    I know that prisons serve multiple purposes and are there to rehabilitate as well as punish, however I think some lawmakers forget that they also exist to keep society safe from people who are too dangerous to be among the rest of us. The fact that so many dangerous people are released troubles me.

    What Eric Smith did to that toddler was not human. I can't fathom how a CHILD could torture, mutilate, murder, etc anyone, muchless a 4yo. I've always been interested in psychology and true crime, so I've read about so many brutal and heartbreaking cases, but this case HAUNTS me. This and the murder of 2yo James Bulger...
    Two 10 yo boys abducted him from a mall and did things to him that my mind can't even go to...Both of those boys that killed James were sent to juvenile detention and were released at 18 and given new identities. Robert Thompson hasn't reoffended since, but Jon Venables was sent back to prison in 2010 for possessing indecent images of children. He was released again in 2013, but was recalled to prison in 2017 and issued a 40-month sentence. In 2019 James Bulgers father went to court to try to have Venables lifelong anonymity overturned since he'd violated the terms of his condition by reoffending, but the court denied his request because they feared violence would likely occur due to vigilantes.
    I am all about reform- especially when kids are involved, but the horrendous, brutal and vile acts Eric Smith, Robert Thompson and Jon Venables inflicted on toddlers- 2 and 4 years old!- are unacceptable in any society. I don't care if the killers were 5yo, 10 yo, 15yo, 50 or 100 years old...those actions are not allowed in a civilized world. The fact that kids were responsible for those inhuman acts just makes it worse.
    Eric Smith, Robert Thompson and Jon Venables should never be released into society again. All of them now walk freely (and anonymously) among us now. .Parents, be smart. Be diligent. Do your research when entrusting your children with anyone....and anyone of any age 😓😠😥

      If you're interested in psychology, maybe you should go to school for it. Better yet try behavioral science. Seriously. I know because I am a student of behavioral science which includes psychology. Looking at these cases subjectively, I agree they are quite terrible; but Looking at them objectively, you will eventually learn that a child's cognition and subsequent antisocial behavior has causes. Trust me, as "evil" as they seem "spawns of the devil" there are usually organic causes for the cognitive disturbances they suffer. In many cases, these monsters are created, unfortunately.

    • @Quizack
      @Quizack 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Being progressive about prison reform costs money. What she did is just virtue signalling and doing it the cheap way. If you really wanted prison reform you’d spend millions of dollars in basic education, higher education, learning trades, drug and alcohol addiction treatments, helping prisoners getting certifications in things like forklifts, bobcats, backhoes etc. Prisons reform benefits society by allowing prisoners to stay out of trouble in prison, and get out qualified to contribute to society. Many countries already do this. Australian prisons (jails) do many of these things depending on the jail you’re at.

    Shooting a young lady in the back of the head because your thieving self didn’t want to get caught shouldn’t allow for early release.
    Then try to murder a young boy, who are these people letting him out.
    He thrived of brutal violence, spent 27 years in a cage of violence and they really chose to let him out.

      Kate brown cannot be reelected due to term limits. Thereby, what her constituents say no longer matters to her... On paper, many of the inmates she has released deserved another look for justice to be served. The problem is with substantiating the claims of rehabilitation, remorse, lack of further danger. I've seen many examples nationwide where no true investigation or attempt to verify these elements ever even took place. "I'm not in that gang anymore" said with a wink and a smile and a laugh.

When she said it didn't sound like his voice they said it was because their nose was broken in a fight, and they conned her out of $2000. She didn't think to call his wife or anything and after the fact, she realized what was going on. They called her again and tried to ask for money a second time.

I don't pretend to know why she didn't pursue it, but may I state one reason why these people get away with it is because our senior relatives never press charges. That's why these people try and keep trying to scam our older loved ones.

His brain wasn't fully developed and a child's mind can easily can be molded. Don't get me wrong, I think what he did is arguably unforgivable. But doesn't mean he isn't a changed person. With Eric Smith, I get that the younger you are, the less you understand the depth of bad things, and why its bad, and some people regret things they did in childhood as adults, because they simply didn't know better. but this was far beyond what goes under that category. you don't grow out of violent psychotic behavior, that's just how some people's brains are hardwired and they shouldn't be walking around free to potentially harm someone else. the fact it was a FOUR YEAR OLD child makes it so much worse. Once you kill someone, you're far more likely to target someone similar as your second victim. Not that anyone deserves to be murdered, but there's just something about children, especially toddlers that makes it so much more devastating. they also have no chance to defend themselves like an adult would, once they're snatched that's it. they need far more protecting, and people who hurt children should be punished more severely and keep them locked up permanently. he was old enough to have SOME grasp on how horrible what he was doing was and he still did it, and then continued to sodomize him to " see if he was dead " as if there's no other way to check??? ya. right. ok. let him out.

    I'd be terrified to live in America.
    Although I'm a law abiding, working Joiner etc...I'd be so worried about making 1 mistake and I'd be in jail for year's, where it seems you can be raped, beaten etc etc and nobody cares. It's seen as Fair game because you are a prisoner? Loss of liberty isn't sufficient for your punishment it seems??? Outrageous, inhumane society.

      Yea America is a terrible country to be honest. We still have it better than most parts of the world but we’re the worst developed country for sure and probably the most corrupt country too. Least progressive country that’s for sure

      Yes because long sentences deter crime, that’s why America has such a low crime rate right? The country with some of the harshest sentences. Why even focus on fixing the actual root of the problem, let’s just lock everybody up forever. Out of sight out of mind right?
