Hi John. Capt. Mike is using a Shimano Stella 18k spooled with 100lb hollowcore braid. The rod is a custom built heavy action rod, and the lure is a 6oz Hogy Charter Grade Slider.
How much hollowcore fits on that reel?? And have you ever had any issues with the amount of line you have. Im very torn between a stella 20k or a penn authority 10500 because of line cap and sont know whether to use straight braid or hollow
Hi Danny. Glad you enjoyed the video. The rod Capt. Mike is using is actually a custom built rod. I would recommend a heavy action 7'-8' rod for casting to bluefin.
No special license to catch tuna. There are some seasonal considerations for certain species. You have to be on your A game both with gear and technique to find and land these big ones.
Almost 13 pounds of drag for that bft! 😮 That's amazing!
What reels, lines and rods were you using and the lures were nice what type were they?

Nice video. I’m looking a rod to pair a Shimano Stella 14000 for top water fishing for bluefin tuna. What rod is that?

Do you have to a special fishing license in order to catch tuna or just a regular saltwater license? And what size is the reel and line?

Moonpie Spotlight you need a hms permit
😊
Very nice. What rod do you used guys?
custom rod
What kind of rod and real are you guys using? Out here in Southern California we have always used conventional reels all most exclusively.
Stella reel, probably an 18 or 20k I am not sure what the rod is. I use a Carpenter or a Synit popping rod...
Why mostly using conventional reel in southern California? Spinning reel seems like easy to use.
Thanks
woa.... good fish
