*Great video bro. Just wished u played more fitting music then the cheesy beats. Mayb some Gregorian Chant or a Celtic haarp/lute would’ve been nice*
Elvas in Portugal has the biggest fortifications in Europe, you should check it out
Just found your channel as the family and I are looking to go to Europe next summer. Just curious how do you get such cool drone shots, do you take all of those yourself and does Europe have the same restrictions like they do here in the United States where you can't fly over people or cars, your shots are absolutely stunning but I just wondered are you just taking a chance or is it allowed over there.
Its impossible to beat Medieval Europe!
Couldn't agree more :)

Medieval Azteks ?
The middle east was great with history until The US andGB destroyed a hell of a lot and still do?
18 years war in Iraq!
Great video!
Makes me proud of my European heritage
@@arolemaprarath6615
But Europeans destroyed many towns and heritage sites of Asia.bruh
Thank you for including Gdańsk and Malbork. Kind regards!
I swear every time I watch one of Ryan’s videos it just makes me want to travel!
Aye! That’s the goal!
Then I see my bank account and then I cry
Are you related?
Wow we've added several more places to our 'Bucket-List' after watching this! Thanks for sharing some incredible lesser-known places - beautiful video & really informative as always 😊👌🏼
Aye that's what I love to hear! Its hard to beat Medieval Europe!
I have been really enjoying your travel videos. You don't drowned your narration out with loud obnoxious music. We really enjoy your aerial photography.
Thanks so much John! I really appreciate it! Where are you based?
@@RyanShirley Los Angeles
Love this video! Europe is such an amazing place. I cant wait to visit, until then I am living life in Alaska!
Thanks so much Sophia! Hopefully corona can end so you can go! I need to visit Alaska!
@@RyanShirley We are really hoping to plan out a trip in about 2 years. Fingers crossed that Corona is a distant memory by then.
Great Channel!
@@jordanandsoph I wish i could visit Alaska lol. The natural beauty of that state is unmatched.
@@JPS-sc1zn Yes it certainly is!
Top 3 in Portugal! Guimarães near Braga in north; Óbidos near Leiria in center and Évora in south of Portugal!💚❤️🇵🇹👍🏻 In the rest of Europe, Tallinn, Estónia, Bruges in Flanders and Bologna in Italy!
Marvellous stuff, here in NZ we have nothing older than the early 1800s!
As a NZer, I had only one chance at Europe; it literally couldn't be further away.
Of these, I saw only two, Carcassonne and Avignon, both impressive.
I would add a few more:
Strasbourg, France. known only by a documentary.
Aigues Mortes, France, saw, fantastic walls.
Avila, Spain, saw. great walls
Toledo, Spain, saw, compact old city
Segovia, Spain, saw, with great Roman aqueduct.
Spoleto, Italy, saw, sits on top of an old volcanic outcrop.
Too obvious, but Venice, Italy, heard. It is a marvellous gem for its quietness. As carless as all Medieval cities were, and modern cities could be one day, hopefully.
I wouldn't call Venice quiet, in spite of the nickname (la Serenissima). The center, where most tourists perambulate, has a lot of sounds and white noise all day. It's quieter after 10pm when the day trippers are gone, or on some of the smaller, outer islands.
@@ixlnxs Well, I just went walking through the side streets, back to the ferry, and that's where I gained my impression.
Carcassonne is a must see if you like fortified towns. Walls are intact and even the houses inside the walls are from the middle age.
Point du gard is also super impressive. It is much taller than I would have thought from watching the pictures. It's easily accessible by car. There is a light show during summer evenings.
Valletta is a beautiful town but I hate to break it to you: there's nothing medieval about it. It was established over 50 years after the middle ages ended.
Great work again Ryan, pleasure to watch! And beautiful footage :)
Thanks Stef! Got any trips coming up?
@@RyanShirley Not really, but hopefully next year. You?
Plenty of great cities and villages in Spain!
WOW Ryan, what an excellent job you do. Special thanks for your footage of Croatia.
I always take it for granted to live on such a beautiful continent until I see videos like this. Also I missed Nuremberg on the list. It’s my hometown and I think it deserved at least an honorable mention
your videos make me wanna travel so bad, love the music in the background keep it up😍
Thanks so much Emmanuel! I hope you can travel soon! Gotta love saxophone house music!
I always love Medieval Cities in Europe and have lived in a small Medieval town of Kalamr in Sweden for 30 years.. Thank you for the clip - Nice. Best wishes from Stockholm City - Sweden
Wow, I need to visit Kalamr next time I’m there :)
@@RyanShirley Welcome any time :-) to Kalmar - A nice small Medieval town along Baltic Sea. Kalmar Castle and beautiful park with lots of floers.
33 trips to Europe from my home in California and of your cities I've only been to Carcassonne, Avignon and Bologna (best food in Europe).
Yet I've been to all of those countries save Malta and Estonia.
Great video!
Well done! Excellent work- beautiful and breathtaking scenes.
Thanks so much Emory!
Czech Republic 🇨🇿😍😍
Beautiful video again! Actually I've been to six of them already, but I am very excited to take on travelling again when all this stuff is over.... Greetings from Austria
No way, which one was your favorite?
@@RyanShirley I think carcassonne still fulfills these medival town expectations the best
@@gabbo2630 While there, Carcassonne, I stayed at the hostel and had a wonderful time. The towers have been rebuilt and look great.
Thx from Estonia❤️
You're welcome 😊 Love your city!
Great video! I love touring medieval cities. In Spain we have many amazing medieval cities. I recommend Caceres, Toledo, Segovia or Salamanca.
Greetings from Spain!👋🙂
I got to visit them all!
Weird how you forgot Prague. While there are mixed in newer styles, the medieval historic sites are defining milestones for the epoch.
Well i think the style mix is the argument here. Don't get me wrong, i love the Prague medieval heritage, but it is just not concentrated to any place in specific, but scattered among the build-up area with younger (16.-18. century) architecture.
That makes Prague amazing walk-through history of architecture book, but not the medieval fairytale town. It is just regular fairytale :-))
ery nice video presentation , thank you so much , welcome to Croatia
Another wonderful video. Thank you for letting me know about this one.
Thanks so much friend!
Love Europe, Ryan is so good at capturing the beauty of it.
Thanks so much Theo!!
Wow! Great! Such a beautiful place! Cities!!! Landscapes! I want to go there! Thank you for a wonderful video! 👍

80 % of the beautiful historical town Gdansk was ruined by soviets, after the germans gave up😢😢😢
Like Königsberg/Kaliningrad right?
Thank you for the footage, great presentation.

Mdina in Malta is the best Medieval town. Used in Game of Thrones it's stunning.

Great video Ryan. I love historical architecture too and thanks so much for the historical information you give us so interesting.
Thanks so much Donna! I find the history of Europe so fascinating!

I love watching your videos to relax at the end of a long day
Aye, that makes me so happy to hear! Where are you from?
@@RyanShirley I'm from Algeria. I watched this one with my mom, and when I saw that she liked it so much (despite the fact that she doesn't understand much) I showed her a couple of other ones. She loved them, especially the mountains and the islands ones ^^
Romania also has some medieval gems to offer - Sibiu and Brazov are just two examples
And sighisoara
Beautiful video.
Europe Top 10.

I miss the city of Avila (Spain) on this list. It deserves a visit.
I love the medieval wall around the city! I'll have to visit this summer.
And Segovia nearby.
And Toledo, Granada, Cuenca, Teruel, Úbeda, Baeza, Peñíscola, Morella, Pedraza, and many other cities and towns around Spain.
Aínsa, Besalú, Fuenterrobles, Rubielos de Mora, Albarracín, Ronda, Chinchón, Frías, etc.
I just LOVE your videos. Once again, great work. You're truly inspiring. thanks for sharing your experiences. ;)
Thanks so much Rui! That means a lot! Where are you from?
Thank you Ryan
Thanks for sharing
You bet!
Excellent reporting friend, aerial shots are exceptional and timelapse are perfect. The cities, some of them, I'm lucky enough to meet them, the others, I sign them up, by the time I can go. Here in Spain, you have missed putting Cáceres, which is the third best medieval ensemble in the world, and is a world heritage site.
Have a nice weekend my friend, greetings. 🤙🤙🤙
Thanks so much Diego! I’m going to do some research in Cáceres, sounds amazing!
Siena - Italy, Visby - Sweden, Lucca - Italy...many many more there. But your list is a good start 😎
Wow, just looked up Visby and looks amazing! I've never heard of it before!
@@RyanShirley Glad to hear that you discovered something new to shoot more awesome footage 😎👍
Good Work!!!
Thanks friend :)
It's good to see people appreciating culture, while others are whinning about it's relation with whatever "bad history" as they say.
Bro let’s move out from Europe:) 😃
Great video as usual
Haha Europe is just too fascinating! I'll start thinking of some new videos. Where should I include next?
In Sweden: Visby and Stockholm.
Yeah, Visby should be in here for sure and Stockholm is awesome too.
Hey bro hope you are well and having a great day. So sorry we haven't been able to visit you for a while we were in Bulgaria then Malta were we got stuck due to Covid and flights we're cancelled. But great to catch up with you again. Thanks so much for sharing your top 10. I want to do them all. Totally awesome bro. Fantastic editing, stay safe and catch up again real soon God bless you bro.

I feel blessed I have been to most of those places .... god, I miss travelling :-(
You're well traveled! Where is your favorite place you've visited?
Very great work my friend. Stay safe. Greetings from Reise Visionen
Thanks friend! Hope all is well :)
I already feel at home with places like Carcassonne, Cesky Krumlov, and Tallinn Estonia. Places like Valletta Malta felt similar to places like Israel.
Its hard to beat the vibe in Carcassonne and Cesky Krumlov, such magical towns!
@@RyanShirley I spent a week in Krumlov in September. The place is now completely empty and because it is ussualy full of tourist and people don´t live in center anymore, it was even more empty that it used to be in socialism. And for lunch is better to go to Budweis or any other town because the restaurants there are used just to cook for tourists who will never came back so the meal is not good. But Český Krumlov is not the only pretty old town here, you can see České Budějovice (Budweis), Třeboň (I live in - spa Renaissance town, biospheric reservation UNESCO - place of lakes and ponds - www.itrebon.cz/index.php), Jindřichův Hradec (th-cam.com/video/1ECMmJ3_C1U/w-d-xo.html) or Tábor (with it´s very special history - www.visittabor.eu/homepage) - all nearby and beautiful - for example those two castles th-cam.com/video/qlLaZbn7A3I/w-d-xo.html.

You took my advice on Obidos! I was there during Medieval Festival, so much fun !
Portugal is so amazing ❤
Yes! I did some research and I was amazing! Thanks for suggesting it :)
I thought Sintra, the summer residence of the royals in Portugal, was quite stunning and looks like they left yesterday.
@@carlechevarria2226 Sintra is so amazing!
Those are nice cities but I was expecting places that were not destroyed and rebuilt, more like Dubrovnik or Krakow.
Dubrovnik was quite destroyed in the 90´s... 😥
There are nearly no cities in Europe which got never destroyed since the Middle Ages
Hello ryan , these are so great videos and you have made me more determined to my goal of traveling . If its possible can you make a setup video ,how you do your stuff in near future. cuz these are really beautiful shots. thanks for he videos man
Thanks Shivang! I’ll start thinking of a video
Awesomeness..love Prague gonna check the other one
Thanks Andrea! You gotta check out Cesky Krumlov then :)
Been to Tallin, Estonia 🇪🇪 in 2010 does have an old school feel...they were stuck in the 80s 😃
I'm not sure what you mean by that 😄

I was suprised not to find Spanish cities like Toledo, Santiago de Compostela or Granada. Still a good top tho
I should have included them. But they are in my Spain top 20 video.
Me too, and Cáceres or Gerona also.
And Segovia, Avíla, etc
@@carlosdcl8596 of course (resulta extraño esto de hablar en inglés entre castellanohablantes).
Theres alot you can miss in a top 10
Beautiful.

It seems that you did'nt visit Umbria, in the heart of Italy, 150 km from Rome. If you did, you'll have discovered a dozen of the well preserved medieval little towns of Europe. Just as an example, Gubbio, Spoleto, Assisi, Todi etc. And speaking of bigger medieval cities, in the North East of Italy, well known to Shakespeare, it's impossible not to mention Verona, Mantua, Ferrara, Ravenna etc.
Edinburgh, Lubeck - should be in the Top-2.
Very nice video look like 👍❤️
Nice travel
Thanks friend!
You should look at Toruń, Poland.
Wow, just looked it up! Sounds like I need a trip to Poland!
@@RyanShirley i had a pleasure to host few guests from South America and Asia. They travelled across Poland from Gdańsk, Toruń, capital city called Warszawa and Kraków. Let me know if you would like visit Poland.
Nice top ten! Perhaps one city per country could have been chosen, instead of three cities from France. It would have been fairer to also including cities from Spain and Germany. The images were stunning!
Check also Provins, Langres, Laon, Vitré and Fougères in France. Not forgetting my favourites, quite famous,
Mont-Saint-Michel and Rocamadour !
Wow
Beautiful right :)
Tnx for sharing nice places with us..

Would be a great addition to my favorite...
Nice vid, but there is a small mistake. The ship we saw in Tallinn, is not Estonian but Dutch. It’s also from another time period. The ship is called Batavia and the original was build in 1628. It means that is not medieval, but from the Golden age.
Beautiful
Thanks so much Lex!

In Rovigno you feel like in Italy because the city, as you said, belonged to Venetians and first to Romans for 2000 years. Before the end of WWII the town was populated by over 98% Italian speakers, and you can see that from Venetian architecture that is present everywhere. After the conflict Croatians became protagonist of the scams of private proprierties and houses of the Italian-Venetian population of Istria, forcing 350.000 people to leave what used to be and Italian land for 2000 years
