Ahh, the dreaded belt goo! It's amazing that no matter how careful you are, it still gets all over everything. I have a pretty good selection of parts machines here if you need anything. You can't save em all!
@ 1:08 You never can tell. You either see a belt that goes soft and gooey, or a belt that dries out and cracks. I was always impressed that while Sony gave up on their Beta format, they also sold among the best VHS format machines. They innovated features that were not available elsewhere to consumers, while not pushing out crap for crap's sake.
When i have a belt that is melted to goo if possible i put the part in my ultrasonic cleaner with simple green. It takes roughly 30 minutes to a hour depending on how bad the belt goo is but at the end the parts come out with no belt residue left on them.
I see a lot of nasty belt goo in portable vintage boomboxes but not so much in VCR's. 😓 As for the carriage, I suspect some form of abuse; e.g. tapes being forced may have contributed to some of the damage. 😔 _(but that's only a guess)_
Hello! My friend has a Pioneer CLD-79 LaserDisc player which could use servicing. Are you accepting mail-in repairs? I would be more than happy to give you details about the issues he has noted with the player over email. We are both based out of Tacoma, Washington. Thanks!
Hi, I have mechanism , whole module with all the motors snd video heads, also front drop down panel for Sony Hi Fi vcr...not shure what model, but it may work

Once the belts get stretchy like he showed they are DONE. They don't last.
I have thought about getting an ultrasonic cleaner. Do you use water or isopropyl alcohol in yours?
