I wanted to further explain the f-log 2 situation. Every Fujifilm camera has a different log curve, which is why Fuji provides different luts for each camera. DaVinci Resolve created it's own gamma curve that works decent with most Fujifilm camera logs. In reality, DaVinci's f-log gamma is not made for f-log 2, but it's still made to work with most Fuji cameras. In short, it won't convert f-log 2 perfectly, but it also doesn't convert regular f-log the same each time either. You can try using DaVinci's f-log gamma curve and experimenting on how well it works with your specific camera, even if you shoot f-log 2. I hope this helps any f-log 2 users out there, and I just want to say I'm jealous of your new camera! :)
@@andr101 I would suggest using ARRI LogC3 as the Input Gamma instead. This should work well and is what I have used in the past for CST on Flog2 footage.
Great video! Thanks for taking the time to do that. With this tutorial, I'd like to know what your Project Settings were set to - specifically color science, timeline and output color space (under the color management tab). Thanks.
Simple and straightforward tutorial. I learn more from these 5 minute videos than those long drawn out videos where there saying everything but still saying nothing
This is the best explainer on a quick grade for us flog2 / xh2s peeps ❤ subbed!! Quick q… how do you disable and turn off a node quick, shortcut wise? 👀
Hi , I bought the xs-20 few months ago & love it. When I baoght it I had photos in mind, now venturing into video I am facing a problem. My PC can't handel 10 bit footage. I have to shoot 8 bit for the time being, before I can upgrade my PC. My question is if I shoot 8 bit 4.2.0 f-log 2, would I face issue grading that footage?
You may face some banding issues when grading 8 bit footage especially in the log profile. You will see this most when it’s a gradient of color like in the sky. There’s no real way of getting around this other than not pushing your image too much. You’ll want to do basic minor adjustments and not huge color shifts. It also may help to get the look in camera so that you don’t have to tweak the colors much in post. I definitely recommend upgrading though since 10 bit is the new standard. But honestly shooting on anything is better than not shooting at all. Keep learning color grading and you can improve your equipment over time!
question, what's your project settings for the color space transform section in the color management tab? Do you just leave that as default since you're doing stuff in the color page? Not sure if you know what I mean.
@@dirthousemc_ it really depends on on the person, but I will say that most would fix the rec 2020 color space since the colors would be less accurate and may make your look harder to create. But you can definitely add contrast yourself if that’s what you like to do. Personally I always transform the color space and gamma. But some professionals when working with film footage keep the gamma without converting the cineon log. I hope this helps and makes sense! Let me know if you have other questions.

The first method doesn't work at all with flog2. Footage is still washed out.
@@andr101Thanks for the update! What happens when you use it? Are there any tips you have for f-log 2 users?

This has got to be the most helpful color grading tutorial. It actually makes sense!

Great question! I just leave it default. I tried using it in the past, but the setup wasn't what I needed for my workflow.
Do professionals always apply a colorspace converter when working with F-Log? Or do they build their own look from scratch?
