an awesome arrangement. There are often many themes in the songs that sometimes seem thrown together (I think they sometimes were in the studio!) but you glued them all together beautifully, creating a beautiful piano piece that will also appeal to people who know nothing of Genesis. I will certainly favourite you and buy your CD. Bravo. It would be nice to buy a transcription. Do you have such a thing?
I learned the original by ear then wrote my own arrangement and then put it in sheet music, which is now for sale on my website! DavidMyersMusic dot ca Thanks!
I hope I never get jaded and blasé about your excellent piano-playing. Each time I watch and listen to your piano-playing I wish I were half as good as you are (I can dream, can't I?). Btw, have you arranged anything for the piano from "Trespass"? Especially "Stagnation" and "The Knife"? Also, "Entangled", "Trick of the Tail", "Unquiet Slumbers for the Sleepers ...", "... In That Quiet Earth", and "Afterglow"? "Unquiet..." and its follow-up might not be doable for one person on piano ... but I have no doubt that someone of your excellent skills could find *some* way to play them on piano. (They're certainly beyond my own piano-playing ability.)
Sir- You brought out any latent beauty that was not obvious in the original! Genesis should share royalties with YOU! Are there transcriptions available? I'm a Pianist living in Central Mexico, and I would love to do this as an encore at my concerts! Crediting your arrangement- of course!
i just told my sister to bring me your piano sheet from the states, i ll try to play some which i doubt i can ... i saw your invisible hands playing ,they barely touch the keyboard; one should be born with it....
I think it's real hard work to learn this, right? Even if you are a great piano player it probably takes weeks of concentration and focus to arrange some heavy shit like that... Awesome..!
Pure music art
this is so fantastic, i am a great Genesis Fan, but i thing this would tony making happy.
hopefully i can you see live on stage .

Love the way you interpreted the mellotron swells. Genius.
Thank you kindly!
One cannot stress enough the fact that this is so incredibly well executed! A brilliant reinterpretation of a wonderful original piece.
Thank you very kindly, Tobias!

Speechless. Thank you. Have seen you many times as part of The Musical Box but this is truly something special. Exceptional! Thx!
As Hackett said quite difficult to perform live, a wonderful rendition of classic genesis as ive ever heard' Bellissimo!
Never heard best piano version of any song in my entire life. I'm speechless. Love it.
