HOLY S#$T!!!! I never thought I'd see this car again! I'll give ya alittle background on it. Richard Slayton was my auto shop teacher from 87 to 90,at my high-school in Tampa Florida. He is the man that built this car. The car was originally named Flirtin' with disaster. The name was written on ribbons, like the "turbo" is on the doors. A big viking was painted on the hood with flirtin with disaster under the viking. The engine was a 400 small block Chevy, twin turbo like you said and it had nitrous as well. He drove it alot and my class got to work on it. He was a corvair nut too so that jives with the corvair rear suspension. He passed away in the early 2000's so I'm guessing the car was sold and who ever bought it wrecked it. I couldn't believe it when I saw turbo on the doors and the talk about the Olds toronado trans. Last time I saw it it was in great shape but it did have the rust on the roof starting to show.Mr Slayton was a great guy and taught me alot. I always loved this car. It's a one of a kind.

The turbine wheels are speaking my language! I would have never guessed a mid-engine Vega. This is going to be a crazy build... Can't wait!

I read about successfully mounting a Tornado drive train "behind" the rear seat (notch for a pulley) of a second generation Corvair coupe.
Seeing that I thought about a transverse front wheel drive V6 in a second generation Corvair convertible (plus other custom mods too long to list here).
Then saw a video of someone using a Fiero drive train but unfortunately it looked like (not sure) that the rear seat backrest was moved forward? ;-)

I love these kind of swaps. I want to explore some FWD to RWD conversions one of these days. I late model V6 or maybe even a supercharged one out of a FWD Buick would be amazing in a Corvair!

I wish I could find the Toronado engine swap article and reread the details.
Since the Fiero V6 is already designed for mid engine access (oil, plugs, pwr steering, etc...) it would be the best swap in my concept, except possibly for axle alignment?
