  • I'm out of logs for the first time in four years! A little milling, my thoughts on why tree work has slowed, and why this economy means I'm out of logs as a small scale Sawyer/chainsaw miller

Hey I’m in the north Georgia area also I do alot of freehand chainsaw milling. The way I get my logs are Facebook marketplace where people have had trees fall on their property and they will let you have it for free or you can get a permit from the forestry service and go on the national forest and have all the downed trees (logs) you want

That’s awesome! North Georgia is gorgeous I camp up there quite a bit. I’ve looked at the firewood permit process before is it worth the time? Every now and then I do see an amazing tree down in the national forests up there and wonder if it’s possible to harvest it

@@urbanlumberjack I’ve harvested off national forest before you just have to get the permit. I think it was like 40 or 50 bucks it wasn’t bad. I believe it’s good for a year, but I can’t remember. As for as if it’s worth the time to do it depends on how you look at it and what your end goal is, as in if your doing it for a hobby like myself and trying to sell some on the side or if your trying to make a legitimate business out of it you might have to go about it a different way

Another cool vid, like the narrative throughout, hope you can get some logs sorted out. I second the other fellows suggestion on the State forest permits, i do that here my state forests are like my home away from home. Be great for you and your boy to get out bush, hunt for logs, camp out, teach him mapping and all sorts of bush skills. Keep up the good work, not just for us viewers sakes but your own as well. Finding a joy in life, plus a good way to be an example to the youngsters, is too precious a thing, to lose over such minor inconveniences. 👍💪🪓🪓🪓

I’m definitely going to check out a permit. Seems like a lot of fun too, and the national forests here are some of my favorite places. I love your videos out in the bush. I’d like to do some videos like that over here
