I literally just found your channel and I have listen to none of it, but I’m impressed that you have 2000 people subscribed and you only just started in 2024!
Thank you! I have been working hard on it. I have wanted to have a youtube channel for a long time and decided to give it a shot this year as I started growing my physical media collection.
I have Terminator 2 Skynet edition on blu-ray and interesting it's a better transfer then 4K but as you say some movies Have very little difference with 4K to blu-ray.
I Realized it depends on your Blu-ray 4K Player and you TV. I have a $600 4K SAMSUNG TV NOT A $2000+ HIGHER QUALITY TV so my QUALITY meter is limited but you can tell the difference between Blu-ray and 4k.I usually pick a scene that have watched and compered them and you can tell a difference in Billboards easily being read on 4k and less so on BLU-RAY. THE LAST JEDI IS AN EXAMPLE in my viewing the Blu-ray and 4k are the same.
Snow White 4k, Cinderella 4K, Prey 4K, Abyss 4K, and even Aliens 4K are all great Disney releases. You are correct for the most part, but recently, they seem to be trying a bit harder than before, especially now that streaming is starting to fail.
Hopefully since Disney has signed a deal with Sony to take over their physical media production, the quality of future Disney 4k Blu-ray releases will be better. Sony has a reputation of producing some of the best quality 4k Blu-ray releases in recent years.
Unfortunately, I have to say that Heat is not worth “upgrading” despite it being one of my favorite movies of all time. The 4k is WAY too dark, and is one of the rare cases where the Blu Ray outshines the 4K HDR release.
@@ysidropachecoiii47I think it’s better on OLED from what I hear. I didn’t have a big problem with it. Not the darkest movie I own. It’s not something I’ve watched repeatedly on physical media either though.
i agree with T2, Pirates, and Collateral. 300 however has a reference quality rumbling Atmos track. The price of admission alone is worth it just for that. Training day looks better on 4k. Invasion of the body snatchers has a much better 4j from Arrow Video UK, that is the one to get which is a huge upgrade over the bluray (the kino 4k is mediocre).
I’m a little disappointed that Wave 3 of Disney Plus shows are coming to 4K Blu-Ray instead of both standard Blu & 4K Blu. This is why standard Blu-Ray is more cheaper than 4K.
Kino Lorber’s 4K of Invasion of the Body Snatchers looks pretty good to me. And Arrow’s 4K Donnie Darko looks great. Did you get the replacement disc? The film is phenomenal. Sadly, Kelly has not been able to duplicate that initial success. The most disappointing 4K release I’ve seen is The Great Escape.
Disney wasn't going to release any of the marvels or star wars content. When they wanted to pump income into their theme parks, someone suddenly got the bright idea to release these shows. Quick Cash!
In most cases I am quite happy with the bluray releases of most films, certainly on the TV I have. I have some 4Ks and the Invasion Of the Body Snatchers was fine in 4K and was at a sale price, I doubt if I would have gone for the 4K if it hadn't been on sale, the bluray would have probably been fine as well. Some 4Ks look amazing but many are of little difference to the bluray beyond a little better resolution and colour but they are still way too overpriced
99% of the time 4ks are better than the blu ray, a certain 4k may not be the best for the format but it's the density and the depth that the blu rays simply cannot achieve , even if it's a minor uptick in resolutolution or maybe it's because it's not the night and day difference to how the blu ray looks I would never advise that the blu ray is the way to watch a film esp if you've had a 4k set up for a long while, alot of people are happy with watching blu rays which is fine and I can see why these videos are useful but unless you're comparing a blu ray played on a standard blu ray player vs a 4k with either HDR10 or Dolby Vision then it's going to be hard to compare an already very good looking blu ray disc on a 4k player that upscaled the picture quality vs the 4k, the difference here on why the 4k disc is going to be the strong favourite is due to the depth and the density as I mentioned which is created by the added HDR, basically the HDR is the game changer on alot of 4k discs
What movie I think it's not worth the upgrade is scott pilgrim vs the world I bought the 4K for $10 during Black Friday and I did not see no difference between the Blu-ray and 4K
I can add a bunch here at once: most black and white movies. I have a few B&W 4K titles but have stopped buying them. They are always disappointing. Virtually no difference over the Bluray. Also found footage films like Cloverfield have no upside due to filming techniques.
I agree. Many B&W on DVD are even more than acceptable to me. I started becoming skeptical when the Universal Monsters line hit 4k. I compared the Frankenstein 4K to the bluray and I could actually see a bit more detail on the bluray, such as the patterns on the clothes of the villagers. So, why spend $20-25 for a single film when the Legacy collections on BR are usually $20 or less than $20 in October. Currently, you can get the collection of all 8 classics for less than $30 on BR. So, what's the point in spending all that on 4K. Even the DVD collections are acceptable.
The Criterion 4K release of The Princess Bride(the purple "book") was the biggest waste of money in my collection. I had to do multiple double takes at the case and the disc itself to make sure I was watching the 4K disc because oh my god it should be criminal to classify that as a 4K release. I have blu rays that look 10x better. The only reason why I haven't tried selling it is because I kinda like the packaging.
I’d gotten the German disc way back. Sounds the same. My release had great packaging but it wasn’t amazing. I’ve never seen a blu ray of it. Only dvd back in the day. I did appreciate the colors/contrast and some details more the second view of the 4k
The problem with 4k vs Blu is you could’ve continued the video for another 100 titles. The jump from Laserdisc to dvd was minimal, but the jump to Blu Ray was jarring! The jump to 4k is minimal in most cases. Upgrading the old Blu of JFK to 4K was definitely worth the wait. Same with Reservoir Dogs. Goodfellas 4K should’ve made your list if you own it. Huge disappointment. So was Heat from Michael Mann. True Romance was fantastic in 4K, that Blu sucked for whatever reason. I’m watching on a 55” OLED with Panasonic 4K player
😒... Can't believe that you didn't put World War Z on that list. It is an actual DOWNGRADE from the Blu-ray, EXCEPT in resolution. Soundtrack is better on the Blu-ray and has better special features.
If you blow up a movie on a projector even a DVD can look good. I don't even bother with 4k unless a Blu-ray comes with it. The price is often to high they are only now starting to come down.
I'll never understand how someone can say that a heavily, massively grainy movie looks awesome. I'll never understand why someone would prefer a movie to look incredibly grainy. Yes I know all about the hows, whys and wherefores of film grain. Most of the time it's not a problem when it's not so overpoweringly obvious. Even when you make it clear that not liking excessive grain is an personal, aesthetic choice, the grain worshippers and puritans will tell you some variation of 'you don't understand film' or 'you're liking films wrong'... Hilarious as it is irritating I find the MCU 4ks to be ok, sometimes the HDR does seem to make a difference, but also a lot of them I never had the blu-ray for comparison. What does annoy me is, as you said, they don't bring out the Imax versions which would be awesome...but Disney only seems interested in ruining just about everything it's involved in these days...
Glad you agree! Some people are very passionate about their grain. Maybe one of my next videos should be sharing the 4K releases with the most grain haha.
The reason that standard blu-rays look brighter .. is because the images have been brightened and oversaturated from the original transfer. To make them look more appealing for the average Joe who wants to watch it at home who doesn't know anything about film and color grading.
Tell the world that you have an absolute shiiite of a home theater system without actually saying so. 😂🤣... With 4 Times the resolution of standard Blu-ray, HDR, DolbyVision and ATMOS, I will take the 4k 99 times out of a 100. You go ahead and watch Dune Pt. 2 on Blu-ray... I will be watching it in 4k... 😂
@@bumpersmoviesdepends on HOW modern. Most things shot now shoot well above 4k and mastering in 4k. For like ten years there seems like most digital stuff was being mastered in 2k. None of this says anything about color and contrast which to me is just as big if not bigger than resolution

300 with the grain looks good, that is Zack Snyder and how he does it, atmos is great. I think invasion of the bodies snatchers looks good.
Thanks for sharing. I think grain comes down to preference.
Training Day looks pretty good, I had the blu-ray before and I notice a difference.
Thats good! I just didn’t notice enough of a difference for the upgrade to be worth the price in my opinion. It definitely isn’t bad though.
Training day looks fantastic on 4k. Not sure why you say it looks like a Blu-ray
I think it’s not bad, I just didn’t see a drastic difference to where I thought the cost of the upgrade was worth it.
While I agree with most of your list I have to disagree on Training Day and the 70s version of Body Snatchers. Both titles look phenomenal.
Fair enough I just didn’t notice enough of a difference to justify the price in my opinion.
I have Terminator 2 Skynet edition on blu-ray and interesting it's a better transfer then 4K but as you say some movies

Yes unfortunately
I would add the revenant to this as well only because the blu ray already looks so good and the upgrade is minimal from what I’ve seen
