When Jack Nicholson gave his legendary speech people came from all over the studio to watch. No matter how many times he was asked to repeat it for a different shot angle he nailed it every time.

I totally agreed with you, this is the best. Excellent selection of cast. Kevin Pollak was on the top of his game also.
He does some great impersonations also.

Great cast do not always make great movies but this one did! FYI, A "CODE RED" is not hazing. It is an overt disciplinary action instigated by an officer or NCO and performed by members of victims own unit. It is beyond the military code of conduct and is not sanctioned by most commanders. It's used to intimidate a soldier or marine into complying with the wishes of the leader by fear. Those who perpetrate it are either seeking favor from the leader or fear his actions against them in extreme PT, running or denial of privileges.

In the 80's there was no such thing as code red. Blanket party is the correct term that everyone used.

I totally agree with Director Rob Reiner's decision to 'Cut the Sex Scene' from the Movie for (2) Reasons: 1. It would've 'Cheapened' the Movie & 2. Keep the Relationships Professional & don't cross over into the Personal!

Yes it was a very good movie, excellent even. Whether the storyline was true, false, modified or whatever is immaterial. The acting, at every level, was powerful. The audience was kept attached to the movies’ plot continuously. I was never lost in complexity. Tom Cruise’s imitation of Jack Nicholson brought a smile to my face and later Col. Jessup’s blurting out … “… damn right I did it.” Or some words to that effect, hit me like thunder in the wind and blew me back. Very powerful story.

Very much enjoyed the video, however, a “code red” isn’t hazing. Hazing is more a form of initiation for an organization like a fraternity or other organizations. As a former Marine, I will tell you that a code red is to get one’s attention in direct fashion. While it’s not the best of choices in most people’s minds and frowned upon, the reality, for Marines, is that you’re only as effective as your weakest link. Jack Nicholson’s line about “you need us on that line” was exactly correct. No lapses, no do-overs, no exceptions. People DO die when everyone doesn’t do their part. There is no reset button. Most people watch that movie and think that the good guys won. The reality is that both sides were correct based on a sliding scale of reality/perspective. There are things that civilians will rarely understand. Just know this…when you are sworn into military service you, for a period of time, are no longer part of our Constitutional Republic, but there to defend our Constitutional Republic. Sorry for the rant. Just thought there may be some folks out there who might read and understand that sometimes it’s not as easy as happy ending to a movie and heading home to bed. The safe beds that our military provides each and every night for all of us.

As simplistic and bravado as some may perceive your attempt to justify the actions portrayed by Jack Nicholson as a 'necessary evil' associated with military life, combat situations, or in this case, keeping a watchful eye on a potential enemy may be, it in no way excuses those actions.
I was in boot camp at MCRD, PI, SC, 3rd Btn., Plt. 354, Serial #198**85, under the leadership of Senior Drill Instructor Gysgt. Stahling a mere five years after drunk-ass E5 Staff Sergeant Matthew McKeon, for whatever reason his alcohol-controlled mind decided to march the platoon he was JUNIOR Drill Instructor of into the swamps where 5 of them were drowned.
PLEASE! Don't come at me with your lame BS. It's ALWAYS about control. And, as you are well aware...that process is accomplished by means of...FEAR!! That is instilled into US Marines the instant they arrive at PI! There is always a better solution to EVERY problem. But AHs desiring to be 'in control' would rather BE IN CONTROL! Nor will I apologize for my ranting...because I am telling the TRUTH!! Can you handle it?
Btw...I hope you try correcting me on McKeon's rank before you research!! I served with an E4 Sergeant at Camp Lejeune...and you never knew there was such a thing! John Wayne as Sgt Striker in the movie, "Sands of Iwo Jima" was an E4 Sgt.! When I first joined there still were left-over E3 Corporals as well! Look that up!!
I have TWO (2) sons, both former USMC and both combat Veterans. The oldest, who served 4 years in USMC, now a Staff Sergeant and Paratrooper in the US Army was awarded the Bronze Star for rescuing several civilians from a burning vehicle while under intense enemy fire. The youngest volunteered for Iraq and Afghanistan. He is 100% disabled resulting from an IED explosion he encountered. I am as proud of both as any father can be. And we share the same surname name as you!

Since when can we comment? Since we can comment, let me thiak you LandumC for your always interesting, engaging and entertaining content.
I loved this movie when I first saw it. The funny things is, over the many many times I've watched it since, I liked it less and less. Now I find it a cloying and irritating, movie filled with stereotypes and cliches and little else. I've since served in the military and of course lived a lot of life and am wiser (and more cynical) than I was as a young man. The naïveté and idealism of youth has faded, replaced with the practical realism necessary to live a good (and moral) life.
In retrospect I can see that this story provides a superficial Leftwing perspective and of course being older I can see the world thru both a left and right lens. Both have advantages and disadvantages but when something presents one side as paragon, it's shallow fare to me. Most of Sorkin's work is like this, sharp witty dialogue and engaging story but hopelessly biased, shallowly presenting all through a leftwing lens. Once you have the epiphany that the Overton Window has been forced too far left, you can't unsee it. Most of TV and movies today are full of this bias and likely this is why they are doing so poorly.
I'm sure many of you will disagree with me and that is fine. Sorry for rambling on but this movie is trigger for my memory of how I used to view the world to how I compare it now.
Let me say though, Demi Moore was stunningly beautiful young woman, few had such innocent effervescent angelic beauty.

Also "About Last Night" has Demi before all her plastic surgery. Back when the ratings system wasn't so draconian.
Speaking of the rating system. If you haven't seen "This movie not yet rated" its an eye opener.

Just started watching your videos. I mean no offense but I’m still a bit thrown at first because your voice sounds to me like you should be making a video about repairing a tractor rather than movies. But you have very astute observations and insights and I always learn new interesting facts from your videos. Thanks for all the time you spend producing your content!
