  • Just a short late evening flight around the area with my youngest niece.
Shows approach and landing over the trees into a grass strip and the approach and landing on the new Runway 10 touchdown zone just after construction finished. New blacktop and markings for the first 1000' of the Runway.

    How far it can fly?

About 450NM depending on conditions. Holds 14 gallons and we cruise at 2.2 gph at 75 mph.

Sorry, but I would never take any child on a flight like that where they are not of adequate maturity to judge the risks to themselves.

Just as I would not ride a child on a motorcycle.

Great flight and flawless landing. I'm in about 18 hours and just learning landings. Any advice on timing, judging your height, what you look at etc? Thanks.

I use the stair step method to land. Glide down to 300' AGL on short final, then fly level at 300' to slow down, (I touch 55 mph for just a split second on my wing) Without delay, drop the nose down, (it will be easier because you are slow) increase your speed, pull in to keep it coming down - aim for the 1000' stripes down the runway (if at an airport - It is less turbulent away from the end of the runway and the speed will help cut through any turbulence) Look at the far end of the runway to judge you height, not over the nose at the ground. Start a small (tiny) round out at 10 feet high or so, keep it coming down to about 6 -12 inches above the surface while finding the center line. Fly level at 6-12 inches and bleed the speed off - (It will land itself). Time it to touch the control bar to the compression strut just after the back tires touch down. This entire process is done at idle. (so it will work for an engine out.) Once on the ground keep the bar pushed out to slow down, pull the bar in to put weight on the wheels before applying the brakes. This technique works well on the Revo and the Rival X wing. Disclaimer: What works for my Trike/Wing combo may not work for yours. If your instructor says differently, follow their advice. What do you fly?

@@mikewhitson9152 Thanks for the reply. I have been flying a Revo. The problems is that I can only take a lesson once or twice a month for an hour or so due to my work schedule. I think that if I could go more consistently it would help.

@@toddmathis7484 Are you flying with Larry , Wes, or Rick in Florida? The Revo just takes time to master. I have about 30 hours PIC in the Revo and I am just starting to put things together and I am still learning. I came from an Air Creation XP-15 wing I trained on back in 2001. You have to man handle that XP wing and it had no energy retention. Combined with my GA flying background I have a tendency to want to over control the Rival wing by moving the control bar side to side. I have to calm down and remember that with the Rival wings it is all about control pressure and not moving the bar more then a inch or so side to side. Anything excessive causes a dutch roll and the nose starts doing crazy things. Dead weight from your hands, arms and shoulders on the bar and control pressure is the key. Keep your thumbs on top of the bar and your elbows down. ...And fly as much and as often as you can early on.

@@mikewhitson9152 Thanks for the reply and advice. I am in about 18 hours for more than 2 years with Pacific BLUE Air at Hawthorne airport. It's just south of LAX and very busy. Noise restrictions keep us from flying the pattern and landing practice until 10 am. By then wind comes off the ocean and the aircraft gets squirrelly. I am looking to contact leo fitzgerald who flys in the nevada desert for some additional training.

@@toddmathis7484 Todd, Pacific Blue Air runs a great operation. If you can learn to fly in that environment (busy airspace, control tower, etc) you will be comfortable flying anywhere. Best of luck to you. Look me up if you are ever in the Columbus, Ohio area.
