Welcome to Dicky's Garage! If you're like me and have racecar dreams on a bicycle budget then you are in the right place. This channel is all about taking things to the extreme and seeing what's possible. Early on we swapped some big block V8s into a few places they don't belong. I took the Big Block Miata to the track and was named "Burnout Champion"! Currently with Project Ethel who knows what's going to happen. I appreciate each and every one of you guys that support us and I ask that you guys never hesitate to reach out to me if you need something. We're all family here at Dicky's Garage!

F10 535i BMW Engine Noise Repair
มุมมอง 49K4 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I decide to take on the screeching/whining noise that started coming from our BMW engine. I took the cheap route and tried to use an aftermarket part to save some time and money. In reality, that's exactly what I didn't do. Round one the screech won but I'm not giving up that easily. Thanks for watching.

How to Fix Shifting Issues in a T-5 Manual Transmission
มุมมอง 32K5 ปีที่แล้ว
In this video I attempt to diagnose and repair the T-5 manual transmission in my wife's Monte Carlo SS. Something is causing the shifter to stick in and in-between gears. With some help from an expert I was able to find the problem and easily repair it. Once the shifting issue is fixed I also go over step-by-step instructions on how to modify and install a Ford shifter on a Chevy transmission. ...
Driving a Welded Diff on the Street. Is it Really that Bad?
มุมมอง 20K5 ปีที่แล้ว
Today I decided to try out a welded differential firsthand and see if it was the right direction for #ProjectEthel. Now before you guys run out and weld up your A to B, just know the car I welded up gets driven about twice a month. It's not a car I depend on and I would never attempt to daily drive a car with a welded diff. I would describe the welded up differential on the street as tolerable ...
Time to Take a Look at our Toronado Transmission.
มุมมอง 19K5 ปีที่แล้ว
With the new engine running, it's time to open up Ethel's transmission and see what we bought. I knew nothing about these transmissions prior to #ProjectEthel so this is definitely a learning experience for me. Hopefully I have a good one I can just toss in the car. Now if only I could decide what to do about the one tire of fire. Thanks for watching!
BMW 528i Regular Maintenance Turned Into a Major Repair
มุมมอง 3.3K5 ปีที่แล้ว
Guys we got lucky today. There's no other way to look at it. SVT Kevin brought his 2010 BMW 528i over to replace a leaky valve cover gasket and while we were poking around we discovered he was moments away from a major mechanical breakdown. Thankfully we were able to fix it up and get him back on the road. Thanks for watching! Timelapse music by MK Ultra - Tears in The Rain. th-cam.com/video/AS...
Exhaust Comparison: DYNOMAX Ultra Flow vs FLOMASTER Super 44
มุมมอง 23K5 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a comparison video of the DYNOMAX Ultra Flo SS and the FLOMASTER Super 44 Series mufflers. These two mufflers are on opposite ends of the spectrum as the Ultra Flo is a straight through design made for (in my opinion) performance oriented applications, the Super 44 has baffles similar to a conventional muffler and gives you some performance and still retains some daily driveability. The...

Flow masters sound decent but terrible for horse power! Dynomax way better all the way around. Also dumping the exhaust in front of the axel is a really bad idea!!
Thanks great information
You have any thoughts on the aluminium version?
What’s that part called?
I have a 2000 f150 Harley edition and seeing I have a Florida truck it’s mint and needs an engine so what should I do to ensure a good daily engine and transmission build ? Godzilla or coyote or 351 460 or should I get a new crate engine that was in it and super charge it? My budget is like 10k so trying too see what I can come up with for an idea should I just do a ls9 swap or too keep it having value and make it valuable for resale what would be your honest opionion?
Thank you for this. I payed too much money to get my entire brake system replaced on my '72 el camino. Everything was OK, except the rear drum brakes. The passenger side was binding up badly, so after pounding the drum off, ( no oval access plug on some models), I found the young inexperienced mechanic mixed up the brake shoes, putting 2 long shoes on one side, and 2 short shoes on the other side. The star adjuster on the passenger side was adjusted all the way in, but still too tight. Will use this vid to repair, thanks again!
I’m fucking crying 😭😂 slapped a band aid on it, and hit the drawing board again like a man 😂💯
Easy to do without the hub in the way.
God I would kill just for the MAF OBDII setup.
You forgot all the swearing
Amazing video!! Very helpful!!! May I suggest the spring you forgot at 7:37 and then it was in at 9:21 I made it to the end and I have extra parts. Now I gotta find out where the metal strips go. Thanks for the video though.
Got a 86 c10. Ive done drum brakes before but ty for the refreshing of the process man! I subscribed as well. 💪
This is awesome. I’m rebuilding my Corvair brakes (63 Monza), and this is the perfect tutorial for reassembly.
Insulation foam vs sheet rock panels which one is better?
It's great having access to this video. I recently bought a 1969 GMC Handi-bus. Its brakes are all drums. I'm an okay mechanic and understand how things work but its been a long time since I worked on old Chevys. Thanks for sharing your expertise. I feel more relaxed about taking on the brakes. Don't worry , I know how to bleed the system. Thanks man... Jon
It’s front wheel drive. It’s gonna have a hard time turning. You can end up breaking an axle.
Got a squeaky clutch pedal my man 🤣🤣. I know I know, wtf has that got to do with anything.
Excellent. Thanks for speaking to the equalizer bar. I can find no other video that addresses the installation.
Slow The hell down and show pieces to camera better
thank you, and yeah that is the same as a 65 Corvair. new sub and a thumbs UP!!! mike 65 140 Corsa
My uncle used a 72 Toronado engine and drive train for a motor home he built out of wrecked airstream trailer. It has been sitting a long time and I am trying to transport it in a flatbed but can’t get it out of park. Any ideas?
Hey I was curious how you did the motor mounts on that as I’m putting in a 429ci in my 99 f150
I'm so glad I watched this video the truck I just got they had big brake shoe in the front nowonder it wasn't working correctly
I have that gear box but I don't know how to replace inside clutches
what is the canister atop the th425 next to the dipstick?
well done brofessor. you forgot your retainer cups though. all retainer springs have a cup on one side a spring in the middle, and a retainer cup on the top with a pin through it. The last one you assembled had 2 girls but no cup.
Yeah speed thru the process so us amateurs can still be confused thanks for nothing
Excellent video.. Very well defined 👍
Wtf
Jesus... he said "weld" ..... 😂😂😂 Dude might as well be a 3 year old throwing play dough at the pipes.... you can always spot amateur welders about 10 miles away. Not only sight, but the sound of inexperience hacking is un-deniable. LOL😅😅
Yeah you're revving it in an echo chamber.... "oh its so loud" ... even the sawsall had you covering your ears. Damn guys hello?? Also, the ones you cut off, sounded better. So theres that. 🎉
I’d keep it differential. I wonder if anyone ever tried to put something like this is a Jeep XJ. Mid engine.
10 years 78 days sober until I saw step 1
Thanks for the detailed video! I'm restoring my wife's '64 Impala, starting with the rear brakes. It's been many years since I have worked on drum brakes, so this is a nice refresher course.
I did a 1998 STX step side with a trick out 514 with a C6 and 9” rear and the best thing was the truck , trans and rear end . The engine built a used parts engine than went to another engine builder that never turned the engine and so on but it was fun to drive several times . Nice sound out of the stock engine .
Thank you
I never click the LIKE button on these videos (my bad!!!), but I was very impressed with the detail of the video and the detail of the explanations. I just had to share this with you. Thank you so much. I think I can do this now. I hope you have the same video somewhere for the front brakes (foregoing the emergency brake part of the job).
looks real easy on the bench, but almost impossible on the car, especially the rear brakes as the big flange limits access. Also, the 'nail' wants to fall back and not let you attach the retainer. So you need to hold the back of the 'nail', then hold the spring and retainer, and counter all the spring forces and then try to attach it. Oh yea, the lower strut arm almost doesn't let you hold the 'nail ' you can barely get one end of a finger on it. Chevrolet engineering at it's best!
Best motor of the big blocks right there.
What about the hot water heater? I only have that with a flat roof 2-story
Hey how is this working after 5 years?
Lots of these older drum brakes are basically the same; thanks for this detailed video; a few finer points to learn here !! Even for an old school guy like me !!!!!!
Great video I want to do it to my 91 mustang
Understanding wife then complains how she'll strangle you... very understanding 😂
Your wife is a keeper
How did you get engine mounts for that.
Thay is a FAT cam in it
I was lost, now that I watched your step by step Im found. Your tricks work very well. I guess its all a PROCESS. Thank you.
So what motor mounts did u use , just happen to have a 97 f150 and a 97 motor home with a 460 and trans that’s runs and drive 😂
