- Today being the anniversary of the sinking of the SS Eastland in the Chicago River, I wanted to share a recent exploration I did on Mackinac Island, the site of Eastland's first port-of-call during her delivery trip.
Check out the Eastland Disaster Historical Society at eastlanddisaster.org/
July 24, 2023 marks exactly 108 years since the passenger ship SS Eastland capsized in the Chicago River.
Approximately 845 people were lost.
RIP to all those who lost their lives during the sinking of SS Eastland on July 24, 1915.
May They Never Be Forgotten.
Love your channel and content.
enjoy michigan its beautiful!
sincerely a michigander!
👍
Glad to see even the smaller parts of the history still being talked about
Love the graphics!
It's always interesting to learn about Great Lakes ship history. Kinda overlooked. Keep up the good work!
South Haven is a gorgeous little town
Absolutely. I'm about 20 east of there by Gobles. Southwest Michigan is the Best place to live....
Eastland always picks up the ears of people of Czechoslovakian background from Chicago . Grandparents worked in the stockyards or at Western Electric and you could hear Americanized Czech spoken on the streets of the “old neighborhood.”
These shorts are cool. And yes the cap is too.
Darn you were only an hour away from my hometown.
Neat spot. No cars allowed😊
I'm a michiganian... Michigander... I live in Michigan and despite even reading books about the Eastland I was unaware of that detail, thank you!
That is a very cool hat. I wish I had one
I have a very similar hat which you can get. It also is black and has a cap to protect against the sun and it is adjustable so head size don’t matter. Really the only difference is that mine doesn’t say eastland 1915
This video is actually genuinely underated and damm
Ha! I knew I saw you on the island, but it was just in passing, hope you enjoyed that historic island!
I love your videos, so fascinating
I ❤ God. He is always at our side.
I don’t know if this is video from when you did you Eastland disaster research, or more recent, but it’s exciting to see you in the Midwest.
That was a wild one! I can’t tell you how many times we’ve walked by where that happened along the Chicago River and had no idea!
Hope you had some fudge while there, its quite good!
Sailed there every summer in my teen years as a boat hand to a group of attorneys who would do the yearly sailboat race, plenty of fudge, rich people and cute girls was all I remember
wow, you are so lucky to see this place is the ship still lying under the water in the harbor in The Community?
Scrapped 1947 . Marker of the disaster by the river .
Love the videos and the hat
I ❤ only God and myself.
Port "Hurrr-On" lol
I thought funny also
Thank you for pronouncing Mackinac correctly lol
I'll be there on the island in a couple months. Love northern Michigan. If you want to get to Heaven, it's just Nort'a Da bridge !!! From Escanaba In Da Moonlight....
Had balast problems!😮
🇺🇸🌎👍❤
Just fyi, us Midwesterners would pronounce "Huron" more like "HYUR-on"
Oh...nice...
Wait...what?! DISASTER?!
Badly engineered, no doubt the original design woudl have been more stable for when you want a kayak that rolls easy you get a short one versus longer, hence the Eastland would have been better off before they hacked the middle off, I wonder what the reason was for this, port costs??
And??
What no black tie affair with the who's who of world explorers?
Don't worry. Be gay.
