    Thank you for sharing these looks with us ! 😊 I really loved both of the skirts with either of the black or white T-shirts . I think keeping the upper body simple really highlighted the pretty patterns of the skirts! The white blazer looks really lovely on you because it is more tailored to provide an hour-glass shape. Rolling up any long sleeves will show off the slimness of your wrists .The tan slide sandals really elongated your legs too ! X 👍😃

      Ah thank you!! Yes! I think the ankle straps on sandals can definitely make your legs look shorter, I noticed that when I watched it back… I was lucky with the white blazer, a charity shop find, many years ago, and I still pull it out every summer… have a wonderful week ahead 🥰

    Great find! I think it looks great on you and you found some great ways to style it! I am 49 and inverted triangle with wider shoulders and bigger bust than hips. I agree that midi skirts can be hard. I like wearing them with a tank and then a button down shirt tied at the waist over the tank or open like you did or with a tee tied in a knot at the waist. I loved your white blazer over the cropped tank on you!

    I really loved the white and blue skirt on you; very fresh and breezy for summer. The white top picks out the white in the skirt and gives you a nice long line and the illusion of a small waist. I find an A-line shape is really flattering for that reason. Anyway, here is my opinion of the new skirt and what I think you can do:- When I put together an outfit, I think of what the hero piece is and simplify what is going to go with it. This is because it's the hero piece that I want to bring attention to. For example, if it's a flared skirt, then I don't want to wear a big baggy top with it. If I have a patterned dress, then I want my accessories to be simple, and I will either play with classics, e.g. navy pattern with tan, or go tonal picking out the colours in the pattern. If I want to clash colours, say, a red bag with a green dress, the dress has to be plain for maximum effect. So the brown patterned skirt is your hero piece, which has quite a lot of drama in shape and pattern, so you want everything else to be very simple (unfortunately, I think the big puffy sleeves on the white top are fighting with the skirt to be the hero). I would try to keep things tonal and simple shapes because the contrast of the black and the white t-shirt is too harsh and shortens the body. The black is also killing the colour. I can't quite make out the colours in the pattern but would try and pick out a colour from the skirt, like deep burnt orange, goldy yellow, or dark brown and pair the skirt with a top with those colours. I think the skirt is quite dressy and needs a very delicate barely there strappy sandal in metallics or even a heeled mule. Also, I'm not sure the jackets work, but then I find it hard to pair jackets with skirts. It's getting the length right that I have a problem with. It would be great if you could do another video once you have found what works! Oh, I am 57 and 5 ft 7 with an annoyingly big bum and hips that I am always trying to hide, lolz. In the end, I find it's all about playing with proportions and getting that hourglass shape. P.S. I also like that satin skirt look but the bias cut just screams, "Hey, look at my enormous hips, thighs and bum!". Definitely, not one I can carry off. Sorry for the essay...

    • @hideawaycottage
      @hideawaycottage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Amazing 🤩 haha, don’t be sorry for the “essay” this is exactly the type of information I need lol, everything you’ve said makes perfect sense, and now with hindsight I can see what you mean about them fighting against each other and shortening the body… you definitely know your stuff! Such good tips, and I think you’re so right about the shoes, I don’t have any heels except the black ones in the video but I think I need some delicate strappy ones like you said… I feel as though I need you on FaceTime when I next go shopping haha… I really appreciate your time in sharing your tips, both for me, and for other ladies… thank you 😊 🙏

    I'm a new subscriber and I really enjoy your content. I agree that wearing a midi skirt as a woman with curves (I'm also 43 and size 14) can be really tricky. Sometimes it can look extremely frumpy!! Lately I decided that tucking in my shirt doesn't work well. But if I do an asymetrical twist knot on the side it looks better. The top also has to be quite tight otherwise the volume on the bottom just swallows me up. I'm excited to see your ideas and see if they work for me. (I am shorter, so that is also a bit tricky!!)

    • @hideawaycottage
      @hideawaycottage  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      👋 hey, oh it’s so nice to meet you, and welcome, and thank you for sharing your tips, I’ve never thought to do a asymmetrical knot… I’m going to try that… and yes! I think that’s why the first white top didn’t look right as it was too voluminous… x

    • @alamedadanceparty
      @alamedadanceparty ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hideawaycottage @hideawaycottage The asymmetrical knot works well for me, so hopefully it works for you. I tried tucking my knot under the shirt as you showed in this video and it was great! Also, a second idea to consider is the soft vs structure. For me, sometimes if the top & bottom pieces are both "soft", it doesn't work as well as when I combine soft + structured. I have soft curves on top & bottom, so if I add structure to contrast them it looks better. I mention this just to say that the adjustment with the first top could be related to the softness. Maybe if it had more structure you might enjoy the overall look more...? Just something to consider that sometimes does the trick for me when I feel frumpy!!

    I think you are absolutely beautiful and stunning! You wear your pieces so well and have good taste, and how to dress your body proportionately. One thing I have learned about thrift and vintage clothing is that balancing your wardrobe with more modern pieces can really bring a beautiful, unique juxtaposition to your outfits. Both of these skirts you found are just gorgeous and I would’ve picked them up as well! you style them more modern Lee with the way you wear your other pieces. One of my favorite things to do is to pair a single vintage piece with modern jewelry, I find this brings an outfit up-to-date very nicely. Skirts are some of the hardest to find in the Thrift. I love midi and maxi skirts. I have a few with elastic waist bands that are carrying me through my third pregnancy at the moment. So you can guess what my shape is! Definitely a belly going on. I am 30 and otherwise fairly flat stomach but we will see how my body comes down after a third pregnancy.

    Being a shortie (5'2), I struggle to find good midi skirts for my height. Petite ranges don't really cater for that style in general. I buy midi skirts to wear at high ankle hight and I have got used to that. It's funny isn't it, that something paired with it can make you look drab or fab! A lovely video. Interesting to see the different looks but I personally preferred the pencil slit skirt without the jacket. A totally different thought for me would be to stitch close the opening from the top about 2” or 2 1/2” ….not sure if it would have enough room to walk easily if it were closed but I thought it would be more flattering with a slightly shorter gap. It would make the skirt appear more lineal and not cut you off at the shorter length. Perhaps the slit was measured for a taller model? Just a thought 😊

    • @hideawaycottage
      @hideawaycottage  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey 👋 thank you so much, it’s so good to get feedback and ideas…I haven’t actually worn the skirt as much as I thought, so I’m guessing subconsciously I don’t feel quite right in it, it’s always a good sign isn’t it If you keep reaching for certain pieces in your wardrobe…I will look at changing the slit as maybe that would make it feel nicer. Thanks again, have a lovely day x x

    Lovely skirts and very helpful thanks. I've always loved skirts but at 62 am starting to find them tricky because for me a summer skirt always went best with a little vest but that's no longer my thing. I have a similar ruched skirt but without the split. I've been getting on ok with a linen blouse that falls just below the waist.
